In the drow led region of Wildemount known as Xhorhas, lies a city named Jigow. Originally an amalgamation of villages and town resting along the Ifolon River, it is known for providing fish for the Kryn Dynasty along with its culture of competition. Whether it be a challenge of wit, brawn, charm, or any other skill matters not. Nowhere better is this spirit of rivalry seen better than in the city's annual Festival of Merit. On the day of merriment, several official competitions are held. By nightfall, two teams are chosen to participate in one final challenge for the title of Champions of the Merit.
On this day, a group of adventurers is here as one of the many festivalgoers and participants of the competitions. What they do not know is what awaits them if they end up being one of the two teams. An ancient being long forgotten by the world is in need of assistance; heroes in the making who can save them and stop the spread of a mysterious corruption. Along the way they may find long lost knowledge of the world and the moon of ill omen Ruidus. Will this group of adventurers be the ones to do so, or will ruin come to the world of Exandria?
General Information Hello guys, gals, and nonbinary pals! It's time for a recruitment post. A couple of months back I had wanted to run a Wildemount campaign, but life got in the way of doing that. But things seem fine now, and been having the itch to run something. So this time, I would like to run Critical Role: Call of the Netherdeep! The adventure takes players from levels 3-15, hops between two continents, and has a rival group for the party to make friends or enemies of. I'd like this game to be open to everyone, whether or not they are familiar with the setting. New players are welcome, as long as they're willing to learn. I would like this to be a more roleplay heavy game, but there will be combat and plenty of opportunities to roll (virtual) dice. I will keep this open for about a week, and then once everyone is assembled and some things established, we'll begin to play! If you want to apply, post here or message me privately. Also private message me if you have any specific questions.
The adventure contains some underwater elements to it. Don't worry, you'll have ways to deal with underwater breathing if your character can't do it naturally. The adventure also contains themes surrounding: the Gods, ancient artifacts, The Calamity (war between the Prime Deities and Betrayer gods, which caused an end of an era and for the gods to no longer walk the lands, and caused the end of the magical Age of Arcanum), the strange nature of the red moon Ruidus, heroism, and some horror themes.
The region of Exandria you start the adventure is the in the Kryn Dynasty, who rules the wastes of Xhorhas on the continent of Wildemount. It is lead by the Bright Queen, with twelve noble families known as Dens. The major religion of the Dynasty follows the Luxon, a strange entity whose supposed artifacts allow the Dynasty to study the magic of dunamancy (a magic of space and time), and allow them to preform a ritual called the consecution, which allows those who undergo it to be reborn if they die within a beacon's range. The Wastes houses many monsterous races, primary of which drow. Goblinkin, orcs, tieflings, minotaurs, half-giants and half-ogres, dragonborn, and the rare human can often be found living in the region (though other races could potentially be in the area). The Dynasty was up until recently at war with the neighboring Dwindalian Empire, and the two powers have a stable enough truce.

We will be using Milestone for leveling, and as stated above, you will be starting at Level 3. You can add Tasha's optional class features, if you wish.Official Races are allowed, not picky if you want to use the pre or post Monsters of the Multiverse versions, but you can use Tasha's reassigning of stat points. Jigow is home to primarily goblinoids and orcs, with some other races mixed in. Xhorhas as a whole is ruled by Drow, and is home to the more 'monstrous races'. So if you're wanting to play something like a rock gnome, have a reason for why they might be in the Kryn Dynasty.
I would like to avoid blatantly evil characters, since we're all going to probably be new to playing with one another and it's not the easiest fit with this adventure. However, I am willing to have them if you can make a compelling argument. Please make your backstories at least a paragraph long, but don't feel limited to just one paragraph. Include a reason for your character to be in Jigow. Once everyone is chosen, we as a group will work together to explain why the party came together (whether it be they are an established adventuring group, just want to become the Champions of Merit, or something else entirely!). Will try to involve character backgrounds in the story if possible. Feel free to work with other players who apply as well. If you've read all of this, congrats, and please add the word Flower somewhere in the application. I have the template for an application below, though you can swap it all around if you feel like. You can add a link to your character sheet if you like, but won't be required for the application process.

