I am new here but I have been trying to create items that are normal and not magical but I don't see how I can do that. I have pages upon pages of material of homebrew that I have created but I would like to translate that onto this website. Can I make run of the mill normal items?
Good question, I'm curious if this is an option I can't find the "how-to" on or if it's something that would or could be considered for future updates?
It’s not very useful for making magic items either sometimes.
But you came make stuff like these: Dwarven Hammer, Saber, etc. (The only reason that saber has a +1 is because we’re not supposed to publish non-magic items. In fact, I expect them to bounce that hammer back at me soon.)
No problemo. People have been requesting home brewed mundane items for a while. I suppose the more requests the better. Prevailing theory is that things should be better soonish. The Class Variant Features UA that came out a few months ago is forcing them to update the creation system. That’s why it’s taking a little bit for them to implement that one, usually new UAs are available within a week, usually a few days. Thing is, the homebrew generator that we have access to is basically the same system they use, only without admin access. So logic would dictate that when they upgrade their system, we’ll see it too. 🤞 You can still make almost whatever you like, mostly anyway. Sometimes it’s a pain in the neck, but mostly it’s not so bad once you start to get the hang of it.
What you’re trying to create might be easier than that. On the character sheet you can click/touch a piece of equipment and a slideout comes from the right. Touch/click “customize.” If, say, you wanted to take an item like a piece of armor or a weapon or something and give it a diferent name and say it weighs less or something you can do it there.
Wow... I honestly didn't know whether or not I was the only person that had this problem. Now I see that it is a universal problem. There's so much I want to create but other than making Word documents and just writing it down there is little for me to use on D&D Beyond. If they are at all interested in ways they can improve all they need to do is ask.

It’s not a “problem.” You can create it, whatever it is. The tools are there, it just takes jumping through a few hoops sometimes. And they have asked, there is an entire forum full of threads requesting feedback. If you want to tell them how they could improve their product for your user experience, it’s the exact same process you used to leave this post, only in the “feedback forum.”

@IamSpost - It's not super hard or anything, I just wanted to create an alternate description for Plate Mail, described as Field Plate or something. And it's not a major issue, just an option that would be nice for me. I wouldn't mind being able to create custom weapons either, however, there are plenty from various adventure's from 3rd and 3.5 I would love to redo in 5e that had custom weapons in them (Looking at "Age of Worms" especially (the Executioner's Axe, a combination Axe and Mace fitted with a long spike))
The issue I have is that the description of the base item remains on the magical item created.
That’s all totally doable with the homebrew generator. For the field plate for example there are two ways to do that:
1) Click “create magic item” when it asks what you want to base it on select Adamantine Plate. Change the name and the description to suit you, click SAVE. Scroll down, delete the “modifier” and hit SAVE again. Done and done
2) On the character sheet, touch/click the plate armor and when the slideout comes from the right hand side of the screen click/touch customize and then just change the name.

The only tool currently available to us is the homebrew magic item creator. You can make mundane items there though.

It doesn't feel very useful for making custom weapons or armor though. :(

I guess this qualifies as a D&D Beyond Feedback request more than anything then. Thanks @IamSposta!
