The god of portals is long thought to be dead, the husk of his body embedded in the spire below Sigil. But, something has changed. Portals throughout the planes have begun to act strangely, and still believing devotees of the dead god have begun to receive powers. When the portals start causing havoc, the Inter-dimensional Threat Prevention Society (IDPTS), an adventurers guild based in Sigil, spearheads the effort to restore balance. They call upon heroes from all worlds, and one of those heroes…is you!
Hello friends,
I won’t bore you with how I got the idea for this campaign, but suffice to say, if you want to play a PBP game, but you don’t have enough time to post every. single. day! Then this is the game for you. In RoA:PP, you can pop your character out and in at any point of the game, whenever you’re online and in the mood too. The in game reason for your character randomly popping in and out of existence is the crazy portals that are everywhere! This will be a chill game designed for everyone to enjoy.
Now, if that sounds interesting to you, let’s get on to the application process: I would like you to list the following information, keeping the following things in mind:
-All official materials are allowed to build your character. Home brew is allowed and encouraged, but please put it in your application so I can approve it
-Use Point Buy for your ability scores
-You have the option of one of the following extra things to add to your character:
A bonus feat
A magic item of your choice (note, depending on the current level when you join, this magic item may need to be adjusted to a different item). The rarity of the item should be in tune with your preferred starting level (IE, 1-4 is uncommon, 5-10 is rare, 11-16 is very rare, and 17-20 is legendary)
Some other thing of your choice that must be approved by me
Application Format
-Character Name and Pronouns: please try to not do a dumb name. This is a chill game, but not one for joke characters. And all pronouns and sexualities are welcome here
-Character Race and Subrace (if applicable)
-Character Class and Subclass: Multi-classing is allowed. Build your character to level 3 for now
-Character Background and Backstory: the backstory can be as long as you want
-Preferred starting level and why?
-Bonus thing: tell which one you chose, if you did choose one. (See above)
Recruitment is ongoing, simply put an application here and you will be accepted (NOTE: after the date of July 13th, 2024, you need not put the preferred level, as the game will have started by then)
If you have any questions, let me know!

