Yeah, it's pretty rare in any area for discounts to stack; pretty much all of them have a "cannot be combined with other offers" included in the fine print. And yet people still act outraged when products continue this trend. I'm not going to pretend corporate intentions are white as the driven gravel, but this kind of arch commentary at every minor inconvenience in the pricing on a disposable income product frankly comes off more like entitlement than anything else.

Aye. And between 50% off everything or the bundle discount, the 50% is better.
I don't agree with some of their recent decisions but this one I do understand. This isn't even a case of greed - both discounts are decent and stacking them would just not be financially feasible, they opted to have people get the better of the two. The point of big sales is to temporarily reduce your profit margin to increase interest and purchases with the aim to recover the lost profit and make extra. This extra profit will be a buffer to mitigate some sale drops or hiccups that may arise from the new releases coming round the corner or upcoming big changes (which the core 2024 books will likely be). It's a pretty normal tactic.
While they could have been clearer about it to avoid the confusion, it must be stated the message in the Marketplace FAQ was there before the sale started. That being said, good web design would be to make it more prominent to reduce surprise and the negative knee-jerk feedback such surprise inevitably causes. Nevertheless, this lack of discount stacking is understandable to me.

Well, looking at what got the biggest discounts, part of this is "move as many units of the 2014 Core 3 as we can before they go off the market" as well.
As it has been clarified that bundle discounts and sales discounts have historically not stacked and that the current behaviour is not a function of the new marketplace, I will be closing this thread (and renaming it) to avoid any misinformation spreading.
Edit 2: Re-opening this thread as it's ambiguous if the current discount stacking behaviour is indeed a function of the new marketplace or not. Original title has been reverted.
Edit the Third: I've passed this up the line and Community Manager LaTia is looking into this for clarification on expected behaviour.
[REDACTED] the bundle discount DID in fact stack with sales. We all have purchase histories that verify this as well as official posts by D&D staff that confirm this. There is no ambiguity here, the new marketplace reneges on an offer that the previous one established.
Found this, and I have receipts also showing it has worked for me since early 2019 as well.
From the linked article the last 2 sentences in this section clearly state this was the way it was intended to work in Feb of 2022 and it is how it work for my purchases until the change :
"Are the bundles a good deal?
You bet they are! Our most inexpensive bundle, the Player Bundle, typically offers you a 20% discount versus buying each book individually. Similarly, the Sourcebook and Adventure Bundles normally net you 10% off versus purchasing individual books. Our largest bundle, the Legendary Bundle, typically lets you get in on all the action for 15% off versus individually buying books! But during this sale, you'll see even greater savings!
You also get discounts on books that are added to the bundles in the future. The Sourcebook and Adventure Bundles give you 10% off future books and the Legendary Bundle gets you 15% off. Pro tip: you can even stack these discounts with our single book sales! Getting into bundles early and capitalizing on single book sales is a great way to maximize your savings on future book purchases."
The issue is the people who have already bought bundles - especially if they've bought them under the premise that it would stack with sales, since it was advertised as such.

Bundle discounts stacked with Promo Codes when the codes used to be offered. As for BD stacking with offered sale discounts, I wanna say if it did, it was only when the sale discount was only 10% off I think.
It's been some time that I have been away from here, but things have definitely changed. I still don't know what to think about all that is going on.

" Darkvision doesn’t work in Magical darkness, and if something is magical, Never Trust it acts the same way as a non-magical version of that same thing!”- Discotech Mage over a cup of joe.
Add me to the list of people livid that a la carte purchases amount discounts are no longer stackable with sale prices (which they were in the old system before a la carte was removed--I bought many full books during sales simply because of this).

The Bundle discounts definitely staked with sales that were up to 40% off (+potentially more), with the larger of the two discounts applied on first and then pre-purchase discount applied second. The Bundle discounts stacking with sales was confirmed in the official article made by the D&D Staff that kayakingpoodle pointed out:

There is no ambiguity here, the new marketplace reneges on an offer that the previous one established.

Operative word there being “offer”, not “agreement”. Unless and until an agreement is made setting additional terms, either party of a transaction is free to withdraw their offer. Yes, shockingly a for profit enterprise made a decision to maintain or increase profits, but this is not a nefarious case of double-dealing; it’s just the exercise of one of the basic principles of a free market.

Another hidden change in the new and suckier store.
While not shocked based on the direction wizbro is heading, but yet another reason to stop buying D&D products.
