Character Name: Riiza Alowind
Species/Class (Subclass): High Elf/Cleric (Arcana) hopefully 2014 subclasses are allowed, if not I can switch
Background: Scribe
Backstory (Not super long, please): Riiza used to be an evil wizard vying for power. After years of terrorizing locals from atop her tower, she was taken down by a group of adventurers who made the decision to not kill her and instead bring her to a remote temple of the god of magic to be rehabilitated. She spent decades with the nuns learning to channel her magic through divine means and learning to be a better person. After struggling with herself and her magic for many years, the temple has deemed her ready to leave and reenter society. Riiza is hoping to do some good in the world despite this going against all her instincts. Where she had caused chaos in her relentless search for power, she is now hoping to prove to the temple (and herself) that she is deserving of the mercy the adventurers showed her.
Why your character is coming to the dungeon (1-2 sentences): As a cleric of the goddess of magic, she is searching for historical texts and objects of power for research for her temple (and secretly, to make herself powerful again).
If there are multiple groups, would you like to play in the same world or a parallel one?: Either is fine by me!
Class (Subclass): ranger/monk(I have not picked a Subclass)
Background: scribe
Backstory (Not super long, please): During Hiles’s childhood his nose was always in a book. His early education led him to work in the Lord's manor as a scribe. Hiles would make friends with everyone that takes to him. One of the Lord guards offered to teach Hiles how to fight. Loving to learn, Hiles jumped at the opportunity. Along with learning to fight, Sir Hamart taught Hiles to tap into his understanding of the world to harness the power of nature. Wanting to explore the world that he had only heard about from books Hiles decided to travel. Hamart told him about an unexplored dungeon that would give Hiles a chance to test everything that he learned. Not able to hide his excitement, Lord Taross agreed to let Hiles go to explore the world.
Why your character is coming to the dungeon (1-2 sentences): To test himself and prove that he has mastered the skills that were taught to him.
This sounds fun. Have wanted to have a 2024 PbP going.
1 Question for ancient languages. How vital is this to the story - would a Warlocks’s “read all languages” work as written?
Character Name: Leo Saber
Species/Class (Subclass): Human / Sorcerer 1 / Warlock 1
Background: Charlatan
Backstory (Not super long, please):
Artifacts are big money. The world before this world is all that matters now, and if you want power then you need artifacts. The only problem is … how do you get artifacts if you’ve got no power? If you’re not brave enough to delve the hidden and dangerous ruins that Hecate left behind?
Thats’s easy. You buy them from people like Leon, and you try not to think about why someone would sell such life-changing treasure, especially to someone like you…
For a while, Leon’s life was good. But since his arrest for counterfeit sales of artifacts, it’s been a little harder to conjure his smile. Still, his sentence is light … his only worry is that it will be all too short
Why your character is coming to the dungeon (1-2 sentences):
Leon has been sentenced to make up for the fake artifacts he sold by delving and contributing to the real discovery and recovery of true artifact. Once he has found as many as he is sold, he will be a free man. Unfortunately, he was a good salesman.
Species/Class (Subclass): Elf (Drow)/Wizlock (Short for a wizard and a warlock)
Background: Sage
Backstory (Not super long, please): They are a drow, born to the caves. Their linage of family happens to be different though, belonging to a part of the caves with light colored rocks, that happens to have the occasional glow. These drow aren't in typical land humanoid skin tones, or typical drow skin tones; they have pale skin. These drow also happen to be away from any sort of spider influence, instead, they have snakes. (Family history (Ngl kinda like some of my personal family history (I mean cuz light skinned for a dark race (Half Indian with the Indian side being clearly Indian but kinda pale for Indians... why did I even say this here?)))
Alsgure has created a room of his own, for his studies. Studying snakes, magic, history, and the art of healing. Alsgure frequently got bored, and so they created a familiar, Sepyl, a large hooded snake with pure arcana making up part of it's body. They study with that snake, learning how to live in the caves and so on. So the twenty-two year old drow resided there, learning magic, and what to do, with a companion for the loneliness. (They are a sage wizard)
Absent magic awoke in him, the force of the gods. Sepyl was made of arcana, though the arcana that snake had included godly magic. Alsgure had that magic infused with them, so they gained a bit of the magic. Nothing much, just shields and creating temporary followers, or firing that pure arcana out and letting magic flow onto the ground from their hands. They began to study that magic, sometimes it backfired; That is, until it didn't. They soon went out the cave to adventure, calling themself The God of Serpents, despite having nowhere near as much power as a god. In fact, not even a demigod, and some might argue that they are worse that a normal mortal (They are their own patron trope warlock)
Why your character is coming to the dungeon (1-2 sentences): They want a party to join them after being so lonely, and they wish to adventure. They also need new studies, to become more powerful, and to find out how an adventure feels like.
