(Ula accepted the letter from Flint before he left the room, and quickly tucked it into a different interior pocket than the one it had been in before.)
They crouch down to examine the space that Flint had pointed out, and try to investigate it to see how secure or hidden it would really be. [Investigation 17] Regardless of the result, Ula still doesn't feel like it's a great idea - especially once Soriah becomes so intent on it. "I don't think it's our place to make any unilateral decisions about where to store the letter without consulting the rest of the party. And the current plan, as I understand it, is to always keep it on one's person. Maybe we could figure out how to make that a more secure holding spot tomorrow, though." Ula will watch Soriah's reactions closely, to try and figure out why she's so set on this. [insight 21]
When Douglas gets out of bed, Ula winces in sympathy. "Shared quarters don't make for the most restful of, well, rests. Hopefully you got at least a little sleep."After Douglas emerges from the water closet and asks about Shape Water, Ula shakes her head. "Sorry, no. I'm not much of a magician. What were you thinking to use it for?"
When the board is in place it's very difficult to see. There's a 3" space under the floor that look to be where the pipes run. It does look like a good hiding place but when you mention not keeping the envelope there you see a flash of anger across Soriah's face for half a second before she regains composure. You wouldn't have seen it if you hadn't been looking closely.
As you're talking to Douglas she 'accidentally' bumps into you and you feel a tug at the pocket where you had it before.
Douglas replies to Ula' question,"I was going to put the item we are to guard in a bottle, seal the bottle with packed earth and wax, tie a string to it and to a dagger, put it all in the bathing tub a seal it into the middle of a three foot by five foot by five foot high block of ice. But I forgot I didn't learn that spell before I found myself, well here, so I can't do that. Shame really hard to chip through one and a half feet of ice or move a bathing tub with that big of an ice block. Anything happen while I slept?" Douglas explains in a rambling way with articulated hand gestures towards the things he is talking about.
Imra touches his chest, "I'm Imra. I like to think I can at least keep myself alive, but I'm no boaster. You all looked a confident lot, and my old man always told me to seek the advice of confident people."
The tall Goliath looks at Gashrak and his companion, offering his hand to shake, "I'm new to this town, and I've never meet folk like you two. I apologize if I've stared too much."
He looks in the direction the pair was walking, "You have a job? What job is that? Are you hunters? It's a little late to go looking for game.... or too early, depending on how you look at it."

Flint struggles to maintain his headlock on the burly man, bumping in to a few others in the room in the process. A little tavern brawl doesn’t really concern him, he had been through more than his fair share of fights in the past including a turn in the pits at the Greasy Weasel.
“What’s the big idea cutting my pack? You picked the wrong guy to steal from. Where is it?” Flint looks around, trying to see if he can spot his pack, or if he can spot any of his companions he can call out for in the crowd.

Gashrak chuckles "No big deal. People here are from all over and many have never seen Dragonborn before. I'll bet a lot of 'em have never seen anyone like you either" He looks like he's debating something in his head then finally "Yeah, we've been hired to recover something. We don't really know what it is but Lilli here" indicating the figure who drew her shortsword "will sense it if she's within 30' of it. We need to take it before the ones who have it manage to hand it off. We've been told that others will be trying to take it first. Things could get dicey. It wouldn't hurt to have a bit more muscle on our side. You'll get a share if we're successful. Just so you know, I'll be getting two shares as will Lilli. If we're successful, there will be plenty for all of us. Come on. Walk with us. If you decide you're not interested by the time we get to the Copper Dragon, the two Outfitters are just a few blocks further in the same direction"

He struggles but can't break you're hold on him.
"That was yours? What was it doing on the floor? I almost tripped over it!" he shouts at you angrily. You don't see your pack but you do spot Soriah at a table, surrounded by a small crowd. She looks distraught and is being comforted by a large, broad shouldered human male wearing a polished breastplate and light brown cape. Suddenly behind you you hear Theran "Let go of him NOW!" she shouts at you.

At the sound of Theran’s voice behind him, Flint releases the burly man and raises his hands. He wants no trouble with the bartender. “I’m not looking for trouble, but someone cut the straps to my pack. I don’t aim to be stolen from.” Flint looks around again looking for his pack, he also looks for the woman that first caught his eye when his pack was cut. He wonders to himself, was she still at the table, was she in on this attempt?

