Now that Tasha's is out, will there be an option to creature our own class feature options as well? I've patterned my house rules in that manner and it would be super useful to have them in the builder. Is this something that's planned for a future release?
It seems like you can make it in a subclass, as subclass features are now being listed as class features in the homebrew tool, and you can mark them to replace actual class features. I'm not sure if it's the most efficient, as you have to select the subclass with class feature variants in it to actually use them in your character sheet (Therefore forcing you to add them to every homebrew subclass if you want both the subclass features and the variant features). If anyone has better options, it would be nice to hear them
Heck, I'd settle for being able to add additional known spells via house rules and the ability to edit sheets a bit more.
Just make it a feat, and check the "Consumes spell slot" as yes, and the "Counts as known spell" as No (because otherwise it counts against the total number, and you don't want that)

I don't seem to have that option in the feats tab. I know it works elsewhere, but not as a feat.
I was wondering this as well. I thought Homebrew Classes was something originally talked about back in 2017, but haven't seen anything official about it recently.
Is it intentional to only be able to replace subclass features? I’m trying to fix my homebrew Ranger subclasses for the the class feature variants and it’s not letting me assign the homebrewed variant to the base class features for replacement.
I'm in agreement with @HexbladeAnkou . There doesn't seem to he a way to make them replace core class features. When you make the feature in homebrew, then select "replacement", the only features it allows you to select are the subclass ones. You have the option to leave it blank, but then it does nothing in character creation. It doesn't even get added when you select it. This is unfortunate.
Correct, it only works on subclass features. We cannot yet affect core class features on DDB.
I'm going to be honest, that's useless. I can already make entire subclasses. What do I need optional features for them for? They have this coding to be able to replace core features, they have the coding to allow us to make tons of other homebrew. Yet they can't allow us to make hombrew optional class features. The ability is literally right there! Let us have it!
Not quite. They have it coded that an optional subclass feature can replace a granted subclass feature, and an optional core class feature can replace another core class feature, like to like. Since core class features are still locked behind Admin privileges, and we don’t have those.... 🤷♂️
I understand what you're saying and I appreciate your response. I completely get the "like to like". I would have thought it was silly to place optional core class features within subclasses, that's just what everyone else was talking about. What I'm saying is, the fact that they have this coding to create optional core class features which can replace core class features, and they aren't allowing us to make homebrew ones makes no sense to me. People have been requesting to be able to make full classes or modify existing ones for years, which has obviously been very difficult for them to figure out, understandably. These optional class features seem to be an obvious answer to give their customers most of what they want without having to grant us permission to go in and muck around with the base classes themselves. Create a separate homebrew option called "homebrew optional class features" and flip the switch that allows a feature created to replace a core class feature. This is what I mean by them having it, but not using it.
I have discovered that if you name a homebrew subclass feature the same name as a core class feature, the homebrew feature replaces said feature in your character sheet. You can then put the true title of the homebrew feature in its description. Not an ideal solution but it works for now.

Wow, I really hope that's a "I kind like that" kind of "Interesting" and a "Whaaat! There's a way for people to get what they want? We must not have that.", kind of "Interesting". Because I think I would like to try what Araketh has said.
I did some tinkering with this, and found the following facts:
Adding a subclass feature with the same name DOES replace the class feature as Araketh said if it is the SAME level.
If you want the feature to be available at a LOWER level, however, the class feature will override the subclass feature.
Adding the feature at a HIGHER level causes it to override the class feature. It appears the last one takes precedence.
If anyone can figure out how to force the subclass feature to take priority over the class feature even when it is created at a lower level, I'll give you a shiny Vorpal Sword. You don't even have to let your DM know!
You could always add the subclass feature twice, once at the lower level and again at a higher level to overwrite the base class feature. (I’ll take my vorpal sword as a scimitar, preferably with a purple handle wrap and matching scabbard. 😉)

A way to make stand along class changes would be nice, yes!

@HexbladAnkou I believe you have to check the homebrew function in the first page of the edit character section.

That's the kind of out of the box thinking that shows you don't need the sword! You have my gratitude instead! Just kidding, here you go!
