Chuba will follow Atoh to hear what Copperkettle knows, but as with most social situations, she'll take a backseat to her bandmates who are better attuned to such things.
Atoh and Chuba find Copperkettle near a door that leads into the back of the inn. She seems frazzled, very upset by whatever has drawn so many people in, and is fussing at people working in the back in a very high whisper.
"I don't care if they're asking for hot food! Did you see what they did to the Rolling Rock Alehouse? Opened it up like a barrel and scooped the insides out! Do you know what was inside? That's right, Chack, it was people."
___
The room remained mostly quiet, even in the rising heat of so many bodies pressed together. Orin's orb lulls the baby's mother into a sense of calm, while the upset child settles its eyes on Brevon and watches mesmerized as the Cleric does his best to keep the kid cajoled.
One thing is certain; everyone in the room is afraid of something. They're way too quiet and seem to be huddled together for safety, not unlike animals in a pen.
If Jek saw Atoh and Chuba heading towards someone, he would follow. Jek will let Atoh speak to Copperkettle first, since she knows her. If needed, he will help in the conversation.
Afterwards, Jek will say in a whisper to Copperkettle "I can warm some of the food a bit, if you want. No fire needed." He will wave his hand at a pot of stew, while saying Hwoot, casting Prestidigitation to warm the stew. "Is that good? I could cool it down again, if you like."
Since Atoh is the only one in her team who has met Eran Copperkettle, she decides to talk with the owner by herself. Atoh waits for Jek to perform his spell and opens her mouth. " Evening Ms. Copperkettle. I am Atoh. The Dragon Speaker of the Khun clan, and eighth child of Ongs-Khan. " Thenomad princess raises her shield to show their symbol ( The coiling Luck Dragon ) to Eran. " I am currently working as a member of a warrior band, called the Order of the Phoenix. The one who calmed the crying baby over there is our wisdom leader Brevon. And one who warmed your stew and suggested a smart solution to your problem is our quick wit sorcerer Jek…" One by one, Atoh introduces her friends to the owner, telling her how useful and competent they are. " We are the emissary of the Childlike Empress. Please tell us what is happening in this town. Why are people gathering in your inn? And why do they look so terrified? "

Eran seems imrpessed by Jek's parlor trick, and points him toward the kitchen.
"There are plenty of folk who could use some hot broth or, even better, a hot meal." She says, motioning with her hands like she wants everyone to be quiet. "Just be careful. Too much noise or light or anything and those brutes may cross the river. Or if they smell cooking food...maybe you shouldn't help."
Eran nods while she thinks about what she just said.
"Good to see you, Atoh." Eran says in a whisper. She squints, studying this Halfling newcomer, but doesn't seem put off or anything. "Hill Giants, that's what. I think two. Maybe three. Definitly two. Has there been three? No, no, I don't think so. Anyway. Showed up a few days ago. Ate some kids playing near the river, near the Three Sisters bridges. When we stopped going that way, they started coming over here. Tore a house open and ate everyone inside. Almost a dozen people so far. We blew up the bridges yesterday and they haven't crossed the river since but...everyone is afraid that when they get hungry they'll take to swimming."
“ I knew it! I knew it! " Tola jumps and points his talon at the outside. " The town is under attack. The giants are eating people! We have to do something! " " But what can we do with two Hill Giants? Even one of them is out of our hands… "
Atoh is wondering about what she should do. She wants to help these people. It's the reason why Atoh left her land and answered the call of the ivory tower. The princess despised her father. Ongs-Khan the Dragon Lord has great power but he only uses it for his clan and never shares his dragon fire with outsiders. But now… she can understand his anguish. Her father isn't a cold heart man, he just doesn't want to neglect his duty as leader for small conscience.
" Small but that doesn't mean it's wrong. And big only means it's big." Atoh notices her dragon looks at her. Tola pulls the girl's sleeves and whispers in her ears. " The gray man, you mean Gandalf? The trolls… it's the tale he told us in the spring festival… humm… I know what you want to say. It might do the trick… "
@Eveyone
Atoh tellsherfriends what she just heard from Eran. " Orin's idea is great. However the townsfolk cannot rebuild the bridge in a few days. Also I think they don't want to do it in front of giants. I have another idea that may solve the problem with minimum damage. But I want to know what you guys want to do. And if you have another idea… " The girl watches others with an anxious look on her face.
Orin says "Atoh, you come up with a plan/design and we can build it." He holds up his screw driver which rotates and spins and then turns into a hammer.
Jek will stop heating the food when Eran warns him off. Hill give a half shrug, and say "Let me know what you need."
