The phb pretty much encourages you, if you have a weapon you want that isn't in the game, to simply pick the statted weapon that's close to what you actually want, and just describe it as looking like you want it to be. So, what have you reskinned regular weapons to be without doing any other home brews or stat changes?
I'll start with my example. I've got a halfling wizard character who is kind of a normal kindly guy who just keeps stumbling into adventure, so instead of carrying a proper weapon he just uses a cane, but it uses the stats of a quarterstaff.
When I recently restarted my old group, the player who habitually played halfling rogues looked through the books and immediately asked “Where are the tanglefoot bags?”
I paused briefly and then remembered the advice on reskinning. I flipped the PHB to the weapons section, pointed to the Net and said “Right there.”
Mine isn't anything fun or exciting but my half-elf ranger uses a kukri instead of a handaxe. It just made more since for someone spending a lot of time in forests to use since they are a lot more versatile a tool/weapon.
Not quite the same thing, but I use a Rapier with the damage type switched to slashing as a saber. I also use a Scimitar that can do either piercing or slashing as a broadsword.
My group is starting up again next month after a long hiatus, so I updated my feral Teifling ranger. I wanted him to carry a pair of khopesh, a sword that in real life originated in ancient Egypt. Google it for pictures, but basically it starts as a straight sword but then has a curved blade that protrudes out and hooks down at the bottom a bit. You can use that hook in the blade to grab and pull down the shields of opponents before lunging it forward to stab attack.
This weapon was included in 4th edition but not 5th, so I'm using the stats for scimitars. And yes, I'm aware that a dark-skinned non-human ranger with twin scimitars seems suspiciously derivative, but that was not by choice. My favored weapon is the longbow anyway.

I’m about to resin a Greatsword as a giant khopesh for a character in the campaign I DM!
I've reflavored shortswords as both a cutlass and a clawed glove. I've got an idea for an archaeologist character who uses a quarterstaff and dagger reflavored as a shovel and a trowel.
When I DM I allow any class that could learn the shortsword to also learn the scimitar. Is a Monk or a Rogue that does 1d6 slashing instead of 1d6 piercing gonna make any difference? To me that’s more of a flavor thing.
I also use a Longsword as a Katana in the campaigns I DM.
For one character I played I reskinned a Halberd to do bludgeoning damage and used it for a Ghost Rider style chain weapon. The character was a Paladin so Spiritual Weapon stood in for the crazy shenanigans GR can do with his chain too.
Makes sense to me. I think the one time I ran a game where someone specifically requested a cutlass for their pirate character I was like "yeah, slashing''.
It's not exactly reskinning, but I have a Warforged cleric who was a battle medic, and his shield is actually part of a reinforced medical stretcher. So he'd use it as a shield to run into battle, then turn it over and use it to carry wounded off the field. Essentially a tower shield but with the basic shield stats.

My duelist fights with a cloak and a rapier style and just used the shield rules for the cloak wrapped around one hand.
Canto alla vita
alla sua bellezza
ad ogni sua ferita
ogni sua carezza!
I sing to life and to its tragic beauty
To pain and to strife, but all that dances through me
The rise and the fall, I've lived through it all!

Normally I would too, but rogues can't get scimitars :(

The ranger in my game uses "scimitars" that are actually army sabres, you know, from when she was in the army.

That's awesome. I want to make a pizza chef character that used pizza platters as shields.
