(lol works for me! Did you ever check to see if your friend had a trick coin?)
Ok, i'll give everybody the rest of today to weigh in, and then I'll continue the story in the morning (abt 11 hr from now) heading for the pond unless people speak up in opposition.
(Sorry for the delay, was travelling all day yesterday and trying to get my life back in order after the trip today.)
"Sounds like we have two solid leads here, the squirrel lair and the pond. Should we split up and tackle them in parallel or take them one at a time? Maybe flip a coin? I'm game for either, as long as I get a chance to get up and scout around those trees at some point!"
"I think we should split up to cover more ground."

"I say we stick together. We're safer in larger numbers. Besides, we might find the chrysalis first, or the acorns first. If we separate, we won't know when we're finished" he reminds everyone
(Ok, I'm going to turn the main thread towards the pond. If Dyumi and/or anyone else want to split off, post here or PM me and we can do that as well.)
Suddenly overcome by ennui, the party half-heartedly decides to head westward again, away from the trees. Malichi looks up at the mighty oak, somewhat forlornly, and whispers "I'll be back...", before re-entering AGGE. Executing a less-than-perfect seven-point turn, the rogue manages to get the clockwork vehicle turned around and headed back in the direction that they have heard water cascading.
After a few hours they once again reach the river of gravel, and in order to get AGGE across, it is necessary for everyone but the driver to climb out to lighten the load. Slowly the Gopher Eliminator traverses the bumpy path, while everyone outside fearfully watches for the terrifyingly sticky hands of small children. No pediatric perils appear, and after another hour, with some team-lifting and pushing by party members, all of you have reached the other side of the walkway.
The sound of falling water is much louder now, and it is not long before AGGE stops at the edge of a vast (from your viewpoint) body of water. It is perhaps 350 feet in diameter with a small island in the middle, from which rises a tall stone column, apparently the pedestal of a birdbath/fountain. Topping the pedestal is what appears to be a granite bowl, 75 feet in diameter. You hear the sounds of splashing and falling water coming from above, and water falls like great drops of rain from the rim of the the bowl down to the pond below..
Here at the edge of the pond the water is dark and murky, but there is occasional movement, as if large fish or other aquatic creatures inhabit this space. As you ruminate on your next steps, tremors in the ground signal the approach of someone normal-sized. Huge sandalled feet under a loose brownrobe approach the water's edge, and splash into the shallow (for him) pond, stopping as the giant figure reaches the bowl. (Judging by how the water covers the giant's ankles, you estimate its depth at about 20-25 feet.) The figure's hand, far above you, holds something as it reaches down into the birdbath, and then withdraws. The giant then remains standing, and a deep low voice booms rhythmically, in what sounds like chanting or a prayer, if it were humpback whales doing the praying at the bottom of a dead, hollow volcano. The sandalled feet then do an about-face and march off back to the north, carrying whatever was withdrawn from the fountain off with them.
(lol works for me! Did you ever check to see if your friend had a trick coin?)
(It was a perfectly normal US quarter, saw him do it many times! Wild stuff.)
Zensiro sizes up the pond, wary of the idea of exploring this dark water that appears to contain creatures of a size sufficient to swallow any one of us whole. With some nervousness in his voice, he says, "So Zithers, you say that what you're looking for is ... underwater? Maybe you should double-check that with your patron! Regardless, I'm a bit out of my element here with the life aquatic. Malichi, do you think this AGGE machine can dive safely? Anyone have any water breathing abilities? Or something that will stop us from becoming a fish's lunch?"
(OOC: I'm having a hard time remembering what items we've picked up that might be of use. Anyone got anything?)
The person who is the target of the quest should be the leader of that segment of the adventure, with the others absolutely able to make suggestions and offer assistance. But for the quest rewards to be earned, I'd say the majority of the puzzle-solving, obstacle-overcoming, planning and executing, etc ought to come from the primary quester. You all are very deferential and democratic, which is awesome, but think of this as a temporary leadership role. To accomplish your quest, you get to be the benevolent boss, within reason of course.

(Dyumi knows what direction he needs to head in, he will go do his quest with anyone who goes back east to the trees later.)
Dyumi volunteers to help deal with any belligerent fish if needed.

"pfft you're telling me, as someone with a fire based patron, I'm not too keen on the wetter world either.
Here's hoping my item has an aura because I'm going to cast a quick detect magic to even out our odds, then unless someone can wild shape into a fish, we should try to find something that floats, and i can paddle over and use mage hand to fish the wish stone out of the water. I wouldnt want to risk breaking the AGGE. The last thing left to decide is do we want to all paddle out or leave people to play fisherperson if i end up becoming bait?" As he explains all this Zithers would like to search around for raft-like objects (investigation 12)

“I’m afraid I have no magic useful for this, but I can watch carefully and try to scare off any attacking fish.”” Cerlinde says.
(I'm adopting the optional rule that fire spells do half damage underwater, that verbal components can be spoken underwater, but then you run out of breath in a number of rounds equal to your CON modifier. There is quite a bit of debate back and forth on this, but this is how we'll do it. Unless you know/have water breathing.)
Zensiro offers to help Zithers in attempting to drive the AGGE up to/into the pond, perhaps just far enough to get a sense of its buoyancy without it getting far enough in to require being manually dragged out. As a precaution, he will affix some ropes to the AGGE in case that we screw it up and do have to try to drag it out. Zensiro will also examine the controls carefully to see if there is a "boat mode" button. Finally, he will attempt to scavenge among the natural debris to see if there are sufficient materials to fashion a raft.
Investigation9 - Examining the controls of the AGGE?
Everyone is now rested, quested, and ready to roll. You climb into the Auto-Gardener and Gopher Eliminator (I sure hope you guys christen it with a shorter name soon), and soon figure out the fairly simple controls. The rudder turns left and right, and can be moved so that the AGGE moves forward or in reverse. There are six benches or chairs in the forward part of the cabin for party members to sit on, and a large cargo area in the back. There is a wide opening in the front face so that whomever is inside the AGGE can look ahead, and steer around obstacles. Just above the opening, on the inside of the front wall, are three buttons. One has a drawing of a tree on it, another a depiction of a fish, and the third button is simply labelled, "DON'T TOUCH".
Zithers will make the executive descision to press the fish button, and attempt to drive into the water if something happens, and move towards the stone's aura if it gave off one. Otherwise, he will simply look to see what he can find in the water. (perception 14)

"although i suppose it wouldnt hurt to carefully check if the AGGE can withstand the water"
(So, Zithers, how would you like to check that?)
There are no conveniently miniscule pre-made rafts in sight. You see grass, rock, twigs and earth. And water. Lots of water.
