I have a need to put the entire party to sleep in order to further my plot, but the party includes a Warforged. Since they are immune to magical sleep, and don't need to eat or drink, my original plan is not going to work.
The plan is a three-part sleep potion, part in the food, part in the drink, and part in the candles which combined will place everyone in a deep slumber. I need a suggestion for dealing with the Warforged.
This is suppose to be a non-violent encounter, so ideally, no one will be hurt. In fact, in spite of not sleeping in a bed, they'll get a long rest out of the deal before (ideally) heading off to chase down the culprit.
Just be aware that Warforged also have advantage on checks against Poison, so you are going to need to basically ignore whatever the Warforged player rolls for the poison. If you even allow him to roll for it.

The DC could be really high though, it could easily infect your body, but once there, the body could easily fight back against it
Better for all forget about sleeping players and invent something new. If member of party is immune to sleep then they are. Dont make em sleep to something that is not possible.
If you're going to strong-arm the plot, just hand wave it: the Party beds down for the night, the person on watch loses consciousness. If you want to gaslight whoever is on watch into thinking it's not just the GM deciding events ahead of time, ask for one of their stats, roll a d20 behind the screen, pretend to look something up on a table, announce that they lose consciousness.
That way you don't need to think up a mechanism. It could have been gas, or a poison, or a spell, or .... or .... If the Players ask what it was later, just tell them "you don't know". Don't tell them that you don't know either :p
There's something odd about taking away the Players' control of the plot, and then wanting to be meticulous about the mechanics of doing it.

What would the villains do if they knew this? (Presumably it's some NPCs that are poisoning the players here?) Go to a different approach? Poison everyone else and then beat up the warforged mundanely?
RAW you can't put a warforged to sleep, but you can knock one unconscious. Drow poison is capable of mechanically knocking a foe unconscious, not putting them to sleep, so such effects are capable of existing in d&d. Additionally, certain poisons are applied on touch, not upon ingesting it or getting it into your bloodstream. Now, imagine you develop a poison capable of rendering a foe unconscious via absorption through the skin. All you have to do is aerosolize it and spray it at the PCs, and you've got them.
Also, it doesn't matter if warforged are artificial creatures or not, they can still be poisoned, as they possess organic components as well as inorganic components.

That’s good. Separate and kill. If your villain knows and sees someone survives they might gang on him.

Yeah, Warforged is suspect for Poison and Warforged have advantage to saves against poison.
Why don’t you just wait until the Warforged goes on it’s Sentry’s Rest and use an illusion to simulate that nothingness changed at all and then do whatever you need. That is, if you need to justify it to yourself. Otherwise just hand wave it like Vedexent suggested.
Good afternoon everyone;

Any ideas would be welcome.

Warforged can't be put to sleep, but they can be knocked unconscious. Drow poison, or some variant of it.

As stated above, some sort of poison, maybe make a custom poison that's venomous enough to knock someone out but not do any actual damage.
D&D is a game for nerds... so I guess I'm one :p

Trouble with this idea is how to get someone who doesn't eat, drink, or breath to be affected by it. This is my dilemma.

if they have chinks in their plating, it could be an airborn poison, and it enters the chinks and into the body

About Warforged, some minor short-circuit could provide sleep like effects.

If you have Warforged in party you cant put him to sleep. Period. You can make him short if you want to use DM power but no sleep.
I would suggest changing the adventure so putting the PCs to sleep is unnecessary. What is the reason you need them asleep anyway?

Two attempts at an impossible task doesn't make it any less impossible.

Impossible? DC10-15 with advantage is nothing than impossible.
Conmon poison DC is mostly DC 10.
If the DM really wants to force the issue they could simply set the DC to 37 and then it doesn’t matter.