Ula listens attentively to Douglas's explanation, nodding along as he describes what his plan with the ice would have been, but keeps watching Soria out of the corner of their eye. They freeze when they feel the tug at their pocket, then quickly shoot out a hand, to grab Soriah's arm before she can retreat. (Not sure if this counts as a grapple or something else, but here's athletics 9 and acrobatics 9)
"I don't know what kind of jobs you've worked on in the past, friend, but wandering hands aren't particularly good manners among crewmates." She looks up, meeting Douglas's eyes but not loosening her grip. "Either Soriah here is feeling a little overly friendly, or she's trying to make a grab for a particular item in my pockets. Either way I'm not too pleased."
Imra and Asledin follow Gashrak and his crew. In addition to Lilli, they meet 'Roach' a rather slovenly Halfling male, River a longsword wielding female Tiefling wearing chain and Arden, a bald male Drow in black leather armor.
"The job is simple, and not so simple" Gashrak starts out "There's something at the Copper Dragon that some folks have in their possession. We have to find out what it is, who has it and relieve them of said object. Lilli here can sense it if it's within 30' of her. I know someone willing to pay 10,000gp for it and probably more"
It's explained to you that Lilli is a spell caster, Roach is a Master Thief and that Gashrak and River are the 'muscle'. You are told Arden has 'special talents' but nothing more about him. Gashrak also explains there are at least three other interested parties.
The seven of you reach the Copper Dragon.
"Probably best if we act like we don't know each other" Gashrak tells you "Mingle with the crowd and be on the lookout for anything suspicious"

She looks at the other man. "Ogden, what's going? Did you try to steal his pack?" she asks him
He acts offended by the accusation "I didn't try to steal anything!" he insists "It was laying on the floor and I almost tripped over it!"
Theran looks around "What happened to it? Where is it now?
You see the young Half-Orc that Ula pointed out earlier. He has your back and arms full of your stuff "I saw Ogden kick it. I couldn't see who took it from there" he tells you, giving you your belongings "by the time I had caught up with it, someone had dumped everything on the floor. That's everything I could find"
"Thank you Dash" Theran tells the young man who then heads back to work.
You look over your belongings and don't find anything missing. Oddly, there's a vest mixed in with your things. Theran examines the pack. She holds the cut ends of one strap together, mutters a quick chant and the strap repaired. She does the same with the other strap "On the house" she says, not looking happy "I know Ogden. He's a regular here. I don't think . . . " she starts then she looks up, eyes wide

Soriah manages to break Ula's grip on her by hitting them in the face with the lantern she's carrying and bolts for the door, smashing the lamp on the floor in the doorway behind her, blocking Ula and Douglas from following easily. She leaps from the stairs, into the crowd below, surprising everyone downstairs, especially Soriah who is watching from the table on the other side of the Dragon.
Douglas smiles and casts control flame cantrip drawing the flame from the oil up about a foot into the air and four feet to the side of the door to allow Ula to easily follow. He holds the fire there as it burns itself out from lack of fuel.
He shouts, "Thief! Thief! Thief!" At the top of his lungs.
Imra nods at Gashrak and then pulls Aesledin to the side, far from the quintet of thieves, then looks at him, keeping his voice low, "So.... recognize the job description?"
"I sure do,", Asledin replies quietly, "We'd be in a good position here. I'm thinkin' we play along, if no one grabs the letter, all's well, but if they do, we might be able to retrieve it.". Flint thanks the half-orc for retrieving his pack and gear. The good news is at least everything appears to be there. He begins to mumble an apology to both Theran and Ogden when Theran’s eyes grow wide and he follows her gaze to their room on the upper floor. He stares in shock at the flames surrounding the door and the sight of Soriah leaping to the main floor.
Glancing quickly between the two Soriah’s, one leaping from their room and the other sitting at a table across the room, he springs into action as he hears the shouts of “Thief” from the room above. Flint moves to the Soriah who jumped from their room and attempts to grab and restrain her to find out more answers.
