This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
"Well... that was unexpected," Keyleth says, once their assailant is knocked out and the urgency of self-defense has fallen away.
"He doesn't look like a red wizard, or undead, or a wild or magical creature of these shrines... just a Tabaxi with a bow. What do you suppose he's doing here?" she ponders aloud to no one in particular.
OoC: Does he have any recognizable markings or signs of affiliation with any faction, etc.?
As Keyleth inspects the tabaxi Timber, being of the same race, sees that he is quite old and the thought that he may have been senile crosses his mind.
You don't see anything that indicates that he is of any known factions in Chult.
Meanwhile Ransyl pokes around the lair and finds a gourd with some powders as well as a bunch of other gear that would make up an explorer's pack. You find a backpack, a bedroll, a mess kit, a tinderbox, 10 torches, 10 days of rations, and a waterskin. There is also 50 feet of hempen rope.
Looking around, you also find a cube similar to the ones you have been finding. It has an image of a flail snail on it.
"Timber, do you think it's worth waking him up and talking to him?" Keyleth asks. "Or do you think that'd be more trouble than it's worth? We could just leave him in his 'house' to wake up, maybe with a note warning him not to come after us, and get some distance before he does come to."
OoC: I assume the hold person spell would have worn off by now, with saves every 6 seconds? But do we want to wake him up to talk, or leave him in his house and make sure we're not here when he does wake?
When Dr A drops his spell and Timber shakes the elder tabaxi awake he quickly drops his bow and raises his arms in surrender.
"I'm sorry, I give up, please don't kill me!" he cries out. "Let me help you, I have food and stew and supplies. I'm very sorry! It was a mistake, I thought... It was a mistake. I'm sorry. Please let me make it up to you."
"Slow down, kitty...start from the start. Who are you? Why are you here? And why did you assume we were your enemies and attack us?" Kirinar asks, not pointing his weapon at the tabaxi, but ready for any sudden moves...

Kirinar continues closing to the attacker, attempting to use the walls and buildings as cover until he can get up to where Keyleth faces their foe.

If he thinks its more our of self defense rather than evil intentions, He then calls out, "Friend! Why do you attack us?"
As Dr A's spell paralyzes the Tabaxi Keyleth steps in and drives her daggers into him killing him.
Ransyl and Kirinar enter the building the tabaxi stood in and they find that he probably lived in there. There are stairs leading to the roof.
OoC: Keyleth was trying to do non-lethal damage (posted that in the original post, but didn't reiterate with the new rolls)

Sorry missed that.
You knock the Tabaxi unconcious.

Timber thinks for a moment before responding. "I will try to talk to him. If he seems unresponsive, we can leave him here."
Timber then heads over to their captive, with a smile says "Hello there friend. Was there a reason you attacked us?"
The tabaxi is currently unconscious and paralysed by Dr A's hold person spell.

(I like the idea of making sure he's 'secure' and waking him up to ask why he attacked us. Ya never know - he could be a valuable ally!)

Timber will ask Dr A to drop the spell if it hasnt worn off before gently shaking the Tabaxis shoulder. He will then talk (See above post).
"Ahbut if you think it is safe to do so my young friend" Dr A says as he releases his concentration.
