Zeke shares a shy smile with Fae as he enters Ethans' makeshift workshop. He'd come after a flash of inspiration he'd had, an idea to make suitable trophies from their victory over the Behir, but as Fae began talking about building a training area, the barbarian's attention would shift to the new task at hand.
'Yes, at the temple we had just such an area where the Master would drill me over and over again. Others would join from time to time to hone their skills or for me to learn how to defend against arcane assaults or ........' realizing he was dangerously close to blasphemy, the tiefling stopped short. Clearing his throat, he continued in a more measured tone 'I can most certainly replicate a similar space here. I'll speak to the Town elders about finding a suitable place and make arrangements to see to training some of the townfolks in the use of some simple weapons.'
Nodding his head solemnly, the hulking tiefling strides out of the workshop in search of the Town Meister.
Ethan and the others find that no one will take their coin, whether it be for the moonshine from Elmar, their rooms, their food, their drink, etc. Often townsfolk, even a few the group has hardly spoken to at all, chip in small handfuls of coins here and there to ensure a business such as the Stonehill's does not suffer much from the expense.
After being in town for a bit, the shield, now known to be named Tharilim, pipes up a bit. "Ms. Elra of the House of Knowledge, I hope I have served you well during this most recent bit of peril we have found ourselves in. While you did not seem to need my protection, I found I was able to control my fear and stay quiet. Your good company has helped me to clear my mind and find some amount of courage again. Impressively, I sensed very little fear from all of you even when battling this large beast you all spoke of. Amazing..."
When Elra uses her Sending spell she promptly receives a friendly reply. "Greetings child. Writing you back now. Vincent here. Your parents? I'm sorry my dear, I could not know. Let me think on it for you."
Amongst all of the celebration and tasks of the day, Sister Garaele seeks out any members of the group in the town square or the Stonehill Inn to get their permission to sit in with Gundren and see if she can help him in any way.
Ethan puts down his stylus and stretches and rubs his hands.
"Ok, I think that's everything."
Ethan has already checked and rechecked everything he has infused into the ruby and is finally ready to activate his latest creation.
Ethan takes the ruby and the stylus in hand and with one final flourish, he activates the ruby, connecting it to his power reserves.
There is a low hum from the gem and as Ethan pulls his hand away, the ruby stays floating in the air.
A moment later beams of magical light start tracing out shapes in the air around the ruby and as they complete, solid matter forms in the shapes traced.
Within only moments, a small, insect-winged, metal humanoid, floats in the air between Ethan and Fae, his wings buzzing and flitting, as he starts to look around for the first time.
The homunculus looks like this guy:
Except that his body is all metal and chrome like this guy:
Both of his arms end in hands, but one of them can transform into a small force blaster when he needs to fight.
His wings look like transparent crystal, with faint rainbow colour tints in the various segments.
He measures just over a foot tall, with wings about the same length.
"Hello little one, don't be afraid. My Name is Ethan and I am your creator."
This little construct looks Ethan up and down before responding in an unfamiliar language.
The homunculus' voice is high pitched and everything comes out with a chittering and gibbering quality.
"Είστε ο κύριος; Αυτό είναι καλό, μου αρέσει."
"Είσαι ο Ethan, ποιο είναι το όνομά μου;"
(This is in Lantanna, a dialect of draconic with a great deal of extra vocabulary for science, mathematics, and magical creation)
"You are the master? This is good, I like you."
"You are Ethan, what is my name?"
"Oh, um, a name, I hadn't thought about that, hmmm..."
"I know, I will call you Quinn. One of the girls at the university, her family name was Quinn. She said it meant 'child of intellect', which would seem like a good fit."
The homunculus bobs up and down in the air.
"Κουίν, αυτό είναι καλό μάστερ."
"Quinn, this is a good name master."
Quinn looks around and notices Fae behind him and with a quick darting motion he flies over Ethan's shoulder to hide.
Giving Fae a look over, Quinn chitters to Ethan.
"Ποιος είναι ο ντροπαλός που μοιάζει με τα παράξενα χέρια; Γιατί κάποιος είναι τόσο αναξιόπιστος εδώ μαζί μας κύριος;"
"Who is the shifty looking one with the strange hands? Why is someone so untrustworthy here with us master?"
"Hey, don't speak like that about her! Her name is Fae and she is very kind and helpful. You be nice to her, ok?"
Quinn floats up and back over Ethan's shoulder, continuing to look Fae over.
"Μην ανησυχείς αφέντη, δεν θα την πληγώσω."
"Δεν χρειάζεται να φοβάσαι αφέντη, θα την παρακολουθώ στενά. Θα σιγουρευτώ ότι έχεις προειδοποίηση προτού μας προδώσει."
"Do not worry master, I will not hurt her."
"You need not fear master, I will keep a close watch on her. I will make sure you have warning before she betrays us."
"What? No, Fae is a friend, you don't need to do that."
"Here, help me put all of this back in my gauntlet."
Ethan indicates all of the items laid out around the room and then the gauntlet sitting open beside him.
Quinn floats down and looks into the gauntlet.
"Αυτός είναι ο κύριος σου; Είναι πιο εντυπωσιακό."
"This is your doing master? It is most impressive."
Before Ethan can say anything in response, Quinn climbs into the gauntlet, disappearing from view.
"Hey! Come out of there! Umm, well, actually you should be ok, you are a construct after all."
Quinn climbs back out of the gauntlet.
"Αυτό είναι υπέροχο αφέντη! Είναι πολύ μεγαλύτερο στο εσωτερικό, τότε σκέφτηκα."
"Θα πρέπει να μπορείτε εύκολα να μεταφέρετε πολλά μέσα σε αυτό."
"This is marvellous master! It is much bigger on the inside then I fist thought."
"You should be able to easily carry a great deal inside it."
Quinn starts flying around the room, garbing items small enough and light enough for him to carry and bringing them back to Ethan.
"Εδώ κύριε, θα πάρω άλλο."
"Here master, I will get another."
Ethan puts the gauntlet back on and starts moving around the room collecting back everything and taking the things that the little homunculus brings him.
Within no time the room is clear again, all of the items and Ethan's work area, cleared away back into the compressed space of his gauntlet.
Ethan motions to Quinn, indicating his back.
"Quinn, I have a spot for you on my back. I have placed 4 hooks that you can grab, if you activate the rest protocol while holding the hooks with your hands and feet, you can rest comfortably on my back."
Quinn flies around behind Ethan and locates the tiny hooks Ethan indicated.
Grabbing onto them, Quinn says,
"Ενεργοποίηση πρωτοκόλλου REST."
"Activate REST protocol."
Quinn's body rapidly folds up until he appears like a small metallic pack with 4 pairs of crystalline wings hanging down from it.
It now appears as if Ethan has some very undersized, insect-like wings.
A moment later the wings spring back up and Quinn unfolds.
Leaning over Ethan's shoulder Quinn says,
"Αυτός είναι ο πιο εξαιρετικός δάσκαλος. Μπορώ να κρατήσω αβίαστα ενώ μπορώ να παρακολουθώ τον κόσμο."
"Ενεργοποίηση πρωτοκόλλου REST."
"This is most excellent master. I can hold on effortlessly while still being able to observe the world."
"Activate REST protocol."
The tiny homunculus again folds up into his pack form, the wings folding down to hang behind Ethan again.
When Sister Garaele comes asking about Gundren, Elra smiles sadly. "I hope you can do better then me. I'm not sure what to do. And Im not sure I'm skilled enough to help him right now."
Zeke came and gone so swiftly. But that’s what he was, efficient with his time and actions. Fae couldn’t help but smile slightly from the bit of himself Zeke shared before he strode off. It almost looked as though he had something else on his mind when he came in though. She didn’t mean to redirect the tiefling if there were other tasks on his mind. She also meant to ask him how the Dendrar family was doing.
Fae would blink for a moment when Ethan would ask if she’s heard of ‘mind building’. She believes there are plenty of ways to interpret what that could be, so she would wait for him to continue, describing an area of study that creates a mind for autonomous creations. So that’s how he created part of his Eldritch Cannon.
Yes, she was quiet for quite some time, but the scholar had actually flipped to a specific portion of her notebook where she held other personal long term studies of her own that involved the mind. Fae was actively taking down his explanation of the process and description Ethan was providing. His studies focused on creating a mind, hers focused on preserving it... perhaps they weren’t that different? Occasionally she’d flip to her studies to compare before skipping back, shifting a little timidly every time she did.
The wizard was about to open her mouth to ask something, but then Ethan would mention his design he’s been working on and would show her the ruby. She’d tip toe closer to look at it. As her eyes fell over the gem and the artificer would explain that it was something he needed in order to complete his homunculus, her eyes would ink over black.
Fae would pause in her tracks for a moment before she’d blink out of it. She’d shake her head to clear the webs, feeling a little rude for spacing out, a sheepish smile would appear on her face. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to space out.” She’d shift a little embarrassed. “I don’t find it boring... I am listening.” She’d encourage. “Actually, something I’ve been working on may share some similar properties...” Her eyes would glance away. It definitely wasn’t anything as intricate or as helpful as an Eldritch Cannon or a homunculus, but it was important to her. “This is really helpful actually. So, thank you, for letting me hover, a little like a dragonfly.” She’d let out an awkward chuckle.
As Ethan would begin to get to work on the labourous task of scribing the sigils, Fae was willing to help, assuming she could be of any help. To help herself, the wizard would take 10 minutes to cast her ritual of comprehend languages as he set up. This way she could work in what ever language was easiest for Ethan’s work. Getting a bit of experience with the way the artificer was scribing for the gem could be a good thing for what she was working towards.
Fae was just wide eyed in awe as Ethan would manifest a flying being before her eyes. When it would flit around she could only bring her hand up to gently wiggle her fingers in a shy hello. This was nothing like she was working on. This was much more complex. Much more creative and useful. There were so many little details!
The wizards head would tilt as it did while she watched the first interaction between the two. Her eyes were unable to look away from the buzzing homunculus, tracking it as it bobbed around and took in it’s surroundings. A small smile tugged at the corner of her lips when Ethan would name it. Though, when it would notice her, and the translation hit her ears of what it’s first impressions of her were, her expression would fade. She’d immediately glance away and tuck her hands into her sleeves. Fae would avoid eye contact from this point and try not to eavesdrop.
Fae would stand in silence and stare at the items on the floor getting swept up one by one. As a path had been cleared to the door, she’d turn to face Ethan, sporting his new ‘wings’. “Thank you for inviting me to join you today and for sharing your knowledge.” She’d offer him a polite smile, “I’ll excuse myself while you finish up for your rest.” The wizard would formally bow her head to the artificer before turning to take her leave.
Fae would make her way to her own room. When she’d close the door behind her, she’d lean on it a moment to exhale a breath. Inhaling a new one, she’d step to her desk to settle down. The scholar would start a list.

