Ok, the panther and the raven will be back in about ten hours, so what do you plan to do in the meantime? Also, the panther cannot report anything, it is only an animal, not able to communicate with Callandra in any meaningful way, so not sure what sort of information you plan on getting there... Does anyone have a way to see invisible things? Truesight, See invisibility, blindsight, or even a Tressym familiar?
Yashin
After you look at the shield for a bit, you get the following message to your thoughts...
"I do what I may to protect you from outside threats. I can do little to help you against those in your midst though. Be wary of Callandra, I believe she may be a wolf in sheep's clothing..."
Kallandra plans to cast Comprehend Languages. It's not ideal and you may not allow it but I figured it was worth a shot.

Kallandra plans to cast Comprehend Languages. It's not ideal and you may not allow it but I figured it was worth a shot.
Sorry, if there were not an actual spell that does it, then I might allow it, but Speak With Animals is specific for that purpose. Comprehend Languages is specificly for actual language understanding and I would not allow it for speaking with animals. Plus you would have to get the very complicated idea of scouting and reporting understood by the panther, which Comprehend Languages does not allow for.
Kallandra watches the animals move off then turns to Ssej and Umeven. "Let's go boys. I mislike that cloud. Let's check the perimeter. And, I have a thought on how I can talk to the panther but it probably won't work." Raising her voice, "I don't suppose any of you can speak with animals?" After hearing the responses, she sighs.
After they've moved away from the others, she says to Umeven, "What happened?"
Ichika leads her horse to their wagon then jumps down, helping others to step up camp and staying alert. She looks over to the swirling cloud in the distance, brows furrowed, but unable to distinguish anything from the distance. And it looks like her companions are already inspecting it.
"That's very thoughtful of you, Brock." Ichika says, as she sees Brock showing Yashin the little statue. Then she realizes speaking out made it seem like she was eavesdropping them. She blushes then awkwardly turns back to her work, hoping on one paid her attention. "I'm going to start the fire."
"Thank you, kindly miss. Some Dwarves hide their affection, but we are a big-hearted people. Even to the giant spawn like him," says Brock laughing in a way to show he meant no offense to Yashin.

After they've moved away from the others, she says to Umeven, "What happened?"
Umeven bursts from having held this in.
"It started before we entered the city. He went to the river and... Tainted it with something. I don't know what it was but it didn't look good. So when we entered the city, I followed him. My hackles were up. So he just moseys along til it got late, and this woman came stumbling out of a bar. She starts acting a bit off and Grishkar starts following her. She dips into an alley. Grishkar follows her, hypnotizes her and then starts saying something about killing her for his god. I couldn't just watch it happen, so I... Interfered. I don't think he knows it was me though."
Ssej growls listening to Umeven, "Any idea who thiss women wass? Wass sshe evil or did sshe have any inkling of harming the innocent or wass sshe jusst convenient? Obvioussly I have no issssue with killing regardlessss of the ssituation, but only if they desserve it or bring harm to otherss. Not ssure you know of my upbringing but I wass a tool of the thayanss for massss sslaughter until I wass able to break my chainss and exacted vengeance on my tormentorss. I have a perssonal vendetta againsst any thayan and will kill mosst on ssite no quesstion assked, which is alsso why I have an issssue with the undead. I can let it slide that he needs the detesstable undead to fight, I guessss, ass Hoar hass told me to work with thiss group, but I will not let any undead be made of the innocent, they do not desserve it. What sshall we do about the ssituation."
Kallandra listens first to Umeven's report and Ssej's words. She nods, "My own feelings on the matter are similar but not quite so...pragmatic when it comes to killing prisoners. However, the innocent must be protected. And yet, we dare not risk fracturing the group. Like it or not, he is an able addition to our group and his god in as much danger as ours from whatever's coming. Given his reaction to my attempted counter spell I think it best we give him no reason to suspect you just yet, Umeven. Also, as long as we're not in a town or city, we probably have little to fear. He won't risk coming after one of us for the same reason we will not go against him directly. So we have time to consider and come up with a way to watch him. All of us are skilled at concealment. I'm sure we can think of something. For now, the woman is safe and he's away from...temptation. For, I say wait and think and plan."
"I think I'd prefer word from above to get this sorted, but I'm with you. We'll need to be mindful of his 'free time.' I'll do my part. But honestly... He's a powerful wizard. I'm not sure I could stop him without hurting him. He'll be more mindful of his preparations in the future."
Umeven is talking low and fast, a controlled freak out.
Mouth slightly ajar, teeth glistening in the evening sun, Ssej thinks for a moment, "Fine, I will do nothing for now but keep watch, ass our godss do want uss to work together." Turning to look at Umeven, " Again ssorry for my earlier dissmissssal of your warning, I won't let my perssonal disstractionss or feelingss blind me to what is going on." Then Ssej will look up at the sky and the road, "Sshall we sstart to look for a place to resst for the night I am ssure I can find ssome food around here to feed uss for the night."
The night passes as uneventfully as you could wish. Strange sounds in the night cause a few of you to wake up, with the uncanny feeling that someone was watching you. Nothing came from it though, and you were able to settle in again after making sure there was no one around.
In the morning you wait for the return of the panther and raven, but neither return. Grishkar realizes his raven has been destroyed, and Callandra can surmise the same with the panther.
If anything there are more vultures circling overhead as you get ready to move out this morning. They are still centered at a point ahead of you. The rolling nature of the foothills here make it hard to see anything on the ground at that distant point, but you should be able to see something when you travel the few hours up to the top of the next hill.
As you reach that hilltop you look ahead and see a town is situated directly under the circling vultures. It is still distant, and will take several hours to reach.
Looking over at Grishkar which contrition on her face and in her voice, she says, "I'm sorry about your familiar, Grishkar. I assume it was lost as was the panther." The necromancer likely won't appreciate the apology but an apology was never about the recipient anyway.
Looking at the town still some hours distant and its circling band of vultures, she pulls her broom from its holder and, hopping on, says, "I'm going to see if I can get a better look from higher up." With that said she gives her horse the command to stay with the group and zooms up on her broom, scanning both sky and ground, before and behind, up and down, look for threats or anything at all out of the ordinary. She rises to a height of about 80 feet and moves out ahead of the group by about 70 feet.
Perception 20
ooc: She's about 106 feet from whomever is at the from of the group.
Ssej looks at the bird and then the town, and regrets not saying something before Kallandra takes off, "Thiss iss a disstraction, we sshould jusst move around the town, ssending word back to Baldur'ss Gate that thiss town wass attacked and let them deal with it. Who knowss what ambussh iss waiting for uss in there, ass they have had time to plan."

"A spirit of another plane, destined to serve and be returned." The necromancer was impassive as he rummaged about for the incense and herbs needed to burn and summon another familiar from their smoke.
Overlooking the razed city, Grishkar smiles atop his wagon, "I should rather like to see what caused such destruction. If this has anything to do with those pursuing us, I'd like to know what they're capable of."

“Ssej is right. It is nothing more than a distraction at best. At worst it is another trap to slow us down. We should continue on. We are still in a race after all.” Yashin sits in the driver's seat of his own wagon, ready to urge his team forward around the town.
"You are correct, this is likely meant as a distraction, but it's one I don't care to live with at my back or on my conscience. If we pass it by, and these evils will only grow, and use this as a place to strike at us from. It seems unwise to leave it to become a hardened fortress." Umeven will examine the vultures to see if they appear naturally occurring or supernatural.

[OOC: are you saying this out loud to Kallandra or in that message?"]
