We act within the law. Nobody deals with the commercial distribution of WotC materials.
It's not just the sale of it that can get you in trouble with the law. If you were not commissioned to translate it, you can only do so on a private level. Meaning only you should be the one seeing it. If you distribute it, you are still doing something against the law. It's the same as file sharing. One person buying it and then sharing it with as many others as possible is illegal.
If you want a basic idea of copyright law, read this link. You can exchange PDFs or games for the music and movies. Since it is copyrighted material, it is governed by the same laws.
Here is another link that outlines the actual laws governing translations and their distribution. Since Wizards of the Coast is American, America is in bilateral agreements with other countries, and the websites we are on are based in the US, you will likely be following American laws.
There has been no confirmation of DDB localization at this time. WotC did recently announce they were going to partner with businesses to localize their published materials though, so it might actually happen in the future!

I've worked on technical translation projects in the past and they take a LOT of time, as it's not just a case of interpreting and translating the text, but the people working on it need to understand the rules, so that they can write them up in the new language and not lose the correct meaning of those rules. This takes a lot of time.

I was just curious about the D&D Beyond future steps, since i think it's a great tool and since we should have the D&D Next in italian, my native language, this winter (or at least some of the manuals, afaik) i was wondering if there was the possibility to have also this awesome tool in the same language. I understand that for most users language has never been a concern, and i don't have any problem with written english, but having a cool tool such as D&D Beyond in english and the core rulebook in italian could cause some probelms to some players. That's why i was asking and proposing to localize this project in the same languages as D&D Next is being translated as we "speak" :)
So, if I bought any of the digital content in english and a localized version of said content is made available (let's say, Player's Handbook in spanish), would I have access to the localized version, or would I have to buy the translated version as well?
I'm hoping we get an official answer. I don't have any problem buying the english version of the manuals, but my players don't have any use for them if it's not in spanish, so I'd like to know before I pay for anything...
Title says it all. I love D&D Beyond and what it offers, but I cam currently in the process of buying printed localized products for my favorite hobby (French PHB, MM, etc.). If someone could confirm if there will be localization or not, I might rather wait and buy it on D&D Beyond instead !
Hi everyone i would like to know if the dev team have plan about offering different language option for DDB
would be nice to develop other language community forum like french/spanish/german etc... they may have very good idea too
having DDB option for changing language of the tools would be nice too
there is also some content available in other language and more to come i guess wouldnt cost more to get those added here
that will bring here more people to DDB people from around the world that doesnt even know DDB exist and its potential buyers for content $$$$
for exemple i'm french canadian and my group of 4 players are very bad in english if the tool would have option to switch in french that would be much better for them + basic rules and free stuff already translate in french so having access to that in french would also be nice
player handbook and monster are translated too and DM coming out soon i think
right now i bough all the books except adventures but i always have to translate and tell them what feats skill etc.. does. If you guys had that option to switch content to other available language contet that would be amazing and they would probably buy some digital books too $$$$
I wish more people ask for this but i guess most people here are english people so they dont see the potential of growing DDB even bigger with that multilanguage option

Having the game/app in Spanish would be the final push to get my party on board
A possibility to switch to German would also be very welcome for me and my friends.

The official answer is this: Localization of the books is happening for many different languages according to a past article by WotC.
Once that's done, I can't imagine why Staff wouldn't implement that option for the supported languages.

Since phb and mm are already available in german and the dmg will be available soon, I just hope they won't wait until everything is translated.
