Bilyur begins walking toward the end of the dungeon, towards the portal for the next one. "I will enter the portal, count to sixty, and attempt to return here. I recommend you guys count to one-hundred-twenty. If I have not returned by that time, it means I cannot return the way I came. You may do with that information what you wish, however, I would be highly thankful if you would all continue this journey with me." He will then step through the portal and begin counting to sixty."
Awesome, you step into the portal and reappear in a 10 foot long, 15 foot wide dingy chamber. There is no door behind you, though there are two doors to your left and right. The walls are panelled with curious dark green wood planks, and on the far side of the room stands a lime green armchair, its leather ripped and its stuffing falling out. Either side of the chair are two bookcases built into the walls, picked almost entirely empty of books, however a few tomes still remain on the shelves, lying on their side or pressed up against lone corners. This room marks the first of the second dungeon in the Blood Archives, the Eternal Botanist’s Hold.
The Eternal Botanist’s Hold was a keep the famed High Elf Druid Evaltrini kept in the harshest and most impassable wastelands of Tyraa. She retreated to this gardeners paradise years ago in search of a spice to cure mortality itself and hasn’t been sighted since. Rumoured to be within these decaying halls is a herb that Evaltrini cultivated carefully over her many years of solitude. Even a single leaf can sell for thousands, though no mortal truly knows the properties of the herb, as the only place it grows is here, and there has yet to be a soul that escapes the Blood Archives alive.
Sly groans inwardly at having to deal with an unconscious person, but her inner moral compass isn't damaged enough to be able to ignore Aria. The studious tiefling bends down and picks up the unconscious elf, then carries her to the portal.
The wizard nods appreciatively as Bilyur volunteers to enter the portal first and waits the suggested time before following him.
She waits until any others have gone first before following. Still carrying Aria.
Eggo Lass groans, though understands, as Aria gets carted along and heads into the portal after Bilyur. She casts up a Dancing Lights to illuminate things for others. [[ Though since you described things as visible, assuming there's torchlight again so that may be unnecessary I'm guessing. ]]
Sly enters through the portal, carrying the mirror elf. Seeing the entrance room of this new dungeon and no immediate dangers, she will prop Aria up against the back wall, away from the arrival area and not too close to the doors.
"Were the circumstances different and more books present, I might consider this positively cozy.", the wizard muses, straightening her robe. With detect magic still up, she gives the room a scan. Then she heads over to the shelves, trying to read the book covers without touching them.
You detect no magic coming from this room, and when you examine the book shelves you find the following tomes:
The Legendary Watering Can: A children’s novel about a green dragon’s magical watering can that can bring plants to life. Pots Fit For Gods: A Guide to Dwarven Ceramics: A book on dwarven-made plant pots with maps showing the forge locations, though you don’t recognise any of the realms. A Plant Ate My Husband: An Eyewitness Testimony: The autobiography of a women who spent most of her life in a court battle trying to claim insurance after her husband was eaten by a shambling mound on an adventure. Unfamiliar Dirt Scents and what they mean: A handy guidebook to different dirt smells. Three chapters spanning 138 pages are just discussing the word 'moist' Houseplant Necromancy for the Incompetent and Guilty: What at first appears to be a spell book is actually just gardening tips on how to keep houseplants alive longer A Guide to Poisonous Berries: Berries are not included. The Greenhouse from Hell: A universally hated horror novel where the greenhouse turns out to be a mimic, which caused disaster when the stage adaptation tried to stick as close to the source material as possible. A Flowerspotters Handbook: Is in fact a painting guide for pixies looking to decorate flower petals, and provides numerous intricate spotty patterns. Trowels, Spades and Shovels: Tales from a Green-Fingered Gladiator: The inspirational story of a fighter that killed hundreds using only gardening equipment
The last book stands out to you though as its genre does not match the rest of the topics on the shelves, it being a copy of The Turtle of Tyraa, a folk story explaining the supposed history of the land, and as a child all of your characters would have certainly heard at least one variant of the numerous translated versions of the tale.
[I had far to much fun and spent far to much time coming up with these books lmao]
Sly examines the titles with interest. "Whoever occupied this demesne, they were obsessed with botany." she says aloud for the benefit of the others. The wizard takes both Pots Fit For Gods and Houseplant Necromancy from the shelf, stowing them away in her backpack for personal reference. Her own houseplants did tend to droop despite being cared for, and whoever would speak out against pretty pots?
That last book intrigued her as well. Taking The Turtle of Tyraa from the shelf, the tiefling first inspects the cover for oddities, then, if finding nothing out of the ordinary, starts perusing the contents.
You find nothing particularly striking about the cover, and as you leaf through the details of the story become clearer in your mind as you remember. In the take, the land of Tyraa is represented by an enormous turtle (some say this is a metaphor whilst others still believe that they actually are living on the turtle shell). The turtle had a perfectly smooth shell, as polished as a mirror and without any imperfections. But soon, humanoids sprang from the earth (some say it was the elves first due to their longevity, others say the dwarves due to their ties with the land, but it was most likely humans) As the humanoids interfered with the perfect land they lived on, imperfections began to form on the shell. Cavities and cracks were bored into it as they went mining, forming caves, and wars caused great spikes of shell to shoot into the sky, forming mountains. The turtle weeped, for the humanoid kin had spoiled its natural perfection, and closed its eyes to sleep through the terrible nightmare it had been subjected to. And so the turtle lays dormant, even to this day, as the world continues to march forward, chipping away at the shell until nothing will be left.
Upon confirming that it is indeed the childrens story, Sly becomes pensive. Who was the person that lived here? Why did they have this book in the shelf? Moreover, why were these the books that remained here?
She is absorbed in the book, but gives the others to understand that she will be ready to move on if they see fit.

[It’s fine. Though I’m trying to move my dnd book acronym knowledge from 3 to 6 :)]
[I completely forgot that Asriech was a triton]
[No problem, Asriech’s race is 100% a minor detail that will definitely never come up again or have any influence in the campaign at all :)]

[That is a Suspiciously Specific Denial that I don’t believe.
I’m writing that Asriech is a triton somewhere.

Hugh waits, checking the wall the ooze slipped off of. (Investigation 5)
If he finds anything, he will quickly show it to Sly, and then walk to and through the portal.
