Hey guys! So Im making a new cleric subclass, and one of the abilities reads as follows:
"Also at 1st level, you can channel your deity's power to induce slumber in your enemies. You can cast the sleep spell as a 1st level spell without expending a spell slot. You may do so a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus per long rest
When you reach 7th level you cast it this way as a second level spell, at 11th level you cast it as a 3rd level spell, and at 15th level you cast it as a 4th level spell."
However, I am having trouble figuring out how to do the level scaling. I managed to add the spell, but when the level scaling occurs, it doesnt remove the first level spell, and just adds the second level spell. So at level 7 it is giving the subclass six uses, 3 first level and 3 second level uses. This is obviously way too many. Can anyone tell me how to go about fixing this so it works properly? Thanks in advance!
There is no convenient way to do that. What you can do is attach a series of Options to that feature, and set each one to represent and become available at those specific levels, but program the feature to only grant the player to select a single Option at the lowest level. Then it would be up to the player to manually switch to the higher level version of the Option at each of those levels. You can learn how to set up feature Options in the Homebrew Subclasses & Species FAQ Question #1. If you need any further assistance please ask either here or in that FAQ thread.
