Backstory• Luce Bree’s family was killed when he was a child. There was a raid on their caravan as they traveled through dangerous lands. By the will of the weave Luce was found by some Dragonborn monks on a pilgrimage. They raised him from a young age, teaching him their ways both in kindness and in battle for the protection of good. They instilled a love for the world around him, and an understanding of the balance between life and death. Combined with his past, Luce learned there is no life without death…..
Most wouldn’t even notice the wood elf standing to the side in the shadows. Those who did wouldn’t think much of him. He was a fairly slender elf, dressed in a smoke grey tunic. With a pouch on his waist and no weapons or armor to be seen. He intently watched the battles, and the crowd…… awaiting his opportunity to test his skills in this arena.
So we choose 1 basic armor, weapon, and spellcasting focus regardless of what our starting equipment gives us, or do we choose it from the starting equipment?

Tentatively assuming a 'yes' here,
Name: Lerquel, Hunter of Mages
Race: Human
Class: Barbarian
Background: Haunted One
(Optional) Backstory: When he was a teenager, his tribe was attacked by a warlock, on the bidding of its master. He and his siblings, sister Rae and brother Teri, were tending to their family's horses when it attacked, and fled on horseback from the creature. They reached a nearby city and begged for help, but by then it was far too late to do anything about it. They swore revenge on the warlock and its demonic master. Rae struck a pact herself with a Celestial, and Teri wormed his way into the local underground to try to track down the warlock. Lerquel opted for a long-term solution: his philosophy can be summed up in two words: "Do damage". He plans on finding the demon who sponsored the warlock and hacking it to death himself. When he heard of an arena where death is cheap, glory can be won and connections can be made, he came here immediately. He plans on training here, then eventually using his newly-made connections to hunt down the demon and kill it with his own hand.
Character Summary: Bright-eyed, battle-hungry, and barely taller than his twinblade, Shadow Bean barrels into danger like the opening verse of an epic. He’s got a temper like flint and dreams spun from bardic ballads—fighting not just to win, but to become someone worthy of myth.
Backstory: Shadow Bean grew up on road dust and tavern tales, but nothing stirred him like the exploits of Drizzt Do’Urden. He sewed his own "drow cloak," painted his blade silver, and began practicing brooding in the rain. Still young, still wide-eyed, he fights with reckless hope—believing every clash might be the first stanza in his own saga.
He would only have his,
Clothes/Costume: A deep-indigo cloak pieced from sailcloth and stitched with handmade constellations. Mismatched boots slap the dirt—one leather, one soft for “stealth.” His breeches are patched to mimic underdark style, and a battered twinblade hangs from a too-large belt. A strip of polished tin dangles from his wrist, meant to “signal the moon.” It’s uneven, homemade, and a little too earnest—but in motion, it almost looks like legend.
Weapon, Common: Twin Blade, Proficient: Yes.
Attack Type: Melee, Reach: 5ft.
Damage: 2d4
Damage Type: Slashing
Weight: 5lb.
Cost: 50 gp
Properties: Finesse, Two-Handed
Source: Heliana’s Guide to Monster Hunting: Part 1
Twinblades are martial melee weapons; double-bladed polearms that rely on the user’s dexterity to keep them in constant motion. They have the finesse and two-handed properties, and deal 2d4 slashing damage on a hit. They also have the Special: Whirl property.
Special: Whirl. When you are wielding the twinblade in two hands, you can use a bonus action to attempt to whirl the weapon. To whirl, make a DC 10 Dexterity check, adding your proficiency bonus if you are proficient with twinblades. On a success, you gain a +1 bonus to your AC until the start of your next turn, the whirling blades acting as a barrier against attacks. On a result of 15 or higher, you gain a +2 bonus, instead. On a failure, you deal slashing damage to yourself equal to your proficiency bonus and gain no bonus to your AC from the whirl this turn.
Shortbow & Arrows: His only weapon—a simple, well-used shortbow with a quiver of arrows.
Studded Leather Armor: Custom-tanned to a deep, nearly black shade, fitted close to his feathered body, blending with the night.
Backstory (Optional): Kirian Shadefeather grew up on the misty edge of ancient forests, born to a rare line of dark-phased great horned owlin. Even as a fledgling, he preferred the challenge of hunting at night, mastering the art of moving unseen and striking without a sound. Now newly of age and on his own for the first time, Kirian sets out to test his skills in the wider world. Armed with only his dark leather armor, a shortbow, and his wits, he takes small jobs as a scout, tracker, or night watchman in quiet towns—or shadows his way into riskier work when coin runs low. The nickname “Nocturne” is only a rumor, whispered by those who’ve caught a glimpse of his silent work. For now, Kirian’s legend is just beginning; he’s ready to prove himself, one perfect shot at a time.

Luce approaches the grue to secure his entry to the next fight. “Hail, be well met on this day. I come to test the challenge of this trial.”

Zed approaches Grue.
“ I’m willing to participate in the next match, if it pleases you.”
He turns to Luce and says
“Hail, fellow elfkin. Would you be interested in a partnership? You seem to have what I am lacking in physical ability.”
Luce offers an hand shake,
”Indeed Zed let us concour this challenge together.”
Hi, would like to join the fun.