To Atoh's question, Jek will shake is head. "At best, I may be able to distract one or two of them for a few hours... maybe. But otherwise.... Oh wait, they like good smelling things. Lets just make the village smell really bad!..... No?... Yea, probably wouldn't work. Okay, what's your idea Atoh?"
Atoh closes eyes. She organizes her thoughts one more time and starts to explain. " This plan is based on a story which a wizard called Gandalf told me. One time, Gandalf and his friends set on a journey to steal a massive treasure from an evil dragon. On their way, unfortunately his companions were caught by a trio of huge, hideous stone trolls. When they were about to be eaten, Gandalf came up with a cunning plan. The wizard mimicked trolls' voices, starting a fight amongst them. He kept them arguing until dawn came, and the Sun turned them into stone. " Atoh watches her friend's face and continues. " I want to do the same trick but with more help from you guys. Chuba, I need you to choose some insults in Giants. The words which are so venomous that can set fire on the hill giant's brain. Jek, you listen to the giants talking to each other, right? Can you use your illusion to mimic their voice and speak the insults? Chuba might know the words, but you are good at using them. So I'm counting on you. Orin, I saw you record sounds and reproduce them with your tinkering. Can you make objects that record the insults and shape them like bullets which can be shot from my bow? Wise Brevon, I need your Guidance and Blessing. I have my dragon's blessing. But it might not be enough. I need every blessing we have, because … I will go to the Giant's Wood and shoot the monster with magical bullets. When the bullets touch the body of the giant, it will unleash the recorded insults, deceive the monster to believe the other one mocks them and throws stones at them. The giants would go for each other's throat. We wait til one of them dies or both badly injured. Then we will surround the survivor and finish them… " Atoh looks down at her toe, biting her lips. " That's my plan. It's not the best but the only one I come up with. What do you think? If you have better idea or knowledge about the Hill Giants, please tell me now"
Brevon scratches his beard. "It is a very clever plan," he says, very softly. "I can see why your people must respect you as a leader, Atoh. It is very risky, though. We will have to enter the giant's territory. We might be discovered, or ambushed, along the way. If things don't go as planned, well... How close must you be to reach the giant with your bullet?"
Jek will nod along, then cast minor illusion behind Atoh. It will say, in Atoh's voice "Jek is the best, Jek can do it. Jek will need to be close, though."
Jek will respond to his own minor illusion "You're right Atoh, I will need to be close. It shouldn't be a problem. But, if I come screaming out of the woods, please save me! Do we go now, or is this plan for the morning?"
"… I think early in the morning. Because half of us can't see in the dark. We need rest and I have a few things to do. " Before they rest, Atoh gives Jek a brief lecture on how to walk silently in the woods.
@Orin
She also asks the Artificer to make a cloak that allows its wearer to be mixed up with forest and a pair of animal fur boots that can make absurd footsteps. They are copies of Atoh's own gear and wouldn't be hard to imitate.
@Chuba
If someone wants to follow Atoh to support her, she will tell them to bring their mount. So that they can outrun the hungry monsters if the plan does not go as she says .
Somehow they made it through the night without the Hill Giants attacking Mantry's Reach. People braved the world and ventured out come morning, where reportedly the Hill Giants would only attack in the evenings and sometimes at night, but they still didn't trust this; everyone was being very cautious, and still the children that played in the streets were scolded by adults who wanted them to try being a little quieter for their own good.
Crossing the Three Sisters to get across the river was an event itself. The southernmost of the sister bridges was in bad shape after being demolitioned by the townsfolk, but it was at least crossable for people their sized. It was easy to see how the damage to the bridge would make it hard for a giant to get across; one side was gone, and the foot path going across was only four feet wide in some spots.
The sequoias of the Giant's Wood were vast and tall, reaching high into the air. It was easy to see how giant's could hide in a forest where the trunks were bigger than many houses. The morning was sunny and clear, and birds were singing in the enormous canopy overhead.
"Now to find," Chuba says after the group crosses the bridge. "Or, perhaps we lure. Copperkettle said giants attack evenings and attracted by cooking smells. We find clearing, start cooking at dusk, hide, wait. Thoughts?"
"Setting a trap of our own is far preferable to walking into that of another,"whispers Brevon, trying even harder than before to be quiet. "Giants are not known for their great intellect, I suppose, but that is no reason to underestimate our adversary. We should not venture further into the woods than is strictly necessary, especially since not all of us are as easily able to avoid detection as Atoh and Jek." He spreads his arms to indicate his armor and shield.
Chuba spends time hunting for larger game so she can set the trap just before evening by cooking the animal(s) in a suitable clearing around which they can hide.
