OOC: The character is built using someone else's account. I can't give her access, but I can manage it for her until we get to a town, then we can switch to a character she creates using her own account.
As Kitryn crouches over Leek's prone form, waiting for the gnome to get back on his feet, she notices movement at the top of the passage, where Leek fell from. A goblin stands at the top of the ledge, trying to stay hidden in the shadows. It holds a scimitar and a shield while looking down at Kitryn, Leek, Erenaeth and Rindelk. As it realizes it has been seen, the goblin turns to flee to the west.
OOC: Kitryn and Rindelk rolled high enough perception to be aware of the goblin. Each of you can take one ranged attack before it disappears. From Kitryn, the range is 33 feet. Range is 36 feet for Rindelk.
Note: I moved Kitryn back to Leek... as she would have noticed this before moving up.
The character sheet changed recently, so it reads a bit differently now. Under the spells tab, there is a column titled "HIT/DC". That column will tell you what your To-Hit modifier is for your spell, or the Difficulty Check to avoid spells that are not "To-Hit".
When you roll a spell attack, such as Fire Bolt, you have to add your To-Hit bonus to your D20 roll. So for the above roll, it should have been 4 + 4 (to hit) = 8. Still a miss, but that's how the mechanics work.
Obviously, the goblins in the west end of the cave complex are aware of your party (the goblin escaped to the west/left).
I looked at Kitryn's options and she has no ranged weapons unless she throws (and loses) her dagger. So I'm going to assume she doesn't (we can backtrack if that's not the case) and I'll move her back up the tunnel path and we can continue exploring.
Kitryn roll a perception check to for the new chamber you are seeing for the first time.
Katerielle is so flustered by her first real life and death situation... seeing Erenaeth with a stomach wound he's stoically enduring, and now Leek dazed and hurt from a fall, you just can't remember anything pertinent to this area, these caves or goblins.
Kitryn on the other hand, has come into her own. The crashing of the waterfall echoing around in the chamber actually helps her get a feel for the shape, size and even the location of foes within it. She also feels their anxiety, anticipation and fear. They know you are all coming and will not be surprised.
OOC: Battle is not started... This is more like a standoff. They are defending their ground, not taking the offensive. You guys are all spread out. Make your plans, and either move your tokens or tell me where you want to move.
ooc: are we going forward as a group? waiting on heals/berry consumption to bring hit point back etc..
the air is palpable with violence. Kitryn is staining to hold her stance at the base of the stairs until the others arrive.. she thinks 'i can't attack on my own, neither shall these goblies blindside my comrades without resistance'
OOC: I've spoken to several players individually and everyone is busy with summer and stuff. But I've gotten enough direction from everyone to move this forward.
Leek will eat enough berries to recover his HP. He had offered some to Erenaeth during the ambush, but I didn't keep track, so I'm going to rule that Leek has 1 more berry left for the day. Leek will then move up to be able to use his sling as a ranged attack.
Erenaeth (I'm coaching the new player, I suggested the following) will move up and do ranged attacks with longbow.
Rindelk will cast firebolt from range
Katerielle will shoot her crossbow from range
There are 3 goblins and they are aware you are coming. No surprise round. They are behind 3/4 cover (they gain extra 5 AC) and are wielding swords and shields. They are waiting for you to come to them.
I will roll for everyone's initiative to get this going:
I will give the Erenaeth player the chance to post her move before doing Goblin A and B. Then Rindelk, Kitryn and Katerielle will all go before Goblin C.
SITUATION:
The water flowing down the tunnel is about 1 foot deep, but it counts as difficult terrain (movement cost doubled to step into a difficult terrain square). The first large pool feeding the stream has had the rock barrier destroyed and been drained. The second large pool is full and overflowing into the first. The tunnel walls are natural and jagged and can be climbed. Climbing is an Athletics check and costs double movement. The climb up to the bridge is 20 feet, so it will take anyone in the party 2 "turns" to climb it.
I will rule that if you want to climb to the bridge before starting the attacks, it would happen before initiative kicks in. DC is 10 to climb half your walking speed. If you roll a 1-4, you fall. If you roll a 5-9, you don't make any progress. So you can potentially start your first attack on the bridge, if you wish.
LEEK'S ACTION:
Leek has had enough of climbing. He will move S4 and attack with his sling, then move back to Q3 to get out of the way.
Climbing is an Athletics check. Your modifier is +4.
Just so you understand the mechanics: Climbing costs double movement. You have to climb 20 feet, so it will take 2 checks. If you roll a 1-4, you fall. You take 1d6 bludgeoning damage for each 10 feet you fall.
I will allow you to do both checks at once... IE: I'll say you decided to climb before initiative was rolled. But once at the top, you're in the initiative order.
OOC: The character is built using someone else's account. I can't give her access, but I can manage it for her until we get to a town, then we can switch to a character she creates using her own account.

Since everyone is rolling perception, I will roll History, see if I can recall anything from this region.

I would move towards the group, in the back, and ready my bow.

Nice rolls. You are now on the bridge. Goblin B and C went before you. They were just yelling waiting. You can go.
I will continue shooting my sling at the Goblin at U5. Once he goes down, then I will move up and start to go after the one at V7
