In my Eberron campaign the villainous Lady Illmarrow is experimenting on elves to recreate her dragonmark and regain her powers.
Ooohhh.... Good one.
I love Lady Illmarrow. (In my campaign, she caused the Mourning to save the world)
Maybe she also wants to restore her dragonmark to help everyone, to abolish the corporate dragonmarked houses, and give everyone magical "tattoos" so everyone is special.
“Because if everyone is special, no one is.”-Syndrome
Exactly what I was going for.
Except, hear me out, everyone is special but nobody is anymore special than anyone else. So isn’t that called “equality” in English?!? How is that villainous?
Exactly. Maybe it's not villainous. Maybe they really just want everyone to be equal, but have to use "questionable" experiments to do so. Or, maybe they just want to send the world to chaos by giving everyone power. It's the same as giving everyone in the world, no matter their age or mental health, a loaded bazooka with the safety off.
That’s why in the “if you could cast any spell besides wish...” forum I went with utility spells that would be useful IRL. If I could cast Cloudkill I would sometimes.
Equality is not supposed to mean everyone has the same abilities, it means everyone has the same legal rights. That your Int of 20 does not somehow grant you the right to tell the idiot with an int of 3 that he is not allowed to get married.

Tell the villain this. They're the ones with a twisted mind, not me.

My point was not that they all have “the same powers” and that’s equality. My point was that everyone is special, but nobody is any more or less special than anyone else. That’s why the genius can’t tell the idiot not to get married. Not because they have the same intelligence, but because being smarter/stronger/whatever doesn’t make someone any more special than anyone else. That’s equality. The same legal rights you mentioned isn’t in-and-of-itself equality, it’s a byproduct of recognizing equality.