Hi, I'm Raccoon_Master, a young genderfluid actor, writer, explorer, and bass vocalist. Pronouns They/Them/Theirs
My Characters: Brorminthe Devout Crusher; Morgrom the Cunning Summoner;Theathe Rebellious Beauty;
Character Class and Subclass: Sorcerer, Concentrated Chaos (the lore about the shattered won’t really apply here, and this subclass has its own wild magic table but if I can’t find it we can just use the Regular wild sorcerer one. Also, here are the extra homebrew spells on the table: Instant trap, overpowered aura, dream delivery, chain of pain, and https://imgur.com/a/1hp5vBG (red death rune, couldn’t find it on DDB)) sheet coming soon!
Character background and Backstory: Outlander and Backstory!
Wybie is cursed. There is something latching on to his very soul that is slowly transforming his body. The essence of his doppelgänger, a living doll made to replace him when he was stolen by fey as a child, a Weschelkind. But before that, he lived with his adopted mother, Sister Scarlett the Annis Hag, as well as his adopted siblings of three pixies, two redcaps, and a troll. When he was old enough, he started to help his mother with her business of selling potions and ingredients across the feywild. He loved this because it allowed him to travel all throughout the wonderful woods and beautiful hills of the fey. One day, however, he was confronted by a masked figure who told him, “he wants his life back.” Wybie was confused, not sure what they meant. Then, he began chanting some sort of spell, grabbing onto Wybie’s arm. Wybie ran back to his home as fast as he could, yelling for help from his mother. Before his mother could intervene, the figure caught up to him and knocked him to the ground, beginning to cast the spell again. Just as he was about done casting the spell, Sister Scarlett interrupted the spell with a hex to corrupt the casting. The spell still functioned… somewhat.
The figure’s essence took control of Wybie’s body as it’s former one, which he later figures out was a Weschelkind, falls to the ground. after a few seconds, Wybie regained control of his body. But the essence of the figure never left him, and now that it’s no longer in control, it’strying to take control in a more direct way. Wybie’s left hand began to petrify, turning into carved wood. Sister Scarlett stopped the petrification, but his hand remains cursed. The next day, he figures out he has suddenly developed some very unpredictable version of magic, figuring out after nears falling down the stairs and then being stopped by levitation, before being promptly thrown to the ground. His mother and him start working together to try to teach him how to control his powers. Eight weeks In and in a magical mishap, he conjures a portal and is sucked in, arriving in the streets of sigil.
Six months later, and he hasn’t found a way to get back yet. So instead, he tries to find a way to get some money. Thus, he tries to join the guild, thinking he might be able to use his magic to help!
His hand curse is a monitor of how much his chaos surge threshold has grown. In moments of extreme sadness or regret, it leaves a door open for the Weschelkind to try and gain more control, which spreads the curse further up his body. this, so far, has not happened yet.
Preferred starting level and why: I like level 5 or 3, gives access to level 2 or 3 spells which gives you more freedom in your choices and also just makes the game more fun when you aren’t as fragile.
Bonus thing: broom of Flying! He got it from his hag mother.
His mentor was an observer of extraplanar phenomena. For 270 years he served his mentor faithfully, as a student, and adoptive son. He was taught magic, but all good things must come to an end. When he was 270, his mentor conducted an experiment to breach a plane he had theorized about: The Mirror Realm. The experiment successfully opened a portal, but Ghauru was sucked in and spit out by some strange force.
Changed in body and soul, Ghauru emerged with crystalline skin, an alien weapon, and a ludicrous growth in magical power. the portal also made his mentor ill which led to his demise 2 years later,
-Preferred starting level and why? I prefer level 11 as that's when characters get access to awesome items and spells.
-Bonus thing: tell which one you chose, if you did choose one. Free feat (Tough)
Question: How do you handle hp? Average or rolled?
I may be the only one who thinks this, but in my opinion the current push to give sorcerers more spells is incorrect. They should not have many spells, because they essentially invent their spells from scratch, which clearly is not as efficient as the wizards. A sorcerer cannot learn to cast spells, either from a master or from a book. Only through experimentation. But, precisely because their invent their spells, I think they should have metamagic apply to all their spells. For example, a sorcerer who "invents" a mage armor spell could naturally develop it in such a way that it lasts twice as long (Extend Spell) or can be cast without verbal or somatic components (Subtle Spell) and that's how he casts it every time.
So, the Metamage (working title) is my homebrew subclass for Sorcerer which is exactly the same as Draconic Sorcerer, except that all his spells automatically benefit from any metamagic he knows, and there are no sorcery points because there's no limit. I don't know how to create that here on the forums...
-Character Name and Pronouns: Akh’faern
-Character Race and Subrace (if applicable): High Elf
-Character Class and Subclass: Sorcerer - Metamage
-Character Background and Backstory:
-Preferred starting level and why? Prefer to start at level 5 or higher, but can do level 3 as well. Level 5 is a major boost in power.
-Character Class and Subclass: Druid, Circle of Moon
-Character Background and Backstory: Noble
Many know the tale of Asgorath, or Io as the Dragonborn call him. He was one of the first dragon gods in existence, and when he fell from grace in the Dawn War, his corpse split to two divine beings, Tiamat and Bahamat. However, few remember the tale of his significant other, Inthean, Goddess of Nothing. When Asgorath perished, so too did Inthean's immortality, as she was stripped of the power from greedier and stronger beings looking to take Asgorath's empty throne. This didn't stop her dedication to her lover. She used the last of her power to create an island in an unexplored part of the map, a tree that grew nearly infinitely tall in the center, soon to be named the World Tree, as its roots reached the worlds very core. This Island became a safe haven fore the mortal goddess and her followers, along with old followers of Asgorath. Over the centuries, they climbed this tree, a majority settling at the very tip. A civilization was formed, its might and very name striking fear in empires. the Highlands.
This is where Cerberus's story, and life, begins. The monarchy of Highland is rumored to be descended from Inthean (and possibly Io) herself, holding and passing her power through generations. The current Queen, Ea, does nothing to disprove these claims. Her very appearance says so. Draconic horns and scales on an elven face whiter than snow. Prior to having her first child, the Aasimar warrior Thalia, Queen Ea had led a battle that left the opposing sides on the brink of extinction. Other Nations were frightened by this event, and forced Ea to sign a treaty saying Highland shall not take part in war, and her forces cannot enter the territory of others. Years had passed since this event, and on a rather cold day, Cerberus was born.
Around this time, the rumors surrounding the Royal family had taken a dark turn, saying Queen Ea's mother was Tiamat in disguise, or the original royal family was killed and replaced by aspects of Tiamat. However these rumors started, they caused a certain cult to rise and follow an ancient prophecy. The cult in question called themselves a rather basic name, the Cult of Tiamat, but oh how they did change Cerberus's life. They believed him to be Tiamat's grandson, and within this prophecy, a summoning must happen, with the grandson of the Scaly Goddess as a sacrifice. Well, part of him. 'His silvery tongue shall release the Dragon from her bounds, and let her lay waste to the world' as it went.
They took this quite literally when they kidnapped a barely day old Cerberus from the Palace and chopped off his tongue. The ritual began, but was soon ended by an enraged Queen. She annihilated the cult in the span of a night, and took her now mute son back to his room to sleep. Thank goodness for Sign Language.
Over the years of his growth, Cerberus took lessons from proclaimed masters, but found himself to be a failure in most except gardening. His elder sister bullied him for this. "A true king must succeed in everything he does, or else he fails his country," Thalia would yell at him during their sparring sessions, in which she always won. He took these insults to heart and accepted the belief he would be a terrible leader, thus making him fail even more in his classes.
In Highland, the transfer of power can happen in one of two ways. The first is death, where the eldest living royal takes the crown. The second is when the current ruler has a third child, in which they retire and give their position to one of their two eldest children. On Cerberus's 16th birthday, the latter happened, as Queen Ea announced she will soon give birth to a third. Cerberus, who after hearing this, planned to wish his spiteful and arrogant sister congratulations on being ruler, was shocked by the news that he would take his mother's place. In his mind, he was a failure in everything he tries, and can't even speak for himself. Why choose a failure over a warrior who is a master at everything she tries? Why choose him?
Cerberus, his brain racing with thoughts of confusion and self hate, ran away that night, stealing a boat and rowing to the main land. He promised to himself he would return when he is worthy of being there, when his mere presence doesn't mess things up.
-Preferred starting level and why? I don't really have a preference, but I'll say 5 because that's a quarter of level 20
This looks super cool! I'm not sure how online I can be, but I was told to apply even if I wasn't sure, so here I am! Super concept, its great being able to take breaks and things.
Just a place holder for now, I'll edit this when I have more character ideas.

