My DM recently allowed me to create a homebrew weapon for my character. And so, seeing as how I made a subclass that focuses so much on Constitution, I wanted to create a sword that uses my character's CON modifier for attack hits/dmg instead of DEX/STR. Kinda like Finesse or Hex Warrior (of the Hexblade Warlock). Anyone have an idea on how to implement that in the DND Beyond Homebrew? I've tried many times, but can't seem to find the proper way.
Unfortunately it's not currently possible; we can only set custom ability scores for attacks that are added as an action, which are only currently available on classes, feats and races. So magic items are limited to whatever their base weapon uses (Strength of Dexterity) and the only way we can currently modify this is by adding/removing finesse for melee weapons.
However, players can override their hit/damage for a weapon, so you could just describe how it works and rely on them to adjust it themselves?
One thing I would question though is whether you should give a CON focused sub-class a weapon that enables it to ignore all other ability scores? Part of the challenge of building a character is usually having to juggle two, three or even four ability scores you want to get as high as possible, but if you can use CON for too much then you'll just dump everything into that one stat, maybe take points in some other things or just grab nothing but feats.
Former D&D Beyond Customer of six years: With the axing of piecemeal purchasing, lack of meaningful development, and toxic moderation the site isn't worth paying for anymore. I remain a free user only until my groups are done migrating from DDB, and if necessary D&D, after which I'm done. There are better systems owned by better companies out there.
I have unsubscribed from all topics and will not reply to messages. My homebrew is now 100% unsupported.
I'll give it some thought. At the moment, I plan on splitting between CON and WIS (for flavour) while picking up a few Feats along the way. It's definitely not perfect and the flaws will only be at their most visible when playing, but I appreciate the recommendations. I absolutely agree it could spiral into trouble. The more flaws that can be avoided the better. I'll talk with my DM about it to see if he can help me walk the line between optimizing and having fun!

Unfortunately that is not currently possible. Items & Equipment FAQ #10: (https://www.dndbeyond.com/forums/dungeons-dragons-discussion/homebrew-house-rules/131411-a-homebrewers-how-to-faq). You WIP just have to manually adjust the attack and damage modifiers for that weapon by customizing the it directly on the character sheet.

Thank you for the answer. Very appreciated.

You may use the modifier "magic item use constitution"
- bonus
- magic item use constitution
That would apply that Modifier to every magic weapon the character uses.