Yaris had spent a lot of his adolescence being the weird Teifling who no one wanted anything to do with, he had once made a Flower wilt in his hands only to rejuvenate it at will. The other kids thought him cursed, being a Teifling often brought some form of discrimination and being the kid who could make something as beautiful as a Flower die didn't help his case, it didn't take him long to not care too much about that. He developed his abilities to bend magic to his will when he was young and that meant that he no longer craved to be accepted by the other kids who were more interested in being a-holes than helping him to figure out what to do with his abilities. With no family, he spent his young adult years on the streets and eventually fell into a group who showed him what magic really meant. With research and time spent on honing his abilities he could apply himself to whatever he wanted. They craved power and status among Exandria, Yaris wanted to learn more. He didn't want to use his abilities to lord over others, he just wanted to get out and see what the world had to offer.
So that is what he set out to do, he wanted to find stories to tell. Maybe he could make himself known as an adventurer like those whose stories he had listened intently to in his younger years. Maybe he could make a life by finding the untraveled parts of the world and leave his mark on the memories of common people everywhere. That was a form of power that didn't involve politics, maybe that is what Yaris needs more than anything else, to adventure for him and not for those that want to bend magic to force the will of others.
Yaris is a Teifling Sorcerer who wants nothing more than the thrill of adventure. After being inducted into the beginnings of what he felt was a cult, he left rather quickly to their annoyance and set off into the world of Exandria looking for a new group of likeminded folk whom he could travel the world with.

The song of blades played in the air that day for Kriv Myastan. His unit oversaw pushing through The Brokenveil Marsh, though he does not remember why. The song of clashing blades, though, he remembers fondly as they faced their enemy. Then darkness begins to creep in as the pain of the sword piercing his side takes over. A purple flame engulfs him as the desire for vengeance brew up inside of him, but vengeance against who. The face is blurring in front of him as he tries to make it out and then a blinding light and the sounds of a child crying…the sounds of him crying. A boy was born in Talonstadt at the base of the Ashkeeper mountains with a purple feather birthmark.

Couple questions.
1: What would the expected post-frequency be for players?
2: When would you be selecting applications by? (I've got an application in another thread where the DM is waiting until the 14th to choose. And right now I'm only looking to get involved in one more pbp. So I'm factoring that in on whether or not to make a formal application here because I don't want to be the guy saying "Hey I applied for your game, but sike.")
The ideas flowering in my mind right now would be either a water genasi druid that was raised by wolves. Or a kindly old grandpa rock gnome bard that's out to get the tale of a lifetime to bring back home to his family and make a little money for them. (So those are the basic ideas I'd be growing out a bit more.)

Ability Scores: Ability scores: 181616101512 Character Name: Valexi Race: Tiefling Class/Subclass: Rogue/Arcane Trickster Backstory: Valexi is a con-artist, of all things. Orphaned like many young tieflings, she was given up by her parents when they discovered the small nubs growing out of her head and the tail protruding from behind. She was adopted by Gastone the Great, a human who saw an opportunity to make money. First, as a small devil girl, she was used to gain sympathy. Gastone would hand out expensive flowers to help “feed him and his cursed child.” As she got older, Valexi was taught how to act like an unsuspecting bystander to assist Gastone with his tricks, often secretly carrying a marked card and feigning surprise to make the trick more believable to the crowds. Then, it was simple card tricks to con people out of their money and eventually selling fake prophecies by reading tarot cards.
Valexi approached Jigow. Three days ago, Gastone pulled a fast one on her. They argued after he had conned an honest, hard-working mother. Val was upset because he had told her that they never con from people who were worse off than them. Now, Gastone took all the money she had helped him con from others and ran off. Now she had little more than a dagger and the clothes on her back and a deck of cards that she used to tell fortunes to others. She could hear the jubilation and festivities in the town. Whatever festival was going, Val seemed sure that she could set up shop and convince inhabitants to part with their money so she can get a meal. “Surely, there is at least one fool here who will part from their money.”
1. Preferably at least once a day. Real life always comes first though. So if something comes up it's no big deal, just mention if you know you might have some difficulty posting for a few days. If it's something like in combat, the character will be controlled until the player gets back.
2. Next Monday I'll be closing applications for sure, so the 15th. There's a chance I might close it earlier if there's a ton of applications, but I understand if you want to wait on that game.

Ability Scores:Ability scores: 131312141111 Character Name: Hobson "Hob" Thornfoot Race: Goblin Class/Subclass: Bard 2/Warlock Archfey Patron Backstory: Hob began his life in a typical goblin tribe. He was lowest in the tribe's heirarchy, abused and forced to do the most undesireable labor day in and day out. One night, he decided to set off on his own, because anything was better than where he came from. Wandering through the wastes of Xorhas, he stumbled upon an unexpected visitor: a fairy. The fairy asked him if he would like to see the Feywilds, to which he promptly agreed. He entered a realm of exotic life, and beautiful Flowers. A realm where time was a bit of a weird soup. He quickly learned that fairies aren't as benevolent as they appear.
He would spend the next unknowable amount of time being a plaything for a group of fairies, forced to entertain an archfey by wearing silly costumes, playing music, and all manor of typically un-goblin activities. Oddly enough, he soon discovered he had a knack for it, and decided once again that he was better off on his own. He wandered the wilds for a long time before somehow managing to find his way back into Exandria. He's been traveling the wastes ever since, frequenting taverns and using his newfound skills to make coin. He can't help but look over his shoulder to check if the Archfey that granted him a portion of their power is coming to reclaim him. Besides that, life is hard in Xorhas as a bard. He's low on coin, frustrated, and at this point will take anything that might lead to some sort of recognition or payday. He also wants to become stronger so that if his Fey benefactors ever come to take him back, he'll be able to defend himself.
Hob is a well mannered, extremely sociable goblin who speaks with a posh accent. He's still wearing one of the more subdued sets of bards clothes given to him by the Archfey, complete with a beret adorned with a large peacock feather. His clothes, while once nice, are starting to fray a bit at the edges, and he has had to replace the knees of his pants and elbows of his jacket with patches.

