Griming stands up and approaches the creatures slowly. Tempting to calm down the creature, taking slow steps and giving to it a portion of my ration. Animal Handling9
Does a Perception Check can confirm it's the same animal ? (Perception: 22)
You recognize the saddle position and the way the creature moves, which seems a little more tame than would be normal for such a creature. It's definitely the same one.
Your attempts to befriend the beast spook it, as it turns around and heads quickly out of the tunnel. You're not sure how it found you, or who it's previous master was, but you're certain it was the same crawler. Maybe you'll have another chance later....
You rest, and the next morning strike camp and head into the underdark, Hemeth leading the way. Derendil laments being lost, and pines for someone to break the curse and return him to his natural elven state. He describes in great detail the home of his people, although it's not a land any of you have heard of, despite his insistence they are a famous elven people.
Sarith keeps to himself, really only interacting with Stool, who is very excited to be heading toward "home."
The second day ends with nothing of interest, just the long journey through caves that twist and turn and shrink and grow. You sometime have to squeeze through small passages, while at others you walk through wide caverns that extend into the darkness.
On the third day, you come across another symbol carved into a cave wall. It looks similar to the last one you saw, a drow warning of demons in the area.
You pass by warily, but nothing happens as you continue your journey.
At the end of the third day, as you begin to think of finding shelter for the night, you come upon a strange sight. 4 quaggoth sit on a ledge about 20 feet above you, watching as you pass underneath. They make no move to communicate or attack, simply watching you.
Oorr takes the bow, but he does not nock an arrow yet. Better to not seem menacing while they pass." I go first. Let's keep a two-column formation. Zippy, with me. "
Grimnir is looking around for a possible trap or another danger
perception 23
Looking at the four figures, and the surrounding area, you do not see any traps, or anything other than the usual scenery of caves and fungi. However, you do notice that the eyes of the Quaggoth are unfocused as they peer down at you. The look on their faces is glazed, and you can almost make out spots of red and mushrooms growing on the sides of their heads.
They make no move to attack or interfere as you pass by. And before long you have passed them and left them behind, several of your party keeping watch in case they follow you.
On the 4th day you travel again through twisting turning passages, and as the day winds down, Oorr and Grimnir sense you are being followed, but it is not the 4 quaggoth that were watching you. Instead, as you scout behind you, you catch site of a yellowish ooze slowly making its way towards the party aong the ground. On the ceiling is an identical creature, both creeping across the cave surface. You could easily out run them, but you also need to make camp for the night soon, which would give them time to catch up to you.
They are about 600 feet behind you, moving about about 120 feet a minute (3 feet a second), though the speed is variable. For example, while you stopped to investigate, they appear to have slowed down even further, though they don't appear to know you've spotted them.
Oorr has heard of such creatures. He never saw one, though." I do not like these creatures. They are not natural. Although their behaviour is rather strange. "
"Yes, Belwar, I would not bet our lives. They are slow, we can take them from a distance."

OOC: A D&D round is 6 seconds. A minute is 60 seconds.

(OOG Just realized I forgot to follow up on this Intelligence check) Belwar, having studied some the effects demons have on people, and knowing that your friends are suffering some sort of madness, you do a little more investigating based on the reactions they've had.
Grimnir, Stool, Bupiddo, and Sarith are all suffering long term madness. If they undergo another attack, they may be subjected to more permanent effects than what you've seen.
Belwar, Derendil, Jimjar, and Eldeth are suffering short term madness. The case is more mild, but they are prone to suffering worse effects later.
The rest of you seem to be okay, for now. At this point, a lesser restoration would be needed to cure them, but if you delay, a greater restoration would be needed or the effects might be made permanent.

OOG, Math fail... yeah, that's more like 3 feet a second.

OOC: The closest thing we have to a healer is Oorr. How quickly can we get to 5th level so he can get lesser restoration?

(OOG I don't really want to get side tracked by numbers, I was trying to post before I had to leave today, so was getting the math wrong in my rush. Let's just say they're moving at a slow but steady pace. Their speed is 10 feet, but they are dashing, so that's 20 feet every six seconds, or 200 feet a minute. The more important thing is what are you going to do in light of these slow moving predators?)
