Eldin & Gremmur make their way out to find some shady cab drivers. Fortunately, they are in Lower Duras, where plenty of off-the-books deals are done. It would not take long to try and find a couple of cab drivers, probably in a seedy coast-side tavern, and chat with them about being hired for the following evening. They can tell that this is for something off the books as soon as the conversation starts, and are willing to work on the job for 21 gold each to be available for the whole evening (9 pm until midnight), plus another 15 gold each to ensure definitely no questions asked.
Oh, I should mention, if Gremmur doesn't pay the 21 + 15 = 36 GP, Eldin will.
Hearing that Atlan speaks of him, Kerthak stands from the idel position he was waiting and approaches Ith.
A massive warforged, standing 7 feet 3 inches tall with silvered plating and three lines of red painting crossing his left shoulder towards the chest. His eyes glimmering with a greenish luminescence.
“Greetings.” He says with a cavernous voice “ This unit name is Kerthak. Fact: This unit has been informed that you and other organics need help in lifting some goods from a train. Offering: This unit could help you and other organics. It is capable of lifting 540 pounds of weight. Inquiry: This unit requires to know if there is an associate payment for this lifting job. Conditional Inquiry: If the prevoius answer is affirmative. How much gold will this unit receive upon completition of the job. Explanation: This unit requires upgrades and that upgrades requires money. Conclusion: This unit needs money.”
Before arriving back at the hideout, "Gremmur" will turn to Eldin, now in its young elven female form and say "I guess there is no need for keeping appearances anymore. I was just trying to be cautious, I'm sure you understand. My name is Daejor, nice to meet you."
Once back at the hideout, Daejor will finish working on its boots and offer to take a look at anyone else's shoes. It will take many hours to do this, but Daejor has accomplished its side mission and has some time to spare until H hour. "I know that this is supposed to be a quick job, but just in case, let me look over y'all's boots. It should help with keeping you at the tip of your toes during the mission." All of this is accomplished in the young elven maiden form.
(I'm trying to use Maintain Shoes feature of the cobbler's tools, first on myself an then on anyone else who's willing to be barefoot for a few minutes).
Cobbler’s Tools
Although the cobbler’s trade might seem too humble for an adventurer, a good pair of boots will see a character across rugged wilderness and through deadly dungeons.
Maintain Shoes. As part of a long rest, you can repair your companions’ shoes. For the next 24 hours, up to six creatures of your choice who wear shoes you worked on can travel up to 10 hours a day without making saving throws to avoid exhaustion.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Using the ladder that Weasel found, Caspian would like to climb up into the house and begin to do some snooping around to see if he can find out how long the owners will be away for.
@Boo... Boo begins to trawl through the extensive archives of Morgrave University, narrow searching his fields to Dragonshards. While there is plenty of text on the general use for such devices and various schematics on equipment that is enhanced by shards, one thing does stick out that may be useful for this heist. Dragonshards of the different dragons, Khyber, Siberys, and Eberron, are usually transported separately due to the belief that if unprocessed shards of different dragons were struck against each other there could be serious repercussions. Based on this, there could be three different crates; one for each type of dragonshard if they are transporting a mixture. Beyond that, it is known that dragonshards are transported via Lightning Rail sometimes. To have them unmarked probably means that these are most likely unprocessed and definitely either stolen or taken from an unmarked vein of shards.
@pokepaladdy
Boo smiles, something helpful at least, not a wasted trip, she looks back over and rechecks the materials and sources specifically looking to know if its possible to detect or locate Shards through the use of say, Detect Magic or Locate Object figuring as a source of magic tech they should (maybe, maybe not) radiate magic so wants to be sure or that use of such may be workable or at least has a possible (even if only a small) chance of helping as to not to waste any spells slots or time, etc. later on if she can find out more on this now all the better.
Also, Boo also looks for anything about if the Shards in their raw form are unstable (--possibly dangerous around magic, any bad reactions to spells cast on or near them--), like adding fire to oil, etc. just to be safe looking to check if say Knock or Find Traps or Dispel Magic is used on or in close proximity there won't be any adverse reactions or unintended or unwanted results such as a Dispel Magic render them inert or useless, we don't want that. Maybe overkill and a waste of time to check on this but you never know... Boo is a bit of a paranoid personality and cautious so is just looking into this for safety sake and dot all the i's and cross the t's.
@pokepaladdy if I need to make another roll to go back over the sources or material already gone through or if she needs to consult some additional different books, etc. just let me know, no problem. Also, @Everyone just to make things easier on all of us and the DM feel free to assume that once Boo and everyone else is together again that Boo shares 100% of her Shard research so everything she knows or finds out here about them, your character will learn/know soon enough, no holding back and to avoid needing to rehash all of it later and avoid someone worrying about metagaming, what their character knows or doesn't.
Caspian is going to turn to Weasel, "So, do you have any way to get in the house without just breaking the window? I don't have any thieves tools or crowbars that I could use to get in."
Eleven sits in the hideout, nursing another bottle. He looks around at the few individuals still there. "What else is happening today? Are we planning to just sit around? If so, I'm gonna head over to the waterfront and see if I can pick up a few hours of work to add some coin to my purse and then see what kind of trouble I can get into at a tavern or two tonight." He waits to see if anyone has any information to relay.
Weasel at first nods but then shakes her head, "I mean I do, but do we need to break in there? Frankly speaking, if we do this well enough or even bad, we won't be crashing through that room. And even if we do warn them...won't we just attract more attention here?"
Back at the hide out, Majin informs the others where to get a Feather Token "Sorry but I only had enough for myself" Then he finds a table and starts shuffling cards. "I think the only thing left to decide is who is going to do what." Majin starts playing solitaire
Caspian nods at Weasels words. "Yeah, sorry. That makes a lot more sense to just slip in on the actual night of and not worry about attracting too much attention by scaring the family off. This is my first heist, and I'm uh, not really sure how to go about all of this"
@Eldin: "Sort of. I got into this job through a... friend. He's called Aleric and has a few contacts in Lower Dura. Runs a minor street gang or something like that. Do you know him?"
(To note, it's per driver so it'll be 72 gold total)

Please check my previous post. I had already paid the 72gp. Let's not overpay these drivers... :)

(Caspian would also need to get into the house, so might want to use some thieves' tools or break a window to get inside if he's doing that)
(Daejor will have everyone's shoes nicely prepped for the following day)

@Majin "It's quite alright. I know the spell Feather Fall."
"How much are the tokens, and where would I get one?" Eleven asks Majin. "I've always stayed in the Lower City, so I haven't needed one."