As Fae combed through her notes, she’d organize them the best she could to review the information in grouped, bite sized pieces. It looked as though they had a few directions they could go. And this list didn’t include anything with Sildar or Grundren. Mr. Rockseeker was in the best of hands with Elra and Sister Garaele. Hopefully he will be alright.
Once her notes for the others were gathered, Fae would pause at her desk. Her stomach would protest. She’d then review her notebook one more time before she’d make her way downstairs to the common room. The wizard would quietly help herself to a plate of food, thanking the townsfolk for their hospitality. She’d find the quietest corner she could to settle in. Picking at her food, Fae would silently flip through her studies.
With a smile Sister Garaele replies to Elra "indeed, if his body has already been healed it is unlikely I can help, but at least I do not think it can hurt." "Enjoy some rest, and thank you for what you've done for our town."
Glancing around briefly the young elf misses Fae hidden in the corner behind the many patrons of the Inn at the moment. She does pass Mrs. Stonehill as she comes down the stairs of the stares who remarks "he's doing ok, although is still somewhat restless." They touch each other on the shoulder and share weak smiles before Sister Garaele heads upstairs.
Mere seconds later those in the Inn and even those outdoors nearby hear a cry of "NO!" from upstairs, followed by a thud.
(Ethan is likely in his room, with Elra and Fae both in the Inn's common room. Tarja and Zeke can be wherever you think they should be several hours into this time in town.)

