Jairus looks for any traps on the door Kethra is working on before she goes to work on it, as well as any other possible means to access it other than brute force, such as a concealed lock on the chains, etc.
If he finds traps he warns her, if he finds another less noisy means to access it he notifies her. If neither are present, he will offer to Help her to provide advantage is subsequent Athletics checks are needed to destroy the chains.
"Rubin has a good point. We should of investigated further to make sure this chain wasn't connected to some trap or even a torture device, and by pulling the chains we could be harming innocents or locking ourselves in somehow, possibly a cave-in." Tyde will look back at Kethra pulling on the chains, "But I guess done is done this time." Then Tyde will go back to looking through the narrow viewing slit to see what he can see.
"I did give it a once over for traps," Jairus says. "If it's part of a trap mechanism then it's one I missed. Don't mean I know what it actually is for, of course, but it's not a trap, least as far as I can tell."

The red-eyed girl responded coldly at first, "These chains will only trigger a mechanism close to this room. The Woe-bringers couldn't even warn the half-orc which direction to be ready for us. I doubt these chains would lead to some sort of complex torture device that leads to something deeper underground.
"Furthermore, chains can slip or warp if left in tension, and will rust if not oiled regularly. It would be a bad idea to rely on it to hold their entire complex together, the only thing stopping a cave-in with all of Red Larch just over their head. An oiled chain held in constant tension is at best a temporary fixture, not..."
She stops, her red eyes focus at Rubin, then to Mr. Tyde, then looks sideways with a hint of embarrassment. "...sorry. I could be wrong. I am grateful for your input. My master always said that seeking counsel is a sign of wisdom, and I am fortunate to have counsel such as yours. I appreciate it."

"Yes. And I'm grateful, Jairus. But while I'm glad to know the chains won't harm me, I think this chain activates something on the other side of this room, which we didn't explore.
"Maybe they deactivate traps. If we explore further east, I'd like to be able to cut through this room if we need to leave in a rush. Or maybe if the half-orc returns with a +1, these mechanisms can break them up," a slight hint of a smile creeps up the red-eyed girl's emotionless face, then turns to Rubin.
"Because my strength is fading, I'd like to know what these chains can do and fast. But if you want, I will just leave the other 9 chains be, Rubin."
(Which door did the half-orc flee through, by the way?)
(The half-orc fled through the western door, not the one you came through.)
Looking through the viewing slit, you see what appears to be a corridor with an iron cage in the middle. A chain hangs from the top of the cage, and threads up into the ceiling somewhere.

Now with a view through to the other room, Jairus examines the chains further to try to discern their function, if they are linked to mechanisms elsewhere in the structure, or something within the chamber they now have a view of.

“Seems like these chains are connected with the cages yonder,” Jairus tells the others. “If we keep messin’ with ‘em here. Best be careful, we might end up doin’ somethin’ to those cages we don’t mean to. Maybe we should see if we can get some way to get closer, or if we do need to hack through more chains to do that and there’s no other way in, we secure those chains, tie em off with rope braced on somethin’ else so even if we break them they don’t give much slack.”
"Whatever we're doing, we should do it swiftly. I'm fearful that that orc will give away our presence here" Davian looks around nervously. "I can scout ahead if you like. My animal forms have advantages outside of combat. I mean no one would think twice about a rat walking around down here."

“Can you go smaller than a rat? If you can get through that viewing slit and get a better picture of what’s in that room and the whole deal with the cages, we might know better if we ought to keep hackin’ away at chains that connect to them cages,” Jairus suggests.

(Layout wise, the corridor you’ve already seen from a distance, you just didn’t go down it. The only other place you haven’t fully explored is the east door in the previous room.)

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
“You wanna check out the east side door we passed back there?” Jairus asks the others. “If we’re being all thorough like.” He will head that way if the others do not dissent, searching for traps or secret passages as he goes.

Rubin will sigh and shrug. He will move over to look at the inscription as well.

Jairus's best guess is that the chains raise and lower the cages seen in the next corridor.

Rubin stands back and covers his new companions with his crossbow as they decide what to do with the chains.
(To be clear—the cage's bottom is formed by the floor. They appear to be made to trap people in the corridor, not to permanently imprison someone.)

OOC: For clarity, that Cage is over the corridor ahead, beyond the viewing panel we peered through, not the area we currently occupy?
((Do we know what was inscribed on the stone?))
Another medical problem. Indefinite hiatus. Sorry, all.
The inscription reads "Displease not the Delvers" in Common.
(Sorry, forgot someone asked that.)

"Can you raise that cage back up?" Rubin asks the others. "We can't really move down that passage if the cage is there..."
(There are just the two exits right? The path past the cage and the one we came up.)