If there are multiple groups, would you like to play in the same world or a parallel one?: Parallel seems better
Species/Class (Subclass): Dwarf Barbarian of the World Tree
Background: Farmer
Backstory (Not super long, please): Vraegan was once the caretaker of an ancient magical tree deep within the Stonespine Mountains, the most recent in a long line of ancient stewards of the Old Oak. But, as all sites of great power do, the Old Oak attracted many a dark creature. Vraegan, unnaturally clumsy due to a broken leg that never set right, tried to run from the dark horrors, but to no avail. As the creatures cornered him, he tripped over a root of the tree. Sprawled on his back, he looked up into the boughs of the tree which he called home. He heard the call of the earth and wood, and reached out, claiming the power of tree and becoming its champion. With mighty power, he fought back against the monsters. The battle was fierce, and the turning point came when the creatures managed to destroy the tree. The magical essence of the tree fled, and Vraegan found himself possessed of a great rage, the tree he had sworn to protect destroyed, and in turn decimated the creatures of the night that had invaded his home. As the dust settled, he looked out from his mountaintop perch, and saw glowing wisps of the tree's spread across the land. Knowing what he had to do, he set out from his grove, in search of reclaiming the essence of his beloved tree.
Why your character is coming to the dungeon (1-2 sentences): Vraegan has tracked some of the essence to the dungeon the party will explore, intent on finding it.
If there are multiple groups, would you like to play in the same world or a parallel one?: The world seems interesting, and I think the possibility of running into another group in the dungeon would be super fun!
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Looks interesting, so rolling stats: Ability scores: 14151371014
I once ran a cleric with a 3 dex, but that was in AD&D days, when stats were 3d6 in order. More recently I had fun with a melee cleric that had 9's in both STR and DEX (but used wisdom to attack).
1 Question for ancient languages. How vital is this to the story - would a Warlocks’s “read all languages” work as written?
A warlock would be able to read all languages not covered in the 'Curse of Tongues', which is in that link in the initial post. In short, anything created in a dungeon or dungeon-fied thousands of years ago can't be read no matter what, and most people assume that gods are toying with how magic works. This is mostly so the plot doesn't resolve at Level 5 with 'I cast Comprehend Languages' ending any and all intrigue. And also I want y'all trying to decode these languages manually to be at least an option for a sidequest, which again gets hard-countered by some usually niche spells.
It is possible to get information directly from your patron, provided they're old enough and willing to talk, but good luck.
Backstory: "I'm telling you it was a girl! I didn't take anything! Ask that guy!" pointing at Harold Stonecutter.
Corgan is being forced into the dungeon because supposedly he stole something valuable. Turns out he's not the only one that got framed.
Same world or different would be fine. Running into another party would be interesting but WOW the awesome amount of work that would take if we run into each other. It would be pretty cool though as long as it isn't forced.
Backstory (Not super long, please): Myr had been left in the care of a friend of her parents while they went on an adventure to save others. They never game back. So the cleric friend raised Myr in her temple, doing her best to instill the values of the Silervein family, to be a champion of good and defender of the weak. This is a role Myr takes seriously.
Since becoming a young adult, Myr has been trying to put her teachings into practice, wandering from town to town, doing good deeds. Some try to make use of her naivety to use her, but she's perceptive enough to see though those schemes. But for those genuinely in need, Myr gives her all.
While decently strong, Myr is far from being the strongest of fighters, and she's somewhat clumsy, depending on her heavy armor for protection. While she's good at communicating with people, she's not so good at studies.
Why your character is coming to the dungeon (1-2 sentences): Myr isn't concerned with knowledge, glory, or gold, but those seeking such are in need of protection. Especially those after knowledge (which tend to be squishy). Perhaps there is a particular other member of the team that she is specifically protecting (not that she wouldn't protect the others as well). Looking at the other backgrounds Riiza might be a good fit for that, since she's also spent a lot of time in a temple. On the other hand, if we have multiple groups, we probably want those two in different groups since they are both healers.
If there are multiple groups, would you like to play in the same world or a parallel one?: Either is fine.
I have a barbarian that I've been trying to get into a campaign.
