Would be a cool to keep a track of completed encounters in the Campaign details :)
What details would you need/want to keep track of?
I can see some value in maintaining the description and rewards. The contents could be used to build onto future encounters for consistency and/or building end rewards.

You can edit and then restart an encounter if you wanted to use it as the basis for a future encounter.

Establish boundaries. And if anyone crosses them, speak up. If they don’t listen, there’s always cloudkill …
I too would like to see a way to end an encounter. For now I will do what Farling suggested. I also do not want to delete my encounters I reuse them I also prebuild them so I do not have that much to do on the fly.
only new to this tool, but an 'End encounter' which closes the encounter and brings you back out would be a more intuitive user journey, yes it doesn't do much but in terms of user journey it would be sensible as is it is is a head scratch before you go and just navigate other means.
Ideally for me end encounter would also reset the encounter (rather than having to use the edit -> save method) so that it can be used again (pre-built sets)
This is an old question, but was looking for an answer myself, so thought I'd post of the next searcher. There is a way to end an encounter, but it isn't obvious. From "My Encounters", click the 3 dot menu to the right and click restart, then click back to "My Encounters".
Once I put encounters into the system, I want to save the encounters so I can reuse them should I take another group through the same campaign, etc. Deleting the encounter after a fight would mean re-entering all that. This would also save me from having to duplicate the encounter.

This. You can "reset" your encounters and keep them.
I would like to select the active players in the campaign during in an encounter and automatically assign XP at the completion of the encounters. leaving the inactive players out of the initiative and xp.
A wave function for the enemies so i can select reserve groups for when the players think they're safe . wave 1 is defeated then wave 2 attacks with frssh initive you see.
What's the easiest way to add a new mob to the current combat tracker after the combat has already started? Essentially, I add a new wave of creatures to the current combat to put more pressure on the players.

You have your encounter setup; your party engages their foe and defeats them returning the area farmers to safety and rescuing their only milk cow.
How do you end the encounter in D&D Beyond?
Does it just stay there with the dead (at 0) monsters with the only option to click on resume?

You delete the encounter from My Encounters. There's no 'end encounter' button because all it would do would be delete the encounter.

A tally of all the Kobolds defeated ;)
experiance for those using experienced based progression - would also be an handy metric to gauge rate of level ups, for those using story level up
Surely experience is something tracked by the players after it is awarded? Unless I'm missing something?
This seems like a very niche form of bookkeeping that would vary a lot from DM to DM and would be best served through their own records?
Fair point.
I just changed the name of the encounter to include "- DONE" at the end of the name.

A way to download and save as a simple text file.

I just ended up selecting all text and copying and pasting into a text file.
