The orc crumples under the blow and is still; blood pools around his body and as the sound of pounding blood dissipates from Laerthelas's ears, the rest of the party reach him and start to catch their breath.
Looking southeast where the patch switches back into the mountain, you see that shallow steps lead up through a steep fissure to the south and turn east into the mountainside.

Garavant works to catch his breath, chuckling a little at Laerthalas's two word comment. "Well fought, my friend, well fought indeed," he says, catching himself before raising his voice.
He looks about the area and peers toward the path heading into the mountain.
Ingrida looks at the orc crumpled on the ground, and then looks around for more. She sighed though when she didn't see any, "Well, let's take what we need from this one, and try to find some more orcs to test our steel against"
"Aghhh! I run all the way up here and only find a crashed orc and sliced orc!…Well whatever. Good job barbarian." Breathing heavily, Lucy wipes sweat from her forehead. She approaches the orc and nudges it's body with her toe, making sure it's not playing dead.
As you look southeast to see where the fissure in the mountain heads, you notice three arrow slits evenly spaced in the east wall of the rock. They are about 15 feet above the floor.
@Everyone: You are gathered on a rocky ledge with two obvious directions of travel available; back the way you came, or southeast into the fissure and the darkness beyond.
(OOC: Everyone please add 40xp for the orc sentries. I appreciate that Laerthelas did most of the heavy lifting, but they say that you can learn from watching as much as doing)
"Careful now" Ingrida says pointing about 15 foot up on one of the walls on the southeast passage way. "There may be traps in the walls, or possibly a spot for an ambush."
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"With my Web spell, I can block the slit and restrain someone behind it easily. But I want to save that spell later. So…Let's try another method first." Lucy crouches beside the dead orc and searches it's body for something like water skin.
"Hmmm... Look like it's gonna be dark down there" and Bree casts light on the end of her staff. "Probably better I stay a little behind to prevent the light from giving any sneaking away, which way do you think we should be going?".
"Oh, I remember, we should probably take something from these orcs to get paid. Anyone a good idea?"
"Dwarves take ears, no other ear like an Orc ear" Ingrida said very matter of factly, "As we pass by the slits I can use my shield to cover up a portion of it, that way if anyone attempts to fire an arrow through it'll be met by dwarven steel"
Garavant looks down at the fallen orcs, thinking about Bree's question. "I'd guess ears are a common trophy?" he says.
Regarding the arrow slits and their approach, Garavant mulls for a moment. "I can scout ahead a bit," he says. "My eyes are good enough in the dark. As for those arrow slits, I suppose if we press against the wall right under them there wouldn't be much they could do. More important now is if someone's there right now, already aware of us."
Each orc has a javelin and greataxe that are useable, but probably would not fetch much at market. Their hide armour is filthy and unlikely to be of any use to a non-orc.
"Ingrida, does that mean you have an earjar with you where we can keep them? We get paid per orc after all." And she takes her dagger and starts slicing off the ears.
"If I'm the only one that can't see in the dark it is only fine with me if someone guides me, so we can keep silent. Or maybe I can climb on someone's shoulder's or something."
Ingrida smiled, "No earjar, but happy to carry the ears here in me pack" Ingrida slid her backpack off her back and opened a side pouch where they could store the ears, moving what was currently inside to another pouch so as not taint it with the orc blood.
"I leave that ear business for you guys. Stupid animals, doesn't even have a water skin. Did they drink their own pee?" While others collect their trophies, Lucy hands her own water skin to Artemis.
She presses her back against the wall as Garavant said and moves toward the arrow slit. At the same time, her white owl files along the wall, positions itself over the slit. Artemis pours water from above and Lucy casts her cantrip,Shape Water to turn the water into a rectangular cover that seals the arrow slit.
(OOC:If Lucy's is inappropriate. I will change this post)
(OOC: Yeah, that's exactly what Lucy is going to do! First she cover the slit with water lid. Then when her party go through under the slit, she will turn the water into solid ice.)
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Assuming Lucy's water trick works, once that is done, Garavant will quietly move a little ahead of the others, staying to the wall below the slits even if they are frozen over. He goes up to where the path disappears into the rock and peers into the dimness beyond. He has his rapier in his off-hand, a dagger in his good hand.
As Breefinishes collecting the orc ears and Ingridaputs them into the newly-vacated pouch in her pack, Lucy and Garavantcarry out their plan.
Artemis flies quietly to a point above the first arrow slit and pours water from the waterskin. Lucy issues a simple hand gesture and the flow of water expands to form a rectangular shape identical to the size of the opening. Another flourish from the same hand and the sheet of water suddenly freezes in place, propped into the gap.
Garavantedges along the wall slowly and carefully, easily avoiding the slits fifteen feet above the ground. You hear and see the following, which you are able to relay to your team mates via simple hand gestures:
Sound – movement and muttering from inside the arrow slits