Long live the dragon slayers, long live the spider guild, long live the forums.
I want you to know. You are going to lose. You are going to lose badly. You’re going to lose badly and it’s going to be awesome.
-Character Name and Pronouns: probably Sir Robert (He/Him)
-Character Race and Subrace (if applicable) Human (Not variant)
-Character Class and Subclass: Probably Fighter or Paladin. I'd have to look into subclasses
-Character Background and Backstory: I know this sounds ridiculous, but I hate backgrounds. Usually I just grab like 10gp and one skill and call it a day, they just feel so confining. The basic background gist would probably be: An Evil knight who turned good, and now wants to do good deeds to redeem himself from his past mistakes. But I'd have to write it out
-Preferred starting level and why? 5 or below. Gameplay just feels kinda ehh at higher stuff
-Bonus thing: tell which one you chose, if you did choose one. (See above) what the heck does this one mean?
Character Class and Subclass: Sorcerer, Concentrated Chaos (the lore about the shattered won’t really apply here, and this subclass has its own wild magic table but if I can’t find it we can just use the Regular wild sorcerer one. So...you want to play a dragon sorcerer, but better? Imma have to ask that you refrain from playing that class, though I'm sure if you look in the Homebrew section of DDB, you can probably find some great "metamage" subclasses focused on metamagic. Let me know what you find!
-Bonus thing: tell which one you chose, if you did choose one. (See above) what the heck does this one mean?
Sorry if the character is kinda simple
Listed under the section about applications, I provide some parameters for characters, and under the parameters I say you can have one extra thing to add to your character:
"-You have the option of one of the following extra things to add to your character:
A bonus feat
A magic item of your choice (note, depending on the current level when you join, this magic item may need to be adjusted to a different item). The rarity of the item should be in tune with your preferred starting level (IE, 1-4 is uncommon, 5-10 is rare, 11-16 is very rare, and 17-20 is legendary)

If you would rather not deal with the added complexity, that's fine, you don't have to add it if you don't want to.