Found by a family of darker skinned Elves, she was taken in and cared for as they travelled across the continents working for some unknown benefactor. When she was 15 they ran into a trap set by a ferocious set of orcs, in which she barely escaped with her life, running off into the wilds. There she stayed, learning from the land and sky, finding a unique appreciation for the heavens above her, and it was here that her druidic powers began to manifest. Something lately in the stars and dreams have shaken her, prompting her to leave her wild refuge and descend into civilization once more.

If you never heard of Barlo, that's fine; most folk haven't. He honestly thought he would die in that there mine... and he nearly did. One day, about a few year back he reckons, Curtis was down in the deep dark depths of the coal mine with his friend Isaac Calloway. They were looking for new coal veins to mine when there was a cave in that trapped both boys at the end of a tunnel. Curtis was fine, except for choking on the dust and debris that kicked up from the falling rock. He heard Isaac choking too, so the assumed he was fine. Curtis knew that it would take a while before anyone noticed they were missing and longer still for someone to find them. But, he kept his head and went through their training with Isaac on surviving a cave in. Curtis didn't know how long it had been since the cave in, but he could feel the air starting to get thin. It was at that time he started to silently pray to anyone and anything he could think too... and something heard him. At first, he thought it was the thin air and darkness playing tricks on him, but Curtis heard a voice call out to him from that darkness. The voice was a smooth as the darkness that surrounded him and Isaac, but also sent a chill down to your bones; and it wanted to make a deal. The power to save him and his friend's life in exchange for something... Curtis knew and could feel it in his bones that this... thing wasn't good, but he also knew him and Isaac weren't gonna make it if they didn't get help soon. So, Curtis made the deal. He felt the Thing's power swell and course through him and out of his hands blasting enough of the rock away for them to crawl through. There was the sound of rushing air as their little pocket opened up into the larger mine. Curtis grabbed Isaac's hand, it felt limp and weak in his, and pulled him along out of that mine shaft. It wasn't until Curtis got to the surface that he noticed how heavy Isaac was and that he didn't say a word all the way the way back; though Curtis had been talking Isaac's ear off. He looked to his friend and saw a hole punched all the way through Isaac's chest. Now, to make a long story short family, Curtis ended up being blamed for Isaac's death. Using the power that... Thing gave him; he fled from Barlo and out into the wilds. He now walks the land looking for answers. Answers to whatever this Thing he made a deal with is, and how to undo it.

Name: Izebel Kryn Race: Drow Class: Sorcerer (Divine Soul of the Luxon) Background: Noble (Den Kryn) Backstory: Izebel was born into the imperial Den of Kryn in capital city of Roshona of the Xhorhas Empire, a vast metropolis in almost perpetual night, alight with thousands of small green, sparkling arcane lanterns. Far removed from the Empress Leylas Kryn, the home of her branch of the den was situated in the Firmaments with it's broken spires of curved metal. There she had a sheltered upbringing with higher learning and an extensive diplomatic education. As she one night visited a chapel dedicated to the Luxon she had an epiphany of the Hollow dodecahedron, sending her on a holy quest to save her empire from a great mysterious threat. Most of the vision the First Radiance had imparted on her still unclear, Izebel swiftly convinced her elders to send her to the fishing town of Jigow where she would try to assemble a team of brave souls to compete in the Merit Festival. Her elders realized young Izebel was a rare flower indeed, being blessed with divine powers in this way by The Luxon. Travelling to Jigow the young sorceress is filled with excitement over her new purpose and over finally seeing the outside world and all the fascinating diverse people within it.

