So, I'm working on a new setting, where I'm going to be adding in some psychics, different artifice-themed subclasses, and more. One of the things I'm working on is a kind of gambler theme for the group, and I'm not exactly sure what direction to take this in. I can see Rogue, Bard, Sorcerer and a few others, but personally leaning more towards rogue than any other, combined with some card and dice tricks as well as some luck manipulation.
Anyways, before I got into the nitty gritty and trying to come up with how I want to do this, I thought I'd just ask for a second opinion. What class(es) do you think are the best option for making a gambler type with? What direction would y'all take with it?
I'd say Bard personally, with Luck Manipulation being a theme. Maybe a Cleric of Luck/Fate Domain.
As for Gambler, it seems more a Background, rather than a subclass, I guess?
I think that would be more of a card shark than a gambler. So yeah, I agree. A background with insight and deception or playing card proficiency
Yeah, I'd think insight and deception for skills, proficiency with cards and dice. Maybe for the background feature, let the gambler cheat to gain advantage, but the mark does a perception v. deception check or something similar.
I remember a pretty interesting Rogue subclass Gambler on Reddit I saw a while ago. I believe it was by "layhnet". Not sure on the rules of linking off-site here, but it might be worth checking out.

I think slight of hand instead of deception.
A bard would be the class for a gambler. Some extra bonus or advantage granted from Bardic Inspiration. Perhaps adding your charisma modifier to Bardic Inspiration rolls.

Thank you, but not really looking at just a background;there are skills and abilities I would like to add that don't fit into just a background, or as a feat.
@MellieDM - I tried looking it up, but it appears the author removed their Google doc for it. Thanks for the suggestions.
@Stormknight - college of luck? Thank you for the suggestion.

I took a crack at a Gambler background. We'll see if it makes it out of moderation.

One of my favourite 3.5e characters was a Cleric of Tymora. :)

I know that background wasn't the focus, but my gambler background got published if anyone's interested.
I will certainly give it a look see.

For the enhanced luck, perhaps go for a point system like with the monks ki points. First thing that came to mind.
If you end up going with a spellcaster a wonderful bit of flavor would be to allow a gaming set to be used as a spellcasting focus.
