I'm playing around with a sub-class attempt I haven't finished it yet, but it says it's too close to the Druid Circle of Spores sub-class. My attempt is a fighter with no magic to speak of.
Could someone give me advice on what I might be doing to make a non-magical subclass too similar to a magical one?
I don't think it's too much of a bad thing for some subclasses be similar to other subclasses or classes. The gameplay of the subclass will likely play out differently than its similar class/subclass, as the class features and character set-up would enable varied gamplay. WOTC clearly hasn't avoided it themselves, as some classes are explicitly designed to be mirrors of another (like Wild Magic Barbarian and Wild Magic Sorcerer). That said, we might be able to give more constructive feedback if you post what you've come up with so far (I know that can be anxiety-inducing though!)
In short though, I'd say don't sweat it. If you're copy-pasting Circle of Spore features onto a Fighter subclass template and calling it good, then that might be another issue. But if what you've come up with feels thematically similar, then that sounds totally fine to me. Heck, if it's mechanically similar (but not a copy-paste), then I'd say you're good. Depending on what you want to do with the final product (is it for a player in your own campaign? are you wanting to publish it on something like DMsGuild?) then that may change some things.
Honestly, I came up with the idea when a little drunk, and I'm not even sure if it will ever be turned into a public subclass because it is my first Subclass attempt, I can't remember if I've ever heard of Circle of Spores before, until it popped up as too close to my fighter build, but I might have come across it.
Am also confused because as a fighting subclass I want to add fighting moves, but only Spells seem to be available, how would I create a new fighting move if there's only spell creation?
It's a somewhat common issue caused by the main description being empty or too short. Make sure you hit the main Save button after entering a description.
If that clears it I recommend not publishing right away, take time to thoroughly playtest and edit the thing before you publish or you’ll end up making a bagillion copies and still grind your teeth over a typo or something. (Once it’s published it can’t be edited, it has to be overwritten.)

OK, thanks for letting me know, I'll look into it.
