So was this just thrown out? I know there have been some significant roadblocks, but its been 4 months without any aspect showing up (not even UA core class' made with the options made linking to the normal subclasses, so it becomes mega easy to archive later). I am just curious, it would be interesting to actually hear some details of the roadblocks, and some of the possible work around methods that have been looked at, and why they were turned down.
Its a real pain trying to create homebrew for these options, and having to remember what non optional features they replace, but at the same time, without being able to test the features, the UA (one that looks really fun) will likely die. Likewise, going back to pen and paper tracking kinda negates being all in on DDB for me and my players.
I didn't get to watch all of the dev update yet, but if Adam didn't talk about the Class Features Variants, it's probably because nobody submitted a question to ask about them?
He didn't list it in either Latest Updates nor Upcoming sections. From the time the UA was announced up until now, Variant Features was included every week.
If it doesn't show up by Monday, then get your pitchforks out. Remember, this sort of thing almost always goes live on Mondays. Wizards somehow, someway prefers it that way; DDB isn't allowed to actually release stuff like new subclasses until the Monday after they drop.
And by pitchforks I mean ask questions but otherwise just wait longer. They did have to work on Wildemount as well, and now this new awful Theros thing. Poor bastards can't keep up with all the normal work they've got, let alone bomb drops like Alternate Class Features.
Mondays are the day you bring things to live simply so that if things go sideways there's a maximum amount of time in the workweek for the Devs to fix/rollback the update.
I know, right? Between the Encounter Beta, the Tracker Alpha, the app, the dice roller 🙄, and the inundation from WotC they’re as swamped as Prince Humperdink. I hope they get a good bonus this year.
PS. If the CVFs don’t come out soon I’mma but stock in pitchforks.

"I might be bluffing, pig! But then again, I might not. Drop your sword!" Wait, what was the topic again? Ah yes, Tridents, err pitchforks...UA...
Would like to point out that the class variant features was never a task on the roadmap. They've only added two UA talks to the trello board; UA Astral Soul and Wild Self integration, and UA Artificer Integration. You can see these in the archived cards section; you can't delete cards from Trello, only archive them, unless they're a template.
So no, the Class Feature Variants task hasn't been removed from the trello board because it wasn't ever added to the board, something you can verify for yourselves.

I don't think they were specifically talking about the Trello board, it was something they said they were working on in the developer update streams and it had suddenly vanished after being near the top of the list of "Currently In Progress".
It is reasonable in saying all that can really be said when you are coding and running into issues with it is "we are working on it, we are hitting snags and we are doing what we can to make sure this works properly" but its just a bit disheartening to hear the same line over and over then for it to just vanish.
They've been saying "Soon", and "about three more weeks" since April. At this point we all just kinda roll our eyes, say "sure whatever Adam", and carry on waiting. If Wizards releases a book wirh CFVs in it, *then* they'll finish. Until then, ah well.
I'm a little concerned that there is no Tasha preorder yet available. Could it be that the team is not able to adapt the system in time to account for many of the new rules?

I also want to know what happened. I tuned in to look for updates on the variant features. Thank you!

I submitted a question about it during the dev update and it got passed over, hence why I came here and asked.
Probably means it's close to being ready... but I am an optimist!

How is DDB implementing this UA got anything to do with whether or not the UA lives or dies?

They mentioned “very soon” in the dev update, so hopefully that is truly sooner than later.

Could these be part of Tasha's perhaps? Anyone with a hint or inside information that I have not yet been able to find myself?
