So my PCs are going up against some BBEGs, and I've become fond of modifying the standard magic items in the game with homebrew variations. I want one of the BBEGs to be wearing a light armor that gives a base of AC14, so +2 over studded leather for example or +3 over regular leather (there're reasons for going this route vs just putting him in medium armor).
But when I try to modify a studded leather to have +2 more AC to bring it up to 14, it doesn't seem to work for me - the AC value stays at 12.
Anyone able to walk through how you'd go about this?
Former D&D Beyond Customer of six years: With the axing of piecemeal purchasing, lack of meaningful development, and toxic moderation the site isn't worth paying for anymore. I remain a free user only until my groups are done migrating from DDB, and if necessary D&D, after which I'm done. There are better systems owned by better companies out there.
I have unsubscribed from all topics and will not reply to messages. My homebrew is now 100% unsupported.
Yeah, that would be the simple solution to be sure, but knowing how to do it has some advantages beyond the flavor text.
I'm sorted now though - at least for the immediate armor I want to have on the BBEG and lootable. I may just go the slightly easier route down the road and adjust it accordingly around the AC

Start with a +1 version of leather armor and just increase the fixed value to 3 instead of 1.

There should already be a leather, +3 item, or studded leather, +2, if you prefer?
You can copy either of those and modify as you like if you want to change the description, name etc.
