The rest of the party crowds around Uthal as he summons every ounce of his strength against the doors. Finding a grasp in the seam between the two stone slab doors, he begins to pry them apart, sliding them in either direction, as they would have been had they been opened via the proper manner.
However, those who wanted a closer look into what laid beyond the door may have quickly regretted it. When Uthal managed to separate the doors only the slightest fraction, freezing water began pouring into the corridor.
Current's eyes widen as the water starts pouring in, her body instinctually shivers as it remembers the last freezing night that they spent in the cavern. "What the-" she starts as the water starts coming in. As the water pours in, she tries to gauge how much water is in the next room based on the height of the water coming out of the gap and its speed.
(OOC: Mostly just if it is a room full of water or if it is just a little on the ground that is spilling over.)
What started as a trickle had become a constant stream, spraying into the corridor from beyond the double stone doors. As Uthal attempted the reseal them, he found the door wouldn't budge completely. It appeared that physically forcing the door to open without its proper mechanism may have broke something. And because of this, a water-tight seal could not be acheieved.
The water poured from beyond the doors, splashing down at the feet of the party, however it came through, even at the highest point of the opening, and the water showed no sign of dropping from this point.
Current, in a panic, runs to the door, calling out, "The water isn't going to stop until this entire chamber is flooded. If we want to keep going, we need to figure out a way to reseal the door and open it properly." Once Current gets to the door, she looks around and runs her hands over the door and the nearby wall. In order to cover as much of the door as possible in as short of a time, she has Tide help her search for any indentations or symbols that could show how the door was meant to be opened, or maybe a way to reseal the door.

"That does not look good..." Austins ays, watching the others working. She move sin to try to help them as they searc hfor a way to open the door properly, and, hopefully, be able to reseal it...
Current finds no inscriptions or directions for how the doors were intended to work, however, Austin manages to deduce from the door, and from the previous ones she had seen, that the doors are meant to be slid into the walls themselves. While not visible, it's likely some internal mechanism within the walls, pulls the doors or slide along, perhaps some hidden rail. All of which was triggered by some interaction with a pedalstal.
While speculation, Austin's assessment was a logical assumption. There was simply no physical evidence, she could find, including a pedalstal, that would indicate how the party could make the door work.
The water continues pouring into the chamber. And while just minimal, the pouring water ran towards the flooded stairwell and had caused the water level to begin to raise.
Uthal points to the way through the water and to the rubble. "We need to find our way forward, quickly. If there is water there our evil escaped friend did not go through that door."

Ura says to Maas, "Hey, if the water rises too high, you might have to leave with Juppo in a hurry. Also, if you know how to close these doors, now would be a good time to let us know!"
While waiting for Maas's reply, Ura will take a quick look down into the water in the sunken stairs, to see if the tendrils of black are moving here through the water as well.
"I didn't even know those ones opened. As long as we've been here, we never saw them look any other way." Maas responds as much to Ura's question as he does to the current situation, watching the water spill in. "I think the scholars tended to be down there," he said pointing at the flooded stairwell, "but I had no idea it was underwater too."
Peering down into the water, Ura could see clearly down the water-logged part of the stairwell, and the landing for what appeared to be another corridor in a level below. Unfortunately for Ura's insight, she could definitively say that this was not just an illusion and that the stairwell, and the corridor to parts unknown were indeed underwater. The good news however, was that in being able to see through the water, Ura saw no sign of the black misty fog or the squirmy black tendrils within the water.
"I think we best head towards the stairs." Austin says, giving up on the door. "Current, can you go ahead of us and see if there is any place with actual air beyond this point. If there is not, then those of us who cannot breathe water best just start heading back up towards the surface, as it would be a death sentence for us to continue past here, or stay here any longer." She says the last as she glances to the leaking door.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Current nods and glances back at the water apprehensively. "I'll be communicating through Tide as long as I am down there so you all know what is going on. Wish me luck!" With that, she wades into the water on the stairwell. Just as her head is about to sink below the surface, it disappears entirely. Now invisible, the water genasi ducks under the water and proceeds carefully ahead. Taking efforts to be silent as well as to keep her eyes open for any light or air pockets that might be of use to the rest of the party if they choose to come this way. As she swims, she communicates everything she sees back up through Tide to the rest of the party.

“The mark of a successful DM is when you have caused more player deaths with doors than dragons, demons, or devils.”
As Current swam down to the base of the stairs, the light of the party's torches, on the surface, faded away. Even after her eyes began to adjust to the near complete darkness, she could barely see five feet in front of her.
A little ways forward, from the stairs, with the help of feeling around, she found herself at a four-way intersection, though the roughness of the path north told her it was likely only mean to be a three-way cross.
To the east was another corridor that continued straight on, as far as she could tell, as it disappeared into darkness. To the south was another corridor, and somewhere far into the distance, she saw a glow, possibly a light source; but how far and what the source could be was a complete mystery from this point.
Then to the north of the intersection was a large hole in the wall. A hole big enough for even Uthal to easily slip through.
If she were to discover what laid at the end of any of these paths, Current would have to proceed into their darkness.
Still very hesitant to be traveling without any light and barely any vision, Current updates the rest of the party on the intersection through Tide's voice and then continues on towards the South, where she hoped she might be able to find light.

After swimming southward only about 10 or 15 feet, Current finds herself falling in open air, landing hard on the stone floor. The unexpected fall lack of resistance, with no water around her any longer, caused her to fall head first and suffer a blow. Current receives 3 bludgeoning damage.
Looking around Current finds herself in an open room filled with a black fog. Through the fog, just barely further south, she can make out something bright shining through the thick blackness. This was likely that potential light source she saw.
Behind her however, Current saw the flooded tunnel, however the water still filled it. She had apparently passed through some invisible barrier, that held back the water of the flooded corridor.
There was a voice, from the general direction of the supposed light source. However it was only a murmur, like someone thinking outlook to the self, and exactly what was being said was inaudible.
As Current sits up, she rubs the back of her head and winces. She then notifies the rest of the group of the existence of some kind of air pocket, although she also warns them about the black fog. Standing up and moving her hands around a bit, she lets them know that there doesn't appear to be any immediate negative effects to standing in the black fog that she can perceive, so it should be safe to at least come to this point together.

As Tide relays what Current was seeing, a feeling of unease began to sit with Anearis. The black fog had him worried, because whenever it would show up, disaster would followed.
"We should catch up to her. It sounds like she will require our aid.", suggested Anearis.
