“We’re in for it now.” Val says out loud. Hearing the sound of guards approaching; and realizing he is woefully unprepared for a fight at this time, Val attempts to hide out of sight.
Stealth: 13
Using the guards passive perception, two don't notice you as they come in, but there is one that does and he points to the foot that you have sticking out from the barrel you're hiding behind.
Did you have any prepared actions or did you just want to hide?
Val stands up from behind the barrel he was hiding behind, revealing himself to the guard. “All clean back there!” Val exclaims as he claps the dust off his hands and smiles confidently at the guards.
Role a persuasion check if you don't want to continue combat, or attack if you would rather do that. Right now you and Daphywise are the targets of the guards.
Persuasion: 8
That's not enough to persuade them.
They will start to aim at you, but Daphywise's Eldritch blast signals to them that another humanoid is in the room.
They don't lose their actions, but one of them will aim at Daphywise. One does notice stool and will aim at them. And one will aim at you.

7 damage to you and you need to make a CON save. DC 13.
( I assume that Julius would need a Sleight of Hand check to see what he has stolen from the guard. I will roll twice. If the DM approves my advantage I will take the biggest value. If not, I just use the first one.)
Sleight of Hand:19,12
( Sorry I forgot the quote. Also, is the floor of the lift room loose earth? )
That will be enough to get the key.
Everything is carved out of stone, so there isn't much in the way of loose dirt. The basket for the lift itself is made of some sort of heavy/durable material.
@ Buppido, Topsy and Turvy:
Julius returns to the Derro and gnome twins. The sorcerer shows them the key he stole from the guard and whispers. " … The trick wouldn't last long. Tell me while we have time, did you find something useful? "
Buppido has found a crossbow bolt while the twins found an iron bar that can be used as a club.
Julius looks at the weapons which the derro and gnome twins found. He considers their situation and makes a decision. " It seems at least one deity is on our side. Very well then… " The guard will not allow the prisoners to keep their weapons. If they have to take action, that must be now. " I'll distract the guard. You know what to do, right? " Giving the guard a glance, the half elf quietly mutters the spell.
Action: Julius casts Minor Illusion to make a 5ft cube iron box to cover the head of the drow guard. I think the first th thing you do when you suddenly become blind is check your eyes. So hopefully this spell can make the temporarily Blind and delay his action for one turn. )
Stealth: 12, 20 ( If the illusion sound Julius made is still attracting the guard's attention, I will use the biggest value. If not use the first roll )
@DM
Does Julius or other prisoners know where the hole of the lift leads up to? And does Julius know the name of the guard?
There is some dim light in the room, so can you describe in more detail how this illusion is shaped around the Drow's head? Is it touching any areas? How is it blocking out the dim light?
Is this Stealth roll to conceal your casting? If so it succeeds.
Umarook charges the original guard if he is still alive (if not, closest guard to her) and hits him with her manacled wrists - unarmed strike: attack 12 damage 2
Uses her bonus action to cast healing word - 5
And shouts out, "we could use some help in here!" she looks over at Derendil - how's he doing?
I've been out of town a couple of days. My apologies for the late reply! I forgot to post here about that.
The guard is down. And Derendil failed his CON save, so he is knocked out and poisoned.
Jimjar will take his turn to run over to Derendil and try to shake him awake. He will wake up on his next turn.
Eldeth with attempt to distract the guards by stabbing them with the flint she found. 2
( How many guards do we have in this area left? Still all three? )
Umarook is hoping for better luck this time - attacks a guard that is already damaged, either the original one that I knocked down or if it was the next one, toll the bells again, WIS save of 13 or damage: 11

I am sorry for the delay. The notification didn't tell me your post somehow. Yes that Stealth check is for Spell casting.
The box Julius made is a 5ft black cube, floating in the air and covering the upper half of the guard. It would block the sight of the drow but give the prisoners enough view to attack. I assume it will work like a temporary, one turn and one time only blind spell.

As long as it's not touching the guard, it would catch him off guard. So yes, I would say that you have one round of the guard caught unawares.

Hey Everyone,
It's been a busy week at work for me so I haven't been able to respond as much.
I'm going to get to everyone's posts this weekend and we should be able to continue as normal next week. :)

7 damage to you and you need to make a CON save. DC 13.
They/Them
Sir Percival, Ront, and Sarith are there with you.
Sir Percival has Ront and Sarith's attention, so they can come and wake you if he ask them to.

There is some dim light in the room, so can you describe in more detail how this illusion is shaped around the Drow's head? Is it touching any areas? How is it blocking out the dim light?

That is successful. What do you say to them? Misty has been knocked unconscious.
The guards will get a chance to fire at you, Ront, and Sarith though.

Guard 2: 9
Guard 3: 7

You take 7 damage and need to roll a CON save DC 13

CON save: 21
(what is it that they’ve aimed at us exactly?)
They are crossbows, and they look pretty gnarly.
You are knocked unconscious and are poisoned. You take 7 points of damage.

Is this 7 in addition to the 7 from the hit itself?
If so, and its 14 total damage then Val is down on top of poisoned and unconscious.
CON Save: 19
Sorry for the confusion. You only take 7 points of damage, not 14.
They/Them
You make it.
