Background: Farmer (really more of a teamster / animal wrangler)
Backstory (Not super long, please): Dreet-Grenúach's father was a great captain of their clan, but then his father and the squad he was leading were killed in a disastrous defeat. Worse -- his father was accused of cowardice in the battle! (Dreet has never believed this slander!) Dreet's family was disgraced and exiled from his clan. Dreet refused to act as a mercenary, believing that one should fight for his clan, not money. He found a job doing heavy work on the Eldewick estates, far from Dreet's home and clan. But Dreet seethed under this fate, always looking for a way to return to what he felt was his true destiny as a fighter. In his spare time, Dreet helped Sir Hamart train the guards, and Sir Hamart appreciated the challenge that the big dragonborn posed in training. As Lord Taross assembled a group to explore the dungeon, Sir Hamart worried a bit for Hiles, his former student's safety. Lord Taross didn't plan to send any of his trained and loyal guards or knights to go into the dungeon, but Sir Hamart suggested that perhaps they could spare a farmhand: the dragonborn. Lord Taross finally approved and had Sir Hamart outfit Dreet and send him off to the dungeon too. Sir Hamart pitched the proposal to Dreet as "going to the dungeon to keep my student, Hiles, safe."
Why your character is coming to the dungeon (1-2 sentences): Dreet is happy to have finally found a respectable reason to fight, and he's glad to leave behind his work on the farm. He is going to the dungeon to ensure Hiles's (or some other character's) safety, but he secretly hopes to earn honor and glory and -- one day -- to return to his clan and clear his father's name.
If there are multiple groups, would you like to play in the same world or a parallel one?: Parallel, but I'm OK with running in the same world if you want to try it. I just think that it's hard enough to sustain a play-by-post game, and putting dependencies on additional people in one "world," seems like it could be even harder to coordinate and keep going.
Dreet is a front-line melee martial character.
My old barbarian build was based around the 2014 rules and a game where I had one 6 ability score to deal with. I couldn't figure out how to make that personality work with this stat line and the 2024 rules, and I eventually came up with this dragonborn. I could probably play him as a fighter (any subclass) or even a barbarian (because he left his military training early and is still seething with rage about his family's fate). If I'm accepted, I may want to tweak the character build and subclass to fit the party better, but Dreet will be some sort of defender or damage dealer focused on melee.
Not perfect for this character, but the closest I could find without a specific commission:
This one looks like a tough fighter. I imagine metallic dragonborns to be shinier, but that flat frill reminds me of the "head plate" of a brass dragon.
I like the face shape and thoughtful look of this dragonborn monk's face (by JRLewisArt), but it might be more bronze than brass dragon.
Species/Class (Subclass): Human Rogue (Arcane Trickster)
Background: Sage
Backstory (Not super long, please): Corwin was born to a peasant familyand was essentially traded to a wizard as an apprentice due to his quick wits and spark of magical talent. Corwin grew super bored with that life and never applied himself to his studies, he completed his formal apprenticeship and skedaddled as soon as he was old enough, making his was through his wits.
Why your character is coming to the dungeon (1-2 sentences): Basically, he's motivated my the possibility of treasure, and finding lost magic and stuff appeals to his intellectual side.
If there are multiple groups, would you like to play in the same world or a parallel one?: I'm good either way, but think same world sounds more interesting.

Species/Class (Subclass): Human / Sorcerer ( Draconic Bloodline)
Background: Acolyte
Backstory:
About sixteen years ago, a group of cultists offered an orphaned toddler as a tribute to a fearsome red dragon. Little did they know, the "great red dragon" was actually a clever copper dragon in disguise. With a smirk and a swirl of magic, she tricked the cultists and spirited the baby away.
The copper dragon soon discovered that the girl carried a draconic bloodline and a natural gift for magic. Seeing potential, she took the child in and raised her as her own.
Now as a teenage sorcerer bursting with ambition , the girl is ready to leave the nest and make her mark on the world!
Why your character is coming to the dungeon:
She bears the blood of a red dragon, and it's hard for her to resist a dungeon filled with undiscovered treasures.
