[OOC: With the telepathic link that Vazo'yn has established would Riven know about "Perhaps the most shocking revelation of all, however, is that whenever Otbium uses an ability, the bubble surrounding the nearest pillar dims before brightening again with its protective energy."]
Everyone is acting at the same time during a round in-game. We can assume is communicates it if he is willing to do so when it is his turn, which I am sure he is happy to do.
Randa's arrow pierces the bubble and reaches Otbium's flesh. Immediately a skeleton-like soul leaps from the bubble surrounding him and enter Randa's body before she the second shot leaves her bow. The second arrow flies and veers hard to the right as Randa forgets how to take any kind of actions. She shakes her head free of the tormenting soul.
Otbium burns with divinity now, light pulsing from his skin, one hand a blazing crimson, the other a void. The earth cracks, and even the dead seem to stir at his presence. Riven narrows his eyes.
He draws a breath through his nose and releases it slowly, steadying the bow in his hands. He traces a path between himself and the heart of Otbium’s an invisible tether lashes out, unseen by most, but felt as he steadies his aim. It strikes Otbium’s chest and anchors there. Not a mark of flame or shadow, but a glowing sigil. It leaves behind a faint green glow pulsing allowing Riven to focus on his target.
He exhales and lets the first arrow fly.
Riven’s hand sweeps low, gathering a thin spread of dried pine needles, bits of broken stone, and bone fragments kicked up by the wind. He slams the arrowhead into the dirt. The gathered debris lifts, flying shards and splinters toward the false god.
Bonus Action: Hunter's Mark Action Long Bow [24 to hit]; Damage 15 (Piercing) + Dread Ambusher 11 (Psychic) + Hunters Mark 5 (Force)=31 Action: Conjure Barrage DC19 Dex Save 33 (Force) + Hunters Mark 7 (Force)= 40 Wisdom Saving Throw 1: 16 Wisdom Saving throw 2: 28
Giles prepares himself for a fight with at God. [Superior Defense: resistant to all damage but force for 1 min]
He will then charge at Otbium, careful to avoid the runes on the ground, jumping over if he can. If he can't avoid it, so be it.
He will then engage!
"I have no use for titles. I find them overrated, like Gods..." the dwarf says, smashing his fists together. He then opens up one fist, palm out facing his opponent, and strikes.
Attack 1: 24 dmg: 26 [FYI used a luck point on attack]
Riven strikes out and the arrow bursts through Otbium's bubble, wedging into his body. Otbium's body lurches forward and contracts the muscles in his body, causing the arrow to explode. Another soul from the bubble leaps into Riven's body and, despite his best efforts forgets how to fight. The second action is prevented as Riven stumbles forward, trying to force his mind to remember how to be the apex predator he has shaped himself into being. Clarity finds him again quickly, thankfully, but the moment of Otbium's vulnerability is lost.
Otbium looks to Giles and sizes him up. He sees the wrapped hands and sturdy body, shaped to perfection even in its state of advanced age. Otbium grunts in the barest hint of respect. Then he stretches his neck to either side and rolls his shoulders. "Would you like to try for the title?" Then he squats down into a xebu, or empty stance of the Long Fist, his void hand in the willow position and the crimson hand taking on a crane position out to the side. Otbium turns the willow hand supine and beckons at Giles in a respectful taunt.
DM: Riven's first attack is successful. The second attack fails (if you used a spell slot for that second, please recover it). Giles, it is now your turn.
[I posted, it's right above your last post. Timing issue for sure!]
LOL you were writing it up while I was lol. If you want to treat the post as if mine had gone first so you can respond to the RP side, feel free to edit in some flavor to your post while I work out the attacks you did.
Giles rushes in and the two exchange a series of attacks. Giles strikes out with punches and kicks, while at the same time blocking punches and kicks from Otbium. The mad god seems to enjoy the exchange until Giles sweeps his legs, knocking the god off balance. As he shifts his weight to maintain balance, Giles strikes him hard right where the liver would be. This causes a compulsive protective, collapsing response. Otbium resists the urge to fall into the fetal position, but he is entirely exposed. The skeleton ghost flies into Giles at the fantastic shot, but he dismisses its influence on him as easily as he would an unwanted drink at a tavern. Then Giles presses the attack. As Obtium favors his left side, using his right arm to protect his liver, Giles pounds at his face and body with a series of kicks and punches. Otbium responds with a blocking kick that pushes Giles away. Otbium uses the moment of reprieve to take a deep breath.
