I roll skill checks when NPCs use skills. For PCs I always have the players roll their skills. If I'm making it random whether the players find out about something, then they're going to find out about it real quick one way or another.

Agreed. For one, rolling dice is fun, for two, the DM already has enough to keep track of. At some points, you just have to trust the players not to metagame.

Agreed. For one, rolling dice is fun, for two, the DM already has enough to keep track of.

As i DM i handle all NPCs and monsters ability checks whenever required.