Afternoon - Tarja would have already finished dealing with the behir hide with Ethan and would have already checked on Gundren. She'd probably be out talking with the townsfolk more - making sure that she didn't miss warning anybody about the chasm in the manor, especially anybody with children. So she'd probably be outside the inn but not out of the town.
Ethan would half notice that something was wrong, but being distracted by his task of cleaning up, he wouldn't have done anything until Fae thanked him for sharing his knowledge and excused herself.
"Oh, um sure, its always fun to work with someone who understands and is interested."
As Fae closes the door behind her, Ethan stands in the centre of the room with a frown on his face and then it clicks.
"Quinn! What you said, you said something about her hands didn't you?"
The tiny homunculus flies over from Ethan's back.
"Ναι, αφέντη, που είχε παράξενα χέρια, όχι σαν το δικό σου."
"Yes master, that one had strange hands, not like yours."
"That must have been it. I think maybe she doesn't like people noticing them."
"Now that I think about it, she does that thing where she pulls her hands into her robes, I'm an idiot!"
Ethan looks Quinn in the eyes.
"Quinn, I forbid you from talking about how her hands are burned, ok? At least whenever she is nearby."
"I think it upsets her and I don't want her to be hurt."
The tiny homunculus, that doesn't breath, lets out a sigh.
"Αν πρέπει να κυριαρχήσω, αλλά δεν ξέρω γιατί πρέπει να ενοχλούμε."
"Δεν μου φαίνεται αξιόπιστη, λέω ότι την αφήνουμε και χτυπάμε μόνη μας."
"If I must master, but I don't know why we should bother."
"She doesn't look trustworthy to me, I say we leave her and strike out on our own."
Ethan frowns at Quinn,
"You don't know what your talking about. She is one of the most trust worthy of my friends."
"She saved my life, just this morning and she risked her own life to do it."
Quinn turns his head to look at the door to the room.
"Λοιπόν ίσως είναι εντάξει, αν πράγματι έσωσε τη ζωή σου, αλλά έχω κακή ατμόσφαιρα γι 'αυτήν."
"Well maybe she is alright, if she did indeed save your life, but I've got bad vibes about her."
"Come on, lets go down stairs, I need something to eat."
Quinn attaches himself to Ethan's back and Ethan goes down to get some food.
Seeing that Fae is not there, and having a flash of inspiration, Ethan takes his meal back in his room.
Later when the cry and the thud are heard, Ethan is half eating, half sketching in his designs book.
"What was that?!"
Quinn detaches from Ethan, taking up a defensive position in front of him.
"Μη φοβάσαι τον αφέντη, θα σε υπερασπιστώ"
"Do not fear master, I will defend you."
"No Quinn, you are too fragile. You have to stay safe behind me. Come on we'll investigate."
As Ethan moves towards the door to his room, the tiny homunculus falls in behind Ethan, hovering over his shoulder.
Quinn's left forearm transforming into a tiny version of the force blaster from Ethan'sEldritch Cannon, while Ethan extends his shield, in case it is needed.

