"You can lift the balls and turn it if you want. Actually loading it is a no go."
"Actual practice shall be left to the simulations and when you all get a chance for a mission."
They start to cross the open deck, leading you through a quarters then a room with a chair at the center.
"The helm of the ship, where the pilot flies the ship. Designated pilots have their own quarters, which we just went through."
"While the spelljamming helm can be affixed anywhere, this is the norm for the Hammerhead. The other room connecting here would be the charts room, containing astral charts and worlds maps concerning the mission."
Zaridil's ears twitch nervously. The simulations were a good start... but I'd have preferred to practice with the real thing, before jettisoning forth into the unknown, he muses.

Hi there! I'm a Christian musician based in Canada :)
Mirelda was deaf and blind to anything unrelated to the spell jamming but despite permanent excitement had the same concerns Zaridil did. "So... We will be allowed to fly the ship right after we are done with simulations? No practice or apprenticeship?"Maybe "concerns" was a bit too strong a word. She did not decide yet if she liked or hate the idea.
"To actually be assigned as pilot for any mission shall require you to be a sailor or higher. And cadets get promoted once they are done with their basic training."
"But that don't stop from getting a chance at some missions, mostly just means you'll get lower priority missions, less dangerous ones. And the situation can always change where we may need a cadet to fly."
"Besides, simulations will mostly take a month of your training. And please do take it seriously, if you die in the sim then you also faint outside of the sim."
"Anyway enough of that, last stops on the tour would be the stern and fore castle of the ship. Both holding the weapons, above right now is the stern, holding a mangonel and the fore, having a ballista. We've already seen the mangonel so we'll be heading to check the ballista next."
Muck takes all the talking in stride as he is somewhat familiar with sailing on a spelljammer, though being on the Hammrhead is a bit of a thrill as it is a lot different than the galleons he used to serve. He pays particular attention when they go over how to use the weapons as he had never been allowed to before.
[OOC: Down in San Diego over this weekend for my daughters soccer tournament so my posting is a bit more lax than normal.]
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
As she tries to follow Bellona notices the moontouched shortsword on her belt. She snaps her head up and looks around to see if anyone is near her that could have done it. She whispers to herself.
Beshlog blissfully hoists a ball up, judging the weight and just how much damage this thing would do on a hit. Using magic and shooting stuff with giant balls of metal... how could this job get any better?
"Hey Warren," the giant says with a child-like smile, lightly tossing the ball of condensed destruction to the dragonborn. "How long do you think it will be before they let us actually shoot these bad boys? I'm already itching to try it out... but I suppose all things do come to those who wait, or something like that."
Kip notices Bellona straying away from the group, "Cadet, please stay with the group, the tour is almost over." The two officers make their way towards the forward castle. The open deck has an elevated platform with a giant crossbow attached to it. It swivels easier than the catapult from before along with its ammunition being javelins.
"The ballista is the option for the closer ranged targets. Only needing 3 crew to fire it effectively. It also helps boarding attempts as you can fire chained ammunition, helping slow and drag the ship to ours."
"I'd advise not climbing the chain as the enemy crew may break it off, leaving you hanging onto the chain."
"But it makes for a hell of an entrance if you manage to pull it off."
"And that is the end of the tour, if there's any questions about this ship, we will answer them."
"If you all are heading out, then don't forget to turn in your caps at the checkpoint."
For Bellona and Adam:
You both can see the same hobgoblin officer start to walk away from the dock.
(The hobgoblin is on a nearby dock, not on the same ship you are on. At your distance, it is very hard to discern what the bottle was as it seemed the exchange was discreet towards the workers on the dock.)
Warren last minute catches the ball of condensed destruction, as he was a bit distracted with wondering what Bellona was doing. He's nearly knocked backward by the weight of the thing, but he manages to keep his footing. Shrugging it off, he smiles at the giant, "Well, they did say we'll get to try 'em out after we finish our trainin with the sims. Hopefully we can get through that quickly. Heh, i'd love to get some target practice in myself. ...some say that, but i'd say ye get just as many things by grabbin em when ye get the chance." He tosses the ball back to the giant. "Patience is one thing, ye don't get no colt's trained without haven that in yer toolbox, but waitn' ain't my game if ye know what i mean."
"You ain't wrong," Beshlog says, catching the cannonball and tossing it from hand to hand a couple times before setting it down in the pile. "Waiting around might be smart at times, but it sure ain't the most fun thing to do. But hey, in the meantime we're gonna be goin' through the sims, and if the next batch are anythin' like the first then we're gonna have a hella' good time with that!"
(Surprised you two wanna play catch with a 100+ lbs cannonball)
With the ship tour done, the last objective would be the obstacle course held on the gymnasium level. As you head for the stairs down, the security guards at the checkpoint stop you all for a moment, asking for the cap provided for the ship tour.
(Will be advancing in a short while, giving a bit more time to see how Adam and Bellona deal with their situation.)
Bellona will approach the worker watching how he reacts as she does.
(I assume you mean the hobgoblin officer?)
The officer doesn't show any interest in much until it becomes clear that she's coming closer to him. He raises a brow, "Yes?", he says and gives Bellona a once over before spotting the blue cap, "Ah, a cadet, do you need directions?"
Bellona will give him a smile. Speaking in a quiet voice.
”Yes I had a question about the bottle concealed in your pocket. A platinum is a lot to pay for smuggled goods and I want in on whatever it is you have going on here. I’m certain you would like this to remain on the quiet side and I can respect that.”

Unhappy that the market got rid of individual purchases for one-off subclasses, magic items, and monsters?

(Small enough to fit into a pocket upon his person.)
