I think this is ultimately a huge mistake on their end; some players may prefer the original versions of these monsters and even races that are offered in those books (speaking of, this will apparently also make the player race options only in those two books (including the Tiefling subraces in ToF) impossible to purchase once this drops) and of course the lore pieces that are exclusive to those books will also no longer be available for those that may care about that. I really don't understand the logic or reasoning behind this, as they're effectively throwing money away.
Regardless, with this now being confirmed information, it's pretty clear at this point that WotC has absolutely no interest in continuing to support the "old" way of playing 5e. For those who haven't already, we're now going to have to decide whether we choose to bite the bullet and adapt, whether we like the changes being laid out or not; or if we're just going to largely ignore any new content being put out from here on out and just continue to play 5e the "old" way and making that very apparent to our players. If you want these two books, better get them ASAP while you can before it's too late. I know I'll be observing, but I don't see myself buying that much new content anymore if this is the direction they're going; I have more then enough content to get by at this point.

This happens every time they update the game. They haven't really supported prior editions of D&D so far, why would they start now?

Well I guess it's a good thing I own those books already here and at home with dead tree versions, as I do most of my book purchases here at DDB due to cost of real books up here in Canada. Now I just need a dead tree of the new book, since it is full of options for player's.

Because this isn't a new edition? Even the upcoming "whatever" in 2024 isn't necessarily a new edition, but this isn't even that.
That said, this doomsaying is silly imo. The old rules aren't without their own flaws. And Beyond, however popular it may be, isn't the only way, or even the best way, to play D&D. Deciding not to rely on it for everything shouldn't be some monumental event for anyone. Just use what's useful for you. It's not that serious.
The specific rules updates they're pushing aren't really for me, and I'm not buying them. I'm still interested in modules and monsters though.

Sure it isn't. They may or may not call it 5.5 or what ever, but there is a very clear change in the design of the game post Tasha's and it is a design that they are leaning into. IF there wasn't a change, we would not be having this conversation.
Just because they haven't renamed it, doesn't mean that it is the same rule set. And the best part is, it is backwards compatible.
Wondering if Volo's and MToF's will find their way onto DMsGuild at some point in the near future ... or maybe the lore sections will be bundled into a new companion book of "lost lore", sort of like how the DMsGuild PDF Domains of Delight provided FeyWild support to WBtW.
Pretty to think so at least.

Yeah, I really liked the blood war lore in Mordenkainens.
It's sad that all the lore that I spend my time reading will be completely irrelevant soon.

It won’t be irrelevant, just less accessible by others.

I'm going to say that my biggest concern is if DDB doesn't offer old content access and under wizards starts pushing only new content access to force following the changes like Wizards does in MTG (Which I could see happening after the release they say something like "You can read it but not use anything in character creation/stat blocks/etc") Alot of people will be done with DDB.

They said they will not be disallowing the older content in the builder to people who already have it, just changing the names.
"Do you play Standard D&D, or one of the Eternal formats?"
"I play Commander D&D".
Ah yes, the format where your character can never permanently die... Where one player is usually accumulating as many magic swords as possible... Where poison damage is seen once every hundred years... Where counterspell is the most hated thing you can do to a player...
Yes, I think a lot of us are playing that format. ;P

But whats the point of success if their is no chance of failure?

Color me surprised. I really didn't think they'd take the old products out of circulation.
Realy?!? Are you new? I called that the minute I heard M3 announced.

Now that D&D Beyond is publicizing this information, can the March 24th dev update be brought out of the memory hole?
