Gil begins skirting around towards Renn carefully and slowly so as not to attract attention, he lets the others throw stones so that the beast fixes on them rather than himself or the gnome.....if he makes it safely to under the gnome he will whisper to him to let go, then catch him and tell him to head back through the brush.
Morgran lets out a great roar (rage) as he pulls out a greataxe and ferociously charges the owlbear and strikes it with his greataxe. (I won't get instantly killed as long as I'm raging)
Morgran charges the owlbear, attracting its attention and keeping it from approaching the others, and his great axe bites into its hide! The others are barraging it with more stones as well. Finding itself facing a determined foe, and now quite wounded, it gives a strange barking chirping roar that conveys frustration and turns to run away!
(I tally 58 damage so far)
Round 1
Burt - threw another magic stone
Parth - threw another magic stone
Renn - cowering
Morgran - charged with his greataxe
Owlbear (injured) - running away!
Gil - sneaking to the tree
Morgran, an opportunity attack is available to you.
Morgran in his rage cuts the animal down as it turns to flee. It collapses to the ground and breathes no more.
Renn very tentatively climbs down from the tree, and without so much as a thank you, he retrieves his broken bug-catcher net and then goes over to examine the felled owlbear. You see him pluck (with some difficulty) several of its feather-hairs and stuff them in a vest pocket.
[[as an aside, a good dm would award exp even if the owlbear had run away. Not to say what Morgran did was particularly wrong, he was raging after all]]
“Hey Renn, we will have to consult the jungle souvenir table in the boat to check the price of these feathers! The owlbear is the jewel river’s property. Just so that you know.” Burt cries out as Renn pockets the items. “You also need to talk to the captain to ask for permission first if you wish to harvest the jungle’s flora and fauna.”
Rollback Post to RevisionRollBack
Sorry, I'm beginning to enter a vacation period and while I will try to check-in at least daily, I cannot promise that I will always be able to do so. From September 1, I should be back to normal.
Renn, wide-eyed, looks up at you and his hands stray to the pocket where he stuffed the items as he mumbles, “I don’t remember the captain mentioning anything about souvenir fees… that could throw a monkey wrench in the whole operation… I mean why would I even bother coming on this trip unless… but maybe I’ve enough coin anyway and it won’t matter… we certainly want everything to be above-board, no question…”
Focusing more on your next question, he says, “What was I doing? Looking for specimens, of course! There are some rare flowers growing in this meadow, I need to collect them for further study, and anyway where there are rare flowers there could also be rare insects. Have you seen any??”

Stealth:5
The owlbear staggers under the surprisingly effective blows of the magic stones as it charges you.
[speed 40 means even with 2 crusher feat hits it can still close to melee range without dashing]