"Oh... you are good." He gathers the blood that wells up in his mouth and spits it out onto the ground. "Wow. Okay then."
Otbium prepares himself to engage with Giles again, now with the intention to take the fight very seriously.
Vazo'yn can hear the sounds of battle raging around him, the Fellowship bravely stepping forward to face down an incarnation of a mad Betrayer God. He trusts his companions and their ability to undertake this impossible task, so he keeps his attention focused on the role he must play.
He quickly retrieves a potion from he bag and downs it, feeling its protective magic bolstering him and preparing him for the battle ahead.
Then, with grim determination, he reaches out to the prison of souls in front of him. He calls silently to them with a whispered promise to free them from their torment. He wordless asks the jailed spirits for their aid against their captor. Aloud he begins an incantation of unravelling, his words and mind tugging at the threads of the Weave to unmake this spell of binding.
Bonus Action (I believe potions are Bonus Action in 2024): Drink Potion of Invulnerability. Action: Dispel Magic on the bubble in front of him. 19 Charisma check if needed.
I may have him teleport and move depending on what happens.
DM: It seems that the use of potions are a Magic Action (Cast a spell, use a magic item, or use a magical feature). Potions of Healing specify in their text that they are Bonus Actions. The Potion of Invulnerability does not, so we would default to the general rules on this. You can revise your action economy in light of this information if you wish.
Using a Potion. Potions are consumable items. Drinking a potion or administering it to another creature requires a Bonus Action. Applying an oil might take longer as specified in its description. Once used, a potion takes effect immediately, and it is used up.
Vazo'yn tugs at the threads of the Weave wrapping around the pillars, using the souls of those harvested from the mass death that Otbium has caused. The bubble in front of him vibrates from his casting. It increases in vibration until it reaches a speed so rapid that it becomes a blur. Then, it bursts, leaving the pillar exposed.
Otbium's head snaps over his shoulder, looking right at Vazo'yn. "NO!" he shouts, followed by a curse mortal ears should never hear. He leaps into the air directly at Vazo'yn, but a shadow self splinters off and travels slightly south and up.
DM: Giles. You get an Attack of Opportunity if you would like.
The shadow stops, 15ft in the air, and then bursts into even more shadows. These shadow selves of Otbium fly at every nearby creature (Giles, Lily, Shadowwhisk, Jack, Joy, Air Elemental, Randa, and Vazo'yn). They strike at you with shadowed limbs that seem ethereal, but have a physical impact. A left and right hand, formed like spear heads, lance at your obliques, then two hammer punches down on your sternum, and finally, a powerful uppercut with the elbow to the xyphoid process, winding you. The strikes carry a divine power, which shakes you to the core.
DM: Please make Strength Saving Throws, DC 22. On failure, take 58 Piercing Damage, split into five living pieces of yourself, fall Prone, and are unable to stand until you receive magical healing. On success you are unharmed and not prone.
Anyone who fails splits, and are blown out of their own skin, literally. Their bodies fly into distinct sections of skin, muscle, bone, internal organs, and nervous system, all connected by magically charged viscera that somehow allows anyone not killed by the strike to still live.
DM: Otbium next move will be influenced by whether anyone fails the save, so I will wait for that outcome.
As the god leaps away, Giles aims a punch at this ribs.
29 dmg: 12
"Where are you going?" he says.
He'll use another focus point to attempt to stun Obtium.
The target must make a DC 21 Con. saving throw. On a failed save, the target has the Stunned condition until the start of your next turn. On a successful save, the target’s Speed is halved until the start of your next turn, and the next attack roll made against it has Advantage.
Everyone is acting at the same time during a round in-game. We can assume is communicates it if he is willing to do so when it is his turn, which I am sure he is happy to do.
Not all cookies crumble. Next turn will be better, I am sure.
