I'm playing a barbarian character, and for flavour I want to make a Greathammer weapon (I have permission from DM for stats). It would be 2d6 bludgeoning damage, with the heavy and two-handed properties. However I'm struggling to figure out how to make one and add it to my character without making a magic weapon.
FYI: As a Barbarian, Brutal Critical works best with d12 weapons because it adds a single die, not the total damage dice. (That’s part of why Barbarians get axes instead of swords as starting equipment.) You might want to consider asking about that as an alternative. A 2d6 weapon has a slightly higher guaranteed minimum damage (2+Str) than a 1d12 weapon (1+Str), and is overall slightly more consistent because single die rolls are swingy while dice pools tend to towards the mean (median? Whichever.), but is also statistically less likely to ro high because of that consistency. After all, a d12 has the exact same 1/12 (8.33%) chance of rolling any number from 1-12, but 2d6 tends to spike high at 7 almost 17% of the time, but will only roll 12 less than 3% of the time:
I'm currently only level two, so its gonna be a while before Brutal Critical matters to me. But thanks for the advice, I'll keep it in mind for when I do get there 👍

That already exists, d&d just calls it a maul.

If you happen to be a Half-Orc, the same is true for Savage Attacks too.
