Hello all, I am checking to see if anyone else has experienced this issue or if anyone knows a way around it.
I have been having an issue where while creating/editing home brew items the item will not properly sync all of its saved attributes and changes. Such as, modifiers and attached spells.
Example: I removed a spell from an item and saved it fully. I can get the weapon to update in the inventory but the spell is still attached.
I have been trying to edit this item to make the spells have the effect I want on the character sheet. What I would expect to happen is that when I save an item and refresh the character sheet, all things related to that item should update. The actual result is that not only does it take doing things like removing and re-adding the item to see any change at all, but not everything updates even after doing so. In this case, I can confirm that the item is being updated in some form or fashion, because its version number and descriptive text will change if edited. For what ever reason I can not seem to get the attached spell to update in a reliable way. I have found it very difficult to design special items when it takes so much work just to save, update, and test your items.
Any help or information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
It takes a while to update things after you change them. Just wait a while.

Thank you for the input. I had already seen you around and looked into some of your tips, but it really just seems like it takes the system so long that I have to make one change and walk away for up to a half an hour to be able to see if that change did what I want. Kinda sad.
You may be able to answer a related question, but I think the answer is it is not possible at the moment. The reason I am doing all this testing is because I am trying to get the Hit/DC number to change for a spell attached to said item. I can seem to modify pretty much anything else, but I cant get that number to change, and it wont even let me manually change it on the character sheet like most other actions. Any ideas? Thanks again.
You can set a fixed save DC when you attach a spell to an item, but you can’t set a fixed attack bonus:
And like it says in that FAQ I linked for you in my last post, if you remove the item from you character sheet after you edit it, then refresh the character sheet and add the item back again that can often force the system to speed up the update.
Yup, I thought that was the case. When you say no "fixed" attack bonus. Are there any other ways to modify that number in the way I am using it?
And like I said, I read through your FAQs before you even posted and your tips do not fix the issue I am experiencing. Does not matter if I toggle content options, remove the item and re-add it, save the spell, save the item, do any of these things at different stages of the process, forced cache refreshes, different browsers or devices, or any other a number of things I tried over probably 8 hours of messing with it over several days.
All of those things do indeed help to force the item or spell itself to update, as I stated in my previous post I can verify that its working because version numbers, text, and basic stats of the item will update as they should. The problem is that even after all of that, and being 100% sure that I am looking at the most up to date item, it WILL NOT update the attached spell. It doesn't matter if I delete the spell all together, change it, or replace it. The spell will just sit as whatever it was showing most recently.
Now, if I do all of that random stuff (That I honestly shouldn't have to do in the first place on a functioning platform) OR absolutely nothing special after saving, I will get the same result of the spell updating itself properly after 20-40 mins.
If you would like to reproduce, to see if it does the same thing on your end, simply create a magical weapon with an attached HB ranged damage spell and put it in a non spell caster's inventory. I was able to get it to behave exactly the same way with a number of items, only with the spell part not updating at the same rate as everything else.
I again appreciate your time and input.
EDIT: For anyone else possibly reading this in the future, my solution to the "Hit" number change issue was to remove the spells from the item and just create a custom spell actions on the player's character sheet completely unrelated to the item. It will take more maintenance on my side, but it works for now.

No, the attack modifier will always be PB + Spellcasting stat. Since a non Spellcaster has no Spellcasting stat, it’s always going to be just PB.

Strange, removing the item and refreshing the page usually clears the old version of the item from the cache. it’s very strange that isn’t speeding up the process. 🤷♂️

Ok, thank you. I will stop touching things and just see how long it takes to update. Appreciate you taking the time to answer.