Ability Scores: 14151113177 Character Name: Ash Blackwolf Race: Dark Elf Class/Subclass: Fighter ( Echo Knight )
Backstory: Ash is the runt of the litter. His father is a ruler of his community and needed to remarry and his stepmother has been trying to get rid of him for a long time. He doesn't know what has happened to his mother and his only ally ( his younger brother ) has left to become a priest of Luxon.
Ash has felt the pressure of the political maneuvering of his stepmother and has decided to leave his father's side to search for his own glory and wealth. He hopes that if he makes a name for himself he will be able to be a counterweight against his stepmother.
She was born in a village near Bladegarden to a human mother and orc father as sole child, named after a Flower that blossoms during the night. Her father was recruited into the Righteous Brand, went on campaign and has been reported missing shortly after her second birthday. Shayatah was raised by her mother with an effort to stay away from the military and harness her intellect instead of her inherited physical prowess. Nevertheless, her half-orc nature made it hard for her to avoid the occasional clash in her youth and she quickly found her way to go through a fight. Coming of age, her mother's intentions for her didn't come to fruition and she decided to join a mercenary unit, partly for her curiosity to see the world that had been fostered by her mother. Driven by sadness and unbeknownst to Shayatah, her mother made a pact with a powerful entity, a Dao, to protect her daughter for the price that she would serve at the Ruler's home on the Elemental Plane of Earth. Shayatah simply assumed that the powerful gift her mother bestowed on her was a hidden power she had held herself.
After campaigning for months in the Dunrock Mountains and being harassed for being half orc, a shift in her company's hierarchy had her finally dismissed on account of her ancestry. Shayatah returned to her home town but no one knew what befell her mother, and without her Shayatah felt she had no one left there. So she left again ever wondering what her mother's fate had been and carrying the heavy burden of being responsible for it due to leaving her behind.
Knowing that her orcish blood will be better accepted in Xhorhas, she decided to join a mercenary group there. In Xhorhas the mercenaries worked for the Krynn dynasty mostly north of the Ifolon river, near and around Urzin. Often they went to re-supply in Jigow. This time, still hazy in her memories after that wild night in the tavern, she must have done something stupid as she's been told she's been released of her service without further explanation. Stranded in Jigow, she sits in the same tavern trying to sort out what just had happened.

He was taught to steal and way to the thief. He was a silent kid and was not keen in making friends within the circle, which made him became the target of hatred.
Years passed by, during one of his assignments to break into some noble house, he was captured by an inquisitor. Instead of sending Ricster to the authority, the inquisitor decided to offer him a chance to work for him. Ricster agreed without second-thought; since the life as a thief was never what he wanted. He gave out all the information that he knew about the thief guild. The inquisitive circle was able to use the information to raid the thief guild and crippled their operations. And Ricster was accepted into the circle. Right now, he is on a mission to investigate some matter in Kryn Dynasty. (Mission is to be determined with DM.)

I have some ideas that have aROSEn in my mind. Maybe a LILAC tinted dragonborn barbarian (not seen that one yet), or maybe a FLOWing watER genasi druid.
Meet Bob (Dead Bob). He is a reborn with only flashbacks of his previous life. And when I say flashbacks I mean FLASH (his eyes lights up red for a moment while he relives the experience). He joined the group after he woke up... well, woke up dead. He's not sure why or how but he's the type to make the best of any situation. He joined a group of other adventures who overlook his differences so he's happy. One quirk he has is that his expressions do not match his internal emotions. When he speaks he sounds happy go lucky but (see picture below) he looks evil and angry. He also really likes Flowers.

This is a signature. It was a simple signature. But it has been upgraded.

Character Name: Valexi
Race: Tiefling
Class/Subclass: Rogue/Arcane Trickster
Backstory: Valexi is a con-artist, of all things.

Character Name: Hobson "Hob" Thornfoot
Race: Goblin
Class/Subclass: Bard 2/Warlock Archfey Patron
Backstory: Hob began his life in a typical goblin tribe.

Character Name: Lorisinne
Race: Fire Genasi
Class/Subclass: Druid, Circle of Stars (will consider FLOWERing into another class later, depending on group make up and character story progression)
Backstory: Originally born into a wealthy home of a merchant family from the Marquesian Coast, Lori was put out at a very early age, when rumors of an illicit rendez-vous began circling around her parents, threatening to destroy the family's entire trade business.

Character Name: Curtis Blevins
Race: Human
Class/Subclass: Warlock (Great Old One)

Name: Izebel Kryn
Race: Drow
Class: Sorcerer (Divine Soul of the Luxon)
Background: Noble (Den Kryn)
Backstory: Izebel was born into the imperial Den of Kryn in capital city of Roshona of the Xhorhas Empire, a vast metropolis in almost perpetual night, alight with thousands of small green, sparkling arcane lanterns.

He doesn't know what has happened to his mother and his only ally ( his younger brother ) has left to become a priest of Luxon.

Character Name: Shayatah
Race: Half-Orc
Class/Subclass: 1 Warlock (Genie) - 2 Fighter (Going Champion)
Backstory:
