Before Fenkas steps into the Coliseum for his fight today, he trades out the broom that he had never used, and the pair of gloves that he had first walked into the Coliseum for a set of gauntlets. As soon as he puts the heavy metal gloves on, he feels s surge of strength rush through his body, and after spending an hour or so getting used to them, he is prepared to use this strength to show his opponents that speed and strength are not as far apart as one may think.

What are the rules about trading in magic items?

(OOC: It is a 2 for 1 and the magic item you get must be of the same rarity as the lowest rarity magic item you trade in. (i.e. an uncommon + a rare would allow you to choose an uncommon magic item of your choice or two uncommon magic items would allow you to choose an uncommon one as Fenkas did above.) @Orileo might be able to link you to the exact rules on it though if you want more specifics.)

 @Aaron: That's pretty much it right there. The one exception is of course at the time you win a match, you can forgo taking a reward from the options presented at the time in favor of trading a magic item you already possess, for 1 of your choosing of the same rarity or lower.

Are pets allowed? Cause I have a stupid and funny idea for a character, but it requires a giant rat as a pet.

(@Underfan: The closest exception regarding "pets" is as followed:)

Spells of level-2 or higher which control allied creatures or which create summon or animate any creature (such as Conjure Elemental) shall not be used in the arena. Class features which summon or control creatures (Such as Ranger's Companion) may be used. The first level spell Find Familiar will also be permitted. Spells that do not create creatures (Such as Flaming Sphere) will be permitted as well.

 Darn. My character was going to be a forest gnome that suffers from dwarfism, who rides a giant rat into battle.

(@Underfan: Well, you can sorta still do that with the Ranger, if you have access to TCoE and didn't mind reflavoring the Beast of Land for Beastmaster Ranger's Primeval Companion. Which if not clear before, the optional ruling is allowed)

 Arriving with small group of road weary travelers, a spirited blonde girl jumps down from a rickety wagon and stretches, looking around appraisingly. She gathers her pack and her sword and heads into the tavern. She trusts that one of her father's hirelings will arrange lodgings and such... she instead finds a nice corner table and produces a deck of playing cards, shuffling them rhythmically while eyeing the other patrons to gauge their interest. She'd come to fight in the arena matches but there was plenty of time to kill before then, and she had a little gold to wager...

Svarn Wildheart, A water Genasi, walks alone into the tavern, his hood covering his face as he kept it down. He didnt trust anyone at this point, but knew of the Coliseum and how it works. his forest-colored cloak matched that of his outfit, which resembled that of a nearby Monastary that he was a part of. his rusty weapon, a yklwa in shape, was propped up against the table where he sat, not yet ordering a drink, but listening around him

the water genasi removes their hood, revealing wavy teal hair that looks like its in water 24/7, which only made them more visible. they hated their hair, and have contemplated cutting it, but it grew back quicker each time

Unless I forgot to update my character sheet it looks like Nock has a rare token, so he'll  in that and his amulet for a belt of hill giant strength.

(@LST: Fairly certain you traded your one rare from Roondra and your flaming greatsword for the +2 Maul. But, I'll try to sift through the records further on the subject. That point being said...)

Edit: @LST: I stand corrected! It was a flat trade of greatsword for +2 maul after winning the 8th level match, so you're good to trade.