If not pls help I have no clue what that is
Point buy is an alternate stat creation method in the Players Handbook. You can find it on the same page as normal ability scores. If you want, you can use standard array though

Bang! Bang! Maxwell's silver hammer came down upon her head Clang! Clang! Maxwell's silver hammer made sure that she was dead
-Character Background and Backstory: Mercenary Veteran
Zeren was born and raised in Sigil. Ambitious and avaricious, he signed on with a Yugoloth mercenary band and joined the Blood War for fame and fortune. A clash with a group of Demons and Undead pledged to Orcus transformed Zeren into a Dhampir, which he finds to be a blessing far more than a curse even if it comes with a gruesome hunger. With his most recent contract ended he's returned to Sigil and joined up with the IDPTS's efforts hoping to find opportunities for more loot.
-Preferred starting level and why? 3, 5, or 7, enough to get PCs on their subclass for 3 and a bit more power for the later classes.
-Bonus thing: tell which one you chose, if you did choose one. (See above): Magic item, which one will be decided once the campaign's starting level is decided.
Since Fighters are way more gear-dependant would it be possible to start with more gold for buying nonmagical gear if we start at higher levels?
Would it be alright to use DiceCloud to create my character sheet since I don't own the books on DNDBeyond to create a full character?
-Character Race and Subrace (if applicable): Redead
-Character Class and Subclass: Grave Domain Cleric/Divination Wizard
-Character Background and Backstory: Was born into slavery, died in slavery. Secretly practiced divination because was paranoid. After death, rose to become the champion of Hades (HES CANON IT SAYS SO IN THE PHB) and was unleashed back onto the Material Plane. That’s the extreeeeemely short version
-Preferred starting level and why? 12 or higher because clerics lvl 10+ are crazy

-Bonus thing: Bonus feat (Fiendish Resilience)
Hi, I’m DrakenBrine, here’s my Sig and characters
I am The Grand Envisioner!
Bang! Bang! Maxwell's silver hammer came down upon her head
Clang! Clang! Maxwell's silver hammer made sure that she was dead
Subclass looks cool, glad to have you apply!
I would ask that you find or create a DBB homebrew then share it with me for the purposes of reviewing homebrew. Thanks!
Go with average HP
So...you want to play a dragon sorcerer, but better? Imma have to ask that you refrain from playing that class, though I'm sure if you look in the Homebrew section of DDB, you can probably find some great "metamage" subclasses focused on metamagic. Let me know what you find!
Listed under the section about applications, I provide some parameters for characters, and under the parameters I say you can have one extra thing to add to your character:
If you would rather not deal with the added complexity, that's fine, you don't have to add it if you don't want to.

This seems really cool, also happy 4th y'all
Just checking before I start making characters, but point buy is the standard 15,14,13,12,10,8 thing right?
If not pls help I have no clue what that is
Point buy is an alternate stat creation method in the Players Handbook. You can find it on the same page as normal ability scores. If you want, you can use standard array though

*I'll look into the point buy to see how it works, tho i mayy just use standard array*
I did find a metamage and its not what I had in mind but it will do: https://www.dndbeyond.com/subclasses/66474-metamage
Are you good with it?
Not to get into it a ton on here, but standard array probably should be the standard not alternate

Clang! Clang! Maxwell's silver hammer made sure that she was dead
-Character Name and Pronouns: Zeren Gulov He/Him
-Character Race and Subrace (if applicable): Dhampir
-Character Class and Subclass: Fighter (Hellspur subclass).
Wooh, almost everyone is using homebrew! This is gonna be fun.
-Character Name and Pronouns: Calliste, They/Them
-Character Race and Subrace (if applicable): Redead
-Character Class and Subclass: Grave Domain Cleric/Divination Wizard
-Character Background and Backstory: Was born into slavery, died in slavery. Secretly practiced divination because was paranoid. After death, rose to become the champion of Hades (HES CANON IT SAYS SO IN THE PHB) and was unleashed back onto the Material Plane. That’s the extreeeeemely short version
-Preferred starting level and why? 12 or higher because clerics lvl 10+ are crazy
I’m a decent DM and an above average rules lawyer
I have several complete Pokedexes | I may be stupid, but at least I’m not smart!
Stay Paranoid!! My Drummer given title is… Swift as the Dragon
May the dice roll ever in your favor
*so would we be allowed to use a full homebrew class or are we just going with homebrew subclasses/races if we want to homebrew? *
*I think you can use basically any homebrew but I’m of course not the person running this. Out of curiosity what were you thinking of using?*
* kinda looking at this class, https://www.gmbinder.com/share/-N2sxvtwUq2yfMInJ1yD *
*feels pretty interesting to me and I like how it plays atm*