If there are multiple groups, would you like to play in the same world or a parallel one?:
Species/Class (Subclass): Goliath Bard (Dancer or Lore, depending on team composition)
Background: Entertainer
Backstory: Vogan was born among a tribe made of goliaths and humans that claimed highlands as their home, but left at an early age in pursuit of a traveling merchant, hoping beyond hope to sample more of the exotic spices they'd recently introduced to his people. Though skeptical and a little hesitant, the merchant ultimately agreed to take him along as a bodyguard in exchange, only to later recognize Vogan's potential to be so much more. Several years of travel and training on the road would see V gaining a name for himself as a culinary entertainer/loyal bodyguard or a sort. A loyalty strong enough to lead him to even stepping up to take on his benefactor's debt with Lord Taross, and repay it by aiding with a "little" job...
Why your character is coming to the dungeon (1-2 sentences): Beyond humble curiosity and a favor being owed, Vogan hopes that within the ruins are ancient recipes or unique materials that will take his mastery of the culinary arts to a level beyond any his people has ever known.
If there are multiple groups, would you like to play in the same world or a parallel one?: I'd be down to be in the same world, or if a parallel one is ultimately chosen, I hope there still a possibility of meeting the other groups down the line.
Stat Array: Point Buy
Original Concept was an aasimar. But then... then once I saw the mustache it was over for me. Whether or not the mustache is fake, a curse, or some weird genetic quirk in Vogan's case is anyone's guess!
Name: Marion von Vasa (This is his stage name. He hasn't revealed or used his true name since becoming an adventurer a year ago.)
Species / Class: Human - Bard (1) / Warlock (1)
Background: Charlatan
Backstory: In his mind's eye, he could see her shaking her head in disgust and disappointment as he ran from the crowd. She assisted him with some additional skills in music, speech-making, and certainly magic, but it clearly wasn't enough, at least not yet and not for this village. Well, it wasn't the first time he had to leave a village quickly after his sermons and rabblerousing got him too well-known for all the wrong reasons. Not everyone fully appreciated his insights and some even resented - who knows why - the nominal fees he charged people. Maybe there was a better place to develop and refine his talents, someplace dark with fewer critics, like a dungeon....
A handful of groups have had PMs sent to them (or will be in a minute or two from me typing this). Most groups are 4 people; 22 people have submitted characters thus far (also only two Clerics so healing might be scant). Not every group is finalised, and recruiting isn't closed.
Derrell Emmerson was once the most sought-after coffinmaker in all of his city—and with good reason. His finely carved ebony coffins, inlaid with silver filigree, brought a measure of comfort to grieving families who could scarcely find beauty in death. For years, he ran a thriving workshop on the edge of town, its windows always warm with lantern-light and the steady tap of chisel on wood.
Then came his children. His twins, Maris and Corvin, came of age and insisted on carrying on the family trade. At first, Derrell welcomed the help: he taught them every secret of joinery, every subtlety of finish. But over time, they grew restless for new innovations—steam-powered carriage hearses, crystal-etched nameplates, even enchanted coffins that whispered prayers. They modernized the business, turning it into a profitable enterprise that stretched beyond the city's borders. The workshop’s lantern-light grew colder; the steady tap became the clatter of machines.
Derrell stayed on as master craftsman in title only. Customers praised the twins’ flashy designs; few remembered the old man whose hands had shaped the first masterpiece. He found himself watching from the sidelines, nostalgic for the scent of fresh-cut oak and the hush that fell when a family first laid eyes on his work.
Lately, an ache has grown in his chest—a yearning he can’t ignore. He dreams of traveling the world he’s only ever seen in passing trade caravans: the misty highlands where stone circles hum with ancient magic, the desert ruins rumored to house undead kings, the storm-lashed isles where sailors swear the dead walk on deck. He senses there is one final journey waiting for him—one last story to carve with his own hands, on his own terms.
So at dawn on the morrow, Derrell will lock the workshop behind him. He’ll sling his traveling satchel over one shoulder, strap his old carving tools to his belt, and step onto the road. He goes not to reclaim his business, nor to compete with his children’s machines—but to remind himself what it felt like to create with sweat and soul. One last time, before he lays down—for good.
Not sure if I can still join, but here is a cleric.
Of course you can!
This was clarified in an earlier post, but the 2024 PHB is the only source allowed (plus old Artificer on the conditions of using 2024 spells and updating once the new one comes out this summer) for character creation. Derrell should come out looking mostly the same, if not slightly buffed, though, if you just switch him to 2024 Human and add a background (unless there's one just not showing up on the character sheet).
