Thont joins in with, "Yes. Huh"
Um, can I give a go to guess phases of the moon based on Survival? Also, does the current phase seem represented? It may surprise no one that this isn't Thont's forte.
Survival: 12
((One last meta-thought... could we label the images ABC... for easy, non-image guessing?))
Kathra listens to Mirabel's definitely in character description of the solution, looks at the wall, looks back at the discs, and shrugs. "Seems as good of a guess as any."
It's obvious to you that the Full and New Moon symbols go on the ends. If the rune you have symbolizes the Three-Quarters Moon waning from Full, like Nana Ironeye said, then the symbol that is already in place must represent the Half Moon waxing to Full, which would mean that Mirabel has the right of it by setting the Full Moon icon (C) to position seven and the New Moon icon (D) to position three. Beyond that, you are unsure.

"The mongoose blew out its candle and was asleep in bed before the room went dark." —Llanowar fable
I share my limited observation with Mirabel and continue smile and nodding.
((Sorry, one thing I was getting at was if the phase the moon is likely at or near outside corresponds with one, so in case we need to push or click it or something once they're all in place.))
((Not that Thont isn't secretly worried that doing so may send an energy bolt down and destroy another village building.))
Gavin tells Maribel “I am happy that we have someone as smart as you with us. If you need someone to insert the discs, I trust you know what you are doing and volunteer. You may be smart, but I am familiar being knocked on my arse.”
((So, 1-8, not counting #5, and A-G based on the line of symbols you've collected, what is your final answer and who is putting the disks in the niches?))

As Mirabel places each of the disks in turn, your all hear a small pop of a spark and the hum of energy in the room begins to rise. As the last rune finds its home, a web of spectral energy arcs from one disk to the next, causing the silvered rune designs to glow with power. The hum reaches an almost painful pitch as energy sputters and sparks. clearly something must be broken or out of alignment. Everyone has a split second to dive for cover as arcs of colorful lightning ripple through the air, carving a burning path across the stone of the mosaic tile floor.
Energy Arc attack vs. Dex Save DC (15): 11 Radiant Lighting damage, save for half.
Gavin's Dex Save: 1
Kathra's Dex Save: 16
Mirabel's Dex Save: 3
Peren's Dex Save: 8
Thont's Dex Save: 24
Rhudall's Dex Save: 19
As the arcing continues, two of the runes (F and B from slots 2 and 4) pop out and fall to the ground, smoking slightly. When this occurs, the energy arcs cease and it becomes tentatively safe to move about the room once more.
((Man, that was rough. Advantage really saved Kathra's bacon there as the second d20 roll was a 1.))
"Shoulda gone with my first instinct." He coughs, and a spark of electricity arcs from his mouth to the floor.
((I took 9 thanks to being a bronze Dragonborn, but are we rounding halved damage up or down? I went with up for now but am only too happy to take 8 damage instead.))
“Owwwww” Gavin picks himself up off the ground, his hair smoking and looking pretty frazzled (think Doc from Back to the Future). “Everyone ok?” As he starts checking his comrades for signs of life.
((Someone forgot his phone today and it was meeeeeee))
Mirabel stares at the discs, then back at the console, then at the discs again.
"Huh."

In a very convincing and definitely in character way, Mirabel describes a possible solution.
((Assuming the images of the discs are sequentially labelled A, B, C, D, E, F, and G))
1-E, 2-A, 3-D, 4-F, 6-G, 7-C, 8-B.
Kathra listens to Mirabel's definitely in character description of the solution, looks at the wall, looks back at the discs, and shrugs. "Seems as good of a guess as any."
Thont is very impressed with the confidence, and lacking any faculties to in any way comprehend any alternative, smiles and nods in approval.
For Thont:
It's obvious to you that the Full and New Moon symbols go on the ends. If the rune you have symbolizes the Three-Quarters Moon waning from Full, like Nana Ironeye said, then the symbol that is already in place must represent the Half Moon waxing to Full, which would mean that Mirabel has the right of it by setting the Full Moon icon (C) to position seven and the New Moon icon (D) to position three. ((Not that Thont isn't secretly worried that doing so may send an energy bolt down and destroy another village building.))
((Oh, my bad. The moon was nearly full last night, so it will likely be full tonight.))
After some consideration, Mirabel suggests that the positions of the discs in 8 and 2 be switched.
Kathra has absolutely no idea, and says so.
Mirabel puts the discs in as follows:
1-E, 2-B, 3-D, 4-F, 6-G, 7-C, 8-A.
As Mirabel places each of the disks in turn, your all hear a small pop of a spark and the hum of energy in the room begins to rise. As the last rune finds its home, a web of spectral energy arcs from one disk to the next, causing the silvered rune designs to glow with power. ((Man, that was rough. Advantage really saved Kathra's bacon there as the second d20 roll was a 1.))
Kathra groans as she smokes slightly. "I'm getting tired of being electrocuted by weird shit."
She looks over at the others, who do not appear to have been so fortunate. "Everyone still alive?"
((If only I'd remembered to use advantage last time I got zapped))
Mirabel falls over, smoking slightly.
((On the one hand, it does entertain me that Mirabel, who was right up close to the blast, managed to critically fail his save.))
((And sure, round down to 8....wait, why are we rounding down to 8? Half of 18 is 9, there is nothing to round.))
((Mirabel's a sorcerer, not a mathematician))
“Owwwww” Gavin picks himself up off the ground, his hair smoking and looking pretty frazzled (think Doc from Back to the Future). “Everyone ok?” As he starts checking his comrades for signs of life.
((Oh right 17 is my Max HP, not how much damage I took))