Everyone including Tarja out near the town square hear the the scream of 'NO!' from the second floor of the Stonehill Inn. The scream is one more of passion and defiance than fear, and for those inside the inn is followed by a large thud, then another.
Elra is the first up the stairs, followed closely behind by Zeke and Fae. With his impressive speed and usual urgency, Zeke passes Elra in the second floor hallway and is actually the first to the open door of Gundren's room where he and the others catch the last glimpse of Sister Garaele's limp body hit the floor. In that instant she is motionless, here eyes closed, and the first drops of blood from a wound on the back of her head drip to the wooden floor. Standing over her breathing heavy is Arvel. The warlock looks up at Zeke with a blank stare and quickly attempts to close the door, but Sister Garaele's shoulder is in the way. Quickly giving up on the door, Arvel deftly hops over the body of the priestess of Tymora, grabs a dagger off of the floor and heads straight towards Gundren in his bed.

Elra seems torn between stopping Arvel and helping Sister Garaele. Finally, her instincts kick in moves out of the way to let Zeke and the others in as she lays a hand down on the acolyte, praying for her death to be spared.

Denrar may be related to the druid?
Picking at her food, Fae would silently flip through her studies.
just an unstable unicorn.
Elra looks in that direction and sprints for the stairs.

Fae would drop what ever she was eating and carry her spellbook under her arm as she rushes up the stairs after Elra.
just an unstable unicorn.
Please feel free to roll initiative while we give others time to react and declare where they are at as the yell is heard.
I’ll say that Fae, Ethan and Elra are all one Dash action or two turns of regular movement away from the commotion.

Earlier when Fae is about to leave
Quinn's left forearm transforming into a tiny version of the force blaster from Ethan's Eldritch Cannon, while Ethan extends his shield, in case it is needed.

(If everyone else was congregated at the Inn, Zeke would have taken up his customary position at the Inn, posted up where he can see the front door and keep watch over everyone)
Hearing the scream from upstairs, Zeke would have leapt from his seat and cleared the stairs ahead of Ethan and Fae, shield down and blade out.

Just to be clear Ethan and Quinn are still inside Ethan's room. They have moved to the door, but the door is still closed.

(not sure we need a map for this, but if the need arises we can do one)
