You definitely can. A lot of people do. But, I would encourage you not to. My friends and I will alternate but we DM separate campaigns.
DMing the same campaign requires you to work together. A LOT. You pretty much have to be on the same page concept-wise, or it’s just cause for friction between you. Plus, would you alternate the PC as well? And, regardless of other circumstances the other players will know that character is basically cheating having foreknowledge of what’s to come. You can still play as if you didn’t know, but it still puts an odd pressure in the circumstance. If you want to alternate, I’d definitely suggest running separate campaigns.
Depends. If by co-DMing, you mean having two DMs for running the same session, having an "assistant" for tracking initiative, etc can be helpful.
For two DMs running the party through a campaign, also, it depends.
My group has a West-Marches style game going on, with a loosely defined town and surrounding area. We alternate running one-shots in it while whoever is running the main campaign needs a break.
When I say co-DMing, I mean, I have a friend/DM partner, working with me during the campaign and helping me with ideas, he/she wouldn't be a player in the campaign, only a DM. I only have a general idea for my campaign and don't really know what to do. So I was thinking that another DM helping me out would make it a better campaign.

Ah. I see. I honestly don’t like it. I do see that as a training situation and a good way to learn, but it doesn’t sound like you’re quite ready to take the reigns of your own home brewed campaign. If you want to DM and your friends want you to start doing so, I’d suggest starting with a published adventure book like Lost Mine of Phaldelver or Curse of Strahd. These books will help you LOT if you get stuck and all the creative aspects have basically been done for you.
Running off of these modules will help you further develop and polish the campaign you have in mind.
I've DMed published games before, and even one or two of my own homebrew games. But I see what you're saying. Perhaps I just need to think a bit more about it before starting. Because I think my world is pretty good, I just need to think of a campaign.
Anyways, thank you both for your quick answers and time. You guys helped me out a lot, I really appreciate it :).

Making 2 DMs work is really up to the teamwork of the DMs. In theory, it could be great. 1 DM can be preparing the next room/scene while the other is running the current one. The DMs could take turns playing different NPCs for different voices. In Combat prep, 1 DM can be getting the stats of the monsters ready, while the other takes initiative. I could go on.
But if the DMs don't plan and work together well, they will only get in each others way and make many things take longer and lose information/notes.
I think I asked my question wrong. I was trying to figure out if two people could work on creating the same campaign world, not necessarily run the same campaign.

Like a lore reference or living sourcebook. It could work. I guess it would be easier than 2 DMs, but might be boring for the lorekeeper if all they do is watch.
I'll have to think more about this before pursuing a course of action. Maybe just work on it myself. I just want my campaign to be really fun for the players, and I figured that if two people were working on it, then it would be better. But now that I see it from another's point of view, it doesn't really sound like it's going to work out.
Again, I would like to thank everyone for their time, as I know nobody likes dealing with a noob like me. lol. :)

I'm trying to find out if co-DMing is a good idea, or if it even works in a homebrew setting.
