You take a quick look outside just in time to see three fire giants walking your way, accompanied by 2 enormous hell hounds, being walked by two of the giants by iron chains.
Gogglesswears in a Thieves' Cant so nobody knows what he said, and then awkwardly jokes 'Guess diplomacy won't really be an option, huh? Looks like we should just fight them head on and defend, though I'll need a hiding spot somewhere to make the most of my skills. I can strike all the good points in an opponents body if they aren't specifically defending against me. I say I'll stay in the house and shoot them with my crossbow from out a window. That way they won't see me so I can strike them better, but even if they are aware of where I am, I can steady myself to get a better aim and shoot those integral vital points!'
[Gnome, are you okay with Goggles having the optional Steady Aim feature from Tasha's? It's on my sheet but just wanted to check because it's optional]

"............anybody got any potatoes? We could drop a potato in each hole an' see which ones get viciously mauled by horrible monsters?"
Rova puts the cheese wheel down somewhere and unclips her handaxe from her belt, leaving the spear attached to it.
"WHO'S READY TO FIGHT?"Rova shouts with a smile on her face. This is something she can handle, something she's trained for, this is far better than stumbling around trying to open little boxes. This is a fight.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Goggles nods and says ‘If I can keep a steady shot with my shortbow from the window, I’ll be raring for a fight! It’s just a shame I don’t have that many arrows,’ he muses, showing his quiver containing 20. ‘I don’t know how hardy those hell hounds and giants are, but I may need a few more. Does anybody have some to please spare?’ He then goes to the window and takes aim, ready to fight.
Corrin reaches for her Greatsword, getting it ready so she can grab it at a moment’s notice. It had been too long since she last fought something and she could use this outlet for her pent up emotions, but this fight also had an added layer. She was fighting to protect this giant and her children, and she knew she would die before she let these others get close to them. She spared a quick glance at her party members, before squaring her shoulders and readying one of her spells.
Dangar throws out a ball to enrich the plant life around the house, slowing the giants just a little bit as they get closer, perhaps just enough to get time to get yourselves ready for their approach! Ignis looks at you all and pleads to protect her children as she pushes the box back over the trapdoor to the basement, looking angry and scared.
Outside the house, the giants bellow as the hell hounds begin to bark and snarl loudly, pulling toward the house:
"Search the house! Leave nothing unturned!"
A few moments later there is a terrible smash and cracking sound as the barn room is busted through, and the cattle inside begin to panic, running about trying to get out. Ignis grabs her sword and charges out to meet them. The commander sneers, saying to his comrades,
“Go find the children—they must be hidden here somewhere.”
He looks to Ignis with a nasty grin and declares,
“Lord Invido will honor me when I bring him back his heirs.”
(Combat started!)
Dangar

Corrin
Goggles
Rova
Giant leader
Giant A/B + hounds
The leader is in front of the house, the other two are circling around the house while the hounds sniff things out.
Goggles looks out from his window and aims to shoot the Giant Leader in the knee with his shortbow, getting down on one knee to steady himself.
Bonus Action: Take Aim: Advantage on next attack roll and movement becomes 0. Action: Shoots the Giant Leader with his shortbow with Advantage: 22 to hit, 5 piercing damage + 20 sneak attack damage for 25 damage in total.
[Do you want me to keep track of my arrows? I'm assuming you do, but just checking]
OOC: What is the speed of fire giants? I only ask because Plant Growth would reduce their movement to a crawl. For instance, if their movement is 40 they could only move 10 feet. If they dash, they go 20 feet. But the area effect is 100 feet. So it would take a few rounds to get to the house. I only argue because I'm trying to get our ranged PCs shots before they close. In the end, it is your game so I'll go with your ruling. Just have to rethink my strategy if Dangar also doesn't have a few rounds to cast.

[The giants 'outside the house' should still be at least 10 feet from Goggles when you consider their size and the space of the window and wall. They won't be pressed up against the homestead close enough to give him disadvantage on range so he should be able to attack just fine. If they do go smashing through the house after him though, at least he has mending lol]
And casts Erupting Earth for 8 centered on the leader DC 15 Dex save for half. The ground becomes difficult terrain on top of the Plant Growth.
Then he hides behind the corner of the house because DANG giant adventurers are big!
I'm going to say the giants are already going through difficult terrain because of the plant growth, so the effect will not hamper them further, but they can certainly take the damage.
[I mean technically *pushes up glasses in the most obnoxious way possibly* the plant growth isn't difficult terrain (which adds one foot for every foot moved, commonly misinterpreted as half movement) it's quarter movement, 4:1, so the difficult terrain would stack on top to add another foot penalty to their movement so they would be moving at 5 feet of movement for every 1 foot they travel.
But you're DM so what you say goes, everyone hates a rules lawyer so I'mma shut up lmao]

When they are 130 feet away Dangar will open the ball with Plant Growth centered on their group.
