The cabbage merchant is deeply grateful. As the party gathers the cabbages up, he looks around to see if anyone is watching and quickly Prestidigitates them clean. “Ah, just as good as new! Thank you, friends. The name is Cai, and if you ever are in need of food, stop on by.”
As a token of his appreciation, he gifts you one freshly cleaned cabbage each. Onlookers approve of the kindness.
DM: Renown of the Fellowship in Bazzoxan increases to 1.
Brother Bombur’s and Ylis’ attention is drawn to the smashed mosaic of stained glass. Based on the metal wires and the color of glass on the ground below, the two can tell that it once depicted a woman’s face on a golden disk: the iconography of Avandra: the Change Bringer. This was a temple dedicated to her.
Randa sees nothing that would be threatening but when Bombur calls out, Randa’s keen ears detect shuffling movement farther into the spiral temple. Approaching footsteps indicate that someone is coming. Someone with a careful gait, but heavy feet.
Morgan also detects it, but the bat only sees the curious glowing fruits. It seems very interested in helping itself to a tasty meal.
Frekor manages to find some broken glass at the base of a once gorgeous mosaic. Before he can point this out to anyone, Bombur and Ylis seem to notice and piece together its once purpose. (sorry but 6 gets nothing :P)
A shadow bounces along the curved wall before its owner. Large. Looming, nearly filling up the entirety of the tunnel, then its own passes around the bend and the party sees that he is nearly as large. A firbolg, draped in hemp clothing fastened with tightly wound hemp rope. He walks with a staff and has a large, kind face.
“Greetings adventurers. I have been expecting you for some time. My name is Foghome. I am a gardener and the caretaker of these plants. I would share what I have but I am trying to help the town of Bazzoxan at the moment, so can you please stop your bat from eating of my crops?” He says, tilting his staff toward the bat feasting on what appears to be a glowing berry of some kind.
Morgan coughs, a little embarrassed. "Hey, come back here!" he calls, trying to control his gluttonous familiar.
Then he turns to the firbolg. "I'm sorry. He's new to this dimension. Hasn't learned good manners yet."
He leans down and mutters to the tiny bat, "At least you could share..."
Straightening up, Morgan gestures toward Jacaranda. "As my companion was... indicating, we’ve traveled a long way to speak with someone who could help us understand this artifact. A lot of signs pointed us here. Can you help us?"

(OOC: I don't know how renown works in D&D, if someone could explain it to me later I'd be thankfull. As soon as I got the 6 I knew that I wouldn't learn anything new, it's all good)
DM: Renown is in the DMG as an optional rule. I am giving it a try. It can work in a variety of ways. Your Renown can give people a more positive impression of you than the standard neutral, which makes them more likely to be swayed one way or another in interactions. Some NPCs will not permit/trust/offer X or Y unless you attain a certain level of Renown with them individually or with their group.
You can gain ranks within orders through Renown. You might get perks like access to a safehouse in a town because you have a level of Renown. You might get offered magical items. You could meet certain person's of authority that you might have to otherwise bully your way to. The benefits are basically limited by our collective imagination here. There are some neat examples of Renown here. The DMG lists benefits being material at +3 and you build them up by being generally helpful to people or organizations.
Foghome raises his eyebrows at being presented with the jewel. "Ah, well, sorry, I was actually kidding about expecting you. People expect that kind of thing from a firbolg, heh."
A quick round of introductions are made and Foghome takes the jewel in his hands. "Hmmm... I sense, something." He closes his eyes and stretches his spirit sense out into the jewel. "Three gods have personally touched this item. Not only have they touched it, they have left pieces of themselves within it. One has awoken, two others still slumber. One is familiar to me. I have sensed it before while meditating. I sensed it within the earth itself." He hands the pendant back to Randa. "I meditate to commune with the Wild Mother every evening. If you decide to join me one evening, I will ask her for more answers. I was meditating just the other night when I felt it. Some kind of surge within the earth. A warm and kindly presence reminiscent of the Prime Deities. I believe that it means that a relic of the Calamity has awoken in Betrayer's Rise." Foghome smiles at the party. "Or perhaps it was really someone announcing your arrival? It is hard to tell, as the gods cannot easily communicate with mortals anymore.
"Consider my offer. In the meantime, I must continue to monitor the crops here. The Taskhand has commissioned my work in an effort to grow their own food. Getting supplies here is often unreliable due to the fiendish invasion. Things are difficult to grow in Xhorhas because of the ancient battle that took place here, but nothing grows in Bazzoxan because, I suspect, of the corrupting influence of Betrayers’ Rise. Nothing at least, except for my plants."
"I will gladly meditate with you," Bombur says. "I'm knowledgable myself in the gods. Who are the three deities who you sense within this gem? What do you mean by 'a relic of the Calamity has awoken in Betrayer's Rise'?"
Ylis is fascinated by the way the temple was turned into a garden.
She looks to see what methods are used to grow things and whether it is just food or decoratives also. It might helpful to know when she decides to use the rest of her seeds.
In the back of her mind she thinks finally some real answers. Getting here was painful.

"............anybody got any potatoes? We could drop a potato in each hole an' see which ones get viciously mauled by horrible monsters?"
"I will gladly meditate with you," Bombur says. "I'm knowledgable myself in the gods. Who are the three deities who you sense within this gem? What do you mean by 'a relic of the Calamity has awoken in Betrayer's Rise'?"
" As will I. The Lady of the Green is important to both my people and myself and I would know more of this weight I bear.", Jacaranda said softly.
“I am but a humble servant of the Wild Mother. Which gods, I cannot be sure, but the feeling their presence gives off is unmistakable. That is, if you can trust my gut heh.” Foghome takes a deep breath and blows it out through his nose as he thinks of his response. “The Betrayer’s Rise was the fortress-temple dedicated to the Betrayer Gods. Their demons were used to defend the fortress against the assault of the Prime Deities. It is a most unholy place.” He says to Morgan. “And to answer your question, Brother Bombur, I wasn’t certain a relic there had been awoken. I just believe that is what I felt yesterday. My communion with the Wild Mother comes in visions and impressions. Never explicit words. So I must interpret everything I see and feel. Given that demons hound us every waking moment as they seek to reclaim Bazzoxan and tear wide the hole between our worlds, I just felt it was a sign. There almost certainly are artifacts in there. The Calamity and all related to it is felt most powerfully here for a reason. Did you know that the Calamity ended here in Xhorhas? Or that taking Betrayer's Rise was a major turning point in the Calamity for the Prime Deities and their champions?”
(OOC: Frekor didn't get very hurt in the fight, only lost 3 THP if I calculated right. Now with the extra 8 THP, he would have 13 THP)

Morgan sweeps a hand across his face like an actor slipping into a new role.
“Pretend you’re explaining this to someone who skipped every religion class.”

“What is this Betrayers’ Rise you mentioned? Simple words, please. That someone is… very likely an idiot.”

" The rifts where the demons enter our world......is there no way to close them?", Jacaranda queried.
