"Wait," Thistle cautions. "Just because one ran doesn't mean they're all on the run. Either they have a bolthole and they're gone, or they're backed into a corner and waiting for us. Either way requires us to be careful. Just... go slowly, and look out for traps or ambushes."

Zashier let out a pained chuckle, though brushed aside any offers of further aid. "Either which way you would have it, my friends, it seems we are relatively in agreement. Which is good, as I don't think these kobolds aren't much of the neighborly type, which is not good, as you know."He admits, throwing in a sagely nod at the ends. "Best to not give them too much time now. So, if the Radman there is feeling fine enough to go, I say we go. With me taking point as always."

The party once again sets off. You pass through where a portcullis used to exist, before Raddunth ripped it down in a rage. You round the corner, cautiously, where the kobold ran away, and you slowly descend deeper into the earth.
As you continue on, you notice the passages starting to shrink...Zashier, leading the party, is feeling the constriction the most. The tunnels have shrunk down from 10 feet to 5 feet wide. Still 10 feet tall, but obviously not made for someone Zashier's size to easily pass through. Thistle, and others, your perception of what lies ahead is severely limited because you cant see around Zashier - his body quite literally brushing the walls on either side of you, and only a few feet of clearance above his head.
The stairs descend, and switch back a few more times. You realize that you are not sure what time of day it is, which direction you are headed, but you feel the air around you getting colder as you move through these passageways.
You round the corner at the bottom of one of the stairways, and in front of you is a hallway, 60 feet long. As you begin to walk, Thistle's hair stands up on the back of her neck. You are about 15 feet into the hallway, and Thistle, as you look up, you see something dropping through holes in the ceiling...and all of you feel something as 16 scorpions drop onto you.
You are 15 feet into a 60 foot tunnel/hallway, of the 16 scorpions that dropped on you, 4 land on the party. One on Zashier, one on Raddunth, one on Thistle, and one on Lem. the remaining 12 are on the ground, and they look angry, their stingers poised to attack. I will say they are scattered throughout the party, so any of you could attack the ones on the ground.
I will use Lem's +5 initiative bonus for the group, and roll the scorpions as two groups, the ones on the ground, and the ones on the party.
Party: 24
Scorpions on party: 4
Scorpions on ground:19
The party acts first. Each of you can take a round action, then the scorpions will go. However, no one can get around Zashier, so no one can move forward unless Zashier moves forward. You are welcome to use any of your items or skills to deal with the scorpions, as long as you can logically explain how it works in fiction, and I will set the DC accordingly.
Raddunth will try to grab the scorpion that landed on him by the tail (hopefully without getting stung), tear off the tail/stinger/poison sac, and then snack on the rest of the scorpion. (After all, a barbarian has got to eat.)
(Edit: There are no "critical" results for checks, but still... damn... If that result is high enough over the DC, maybe Raddunth can help out with the scorpion on the nearest person?)

Nat 20 on a skill check. With those modifiers, Yes; yes to all of that.
Raddunth sees the scorpion drop onto his shoulder. Rather than recoiling, he looks at the scorpion with interest. He grabs the scorpion, pulls off the tail and pinchers, and munches on the scorpion.
Raddunth Intimidation 19
Above you you all hear the sound of footsteps as the kobolds run off, scared of the giant barbarian that eats scorpions.
Lem, even though these were small holes the scorpions fell through (DC20 to hit) you manage to fling the scorpion up through the hole, and you hear a kobold scream as the scorpion, you assume, lands on a retreating kobold.
Yokini, dropping down, stabs at the nearest scorpion, piercing right through its shell-like exoskeleton. Out pours blood and green-ish ooze you can only assume to be poison.
11 scorpions on the ground, moving in, 1 scorpion on Thistle, and 1 on Zashier.
Zashier stays calm, trusts in his thick hide, and while people either ate, threw, navigated, or stabbed various unfortunate scorpions, he carefully undid his pack, and just tried to coax the remainder into it for the time being with his hands. "Try not to move overly much, if you can everyone. Only draws more attention, and I need them to come here now."He said, alternating between brushing some inside to picking them up by the tail and setting them in.

Thistle, you attempt to calmly brush the scorpion from your shoulder, and with his -4 strength, he is unable to grapple you.
12 scorpions on the ground, 1 on Zashier.
I am trying to figure out how an unwilling animal would resist animal handling....Insight? Perception? Investigation? How about this, I will roll insight for the scorpions, to see if they think you have good intentions, and if they trust you.6
They, unfortunately, do not think your backpack is the place they want to be...though that would have really been an interesting plot twist in the story.

1 finds purchase on Lem for 1 piercing damage, and 9 poison damage (Con save: 17)
Lem, its a good thing you have advantage on Con saves. You save, and only take 2 points of Poison damage
Thistle, you barely save, so you only take 4 points of poison damage
Zashier, you save. You also only take 4 points of poison damage
12 scorpions on the ground, 1 on Zashier. They are going to keep stinging when their turn comes back around! They will nickel and dime your HP all day long!
