Austin chuckles at the Tabaxi's clear intent to place blame elsewhere. "Sorry." She says when eyes turn to her. "If you want to try analagies, how about if you put a person you are to keep safe in a house, and placed guardians on that house, and one of your guardians ended up murdering your person in their sleep, then you would blame the house for it then? It is not your fault the person you actually hired to protect your person killed them instead... I don't buy it, and I feel you are simply either too dim-witted to understand honor, responsibility, or maybe simple logic." She sighs. "Sorry, that came off as a bit more antagonistic than I intended ,but I am cold, and you are wrong. We told your people we would be attacked, we told them we would be sought after by assassins, we told them time and again, but they simply would not pay attention. It ended up being one of their own city guards that was the assassin that time, but it could be just about anyone next."
The tabaxi turned to Austin, following the outburst. "This is true, both myself and the guards would be at fault," the Tabaxi nods to Austin. "In your situation, the guard's responsibility was to protect, and they failed to do so. However, your friend indicated that the assassin was supposed to transport you, not protect your lives. As I said, I was not there, so I cannot speak to the situation more so than what you've provided. But based solely on that, the only thing the Right Hand has failed you in, is ensuring you got to your destination."
Reaching the abandoned town, and standing at the edge of the nearest campfires glow, she turned. "I however, have guided to your destination; perhaps you can take solace in that." Again, a slight fleeting smirk appeared at the corner of her mouth. "I pass no blame, the same as I accept none. There's three sides to every story: yours, mine, and the truth. One cannot make judgements from only knowing one side. I spoke only to gather perspective of your own ideals, not to end your grievances. The Right Hand is not a city guard. We ensure the safety of the Kingdom of Cathaan, not its inhabitants. That may not be what you want to hear, but that is what it is."
Turning to address the rest of the group, "Please, make yourselves warm by the fire. There are supplies if you need additional warmth, and food if you are hungry."
The tabaxi walked through the group and started back up the direction they had all come from. As she walked past them, the other two tabaxi flanked and followed her.
The campfire at which she left the group was beside some crates and a single wagon. There was a single individual at the fire, propped up against a wheel of the wagon, with a narrowed brimmed hat pulled over his eyes. It was likely that the man was asleep.
The next nearest campfire was about fifty feet away towards on the other side of a row of what likely used to be small houses. The sounds of the voices coming from that fire seemed much more lively.
Uthal grunts. "It's fine Austin. Clearly the right hand will never accept any blame because they can just remake the truth to be whatever they want it to be rather than changing anything. They'll just let Zelda and her friends burn the whole kingdom down and then say that the burning was best for the kingdom all along. They don't truly care about the kingdom or its people, only themselves and their pretty ribbons."

“The mark of a successful DM is when you have caused more player deaths with doors than dragons, demons, or devils.”
Ura, silent the entire time, shamelessly warms up by the fire and grabs herself first a set of clothing, cold weather and next some food. More than a few of the less-perishables find their way into her pocket for later. Checking her pocket, she notices Dilthen has gone missing... probably a wise decision for the mouse, as he surely wouldn't have survived the underwater excursion. She only hopes that her little friend found his way into Maas or Juppo's pockets. Still, it's a bit lonely without the furball there, and she sighs a bit to herself.
(Sleight of Hand: 19- let me know how many rations she purloined :P)
As she settles down, making herself comfortable to eat, she mumbles over a full mouth to Uthal and Austin, "Aww, c'mon, don't antagonize them. I, for one, and tired of running around, and for two, if they're serious about protecting the kingdom, they can't possibly ignore the fact that Zelda is now attached at the hip to a tentacle. Perhaps literally." Taking another bite of food, she sighs, wiggling her feet around and decompressing a bit. "If they're going to take literally everything we say the wrong way, or play crossword puzzles with rearranging our words, you might as well just take them for all the hospitality they're worth. We'll deal with what comes next later, like we always do. For now, survive, rest, kill any assassins dumb enough to come after us. Seems like a good plan."
Taking another look around the camp, Ura scratches her head. "Anyone seen Juppo and Maas, by the way? Or get the names of those tabaxis?"
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Taking in the fire’s warmth, Anearis turns to Current. "I am sorry you had to be a part of this. You should not have to be associated to this ordeal. This whole exchange must have sounded weird for you. We ran into them a few times already and I hoped that we would not encounter them again."
At Ura’s inquiry, Anearis began looking around for a sign of the man and the halfling.
The tabaxi having left them with the fire and sleeping man, there was no sign of either Maas or Juppo. For a moment, Anearis even lost sight of himself, but this could have easily been justified by either the overwhelming effects of the cold, or perhaps the furious annoyance of dealing with a member of the Right Hand.
An open crate held a series of rations, 12 to be exact, ((OOC: so Ura managed to take as many as she pleased, minus whatever she would be leaving for the rest of the party.))
A few logs as makeshift seating around the fire also supported a stack of blankets and a few cold weather coats.
Austin just shrugs. "I didn't expect it to do anything, and likely should have remained silent." She moves to the fire, warming her front on the flames, before turning to do her back. Once slightly warmer, she moves to the crates and would try to find a blanket, warmer clothing, or something else to aid in getting warmer. Then she would return to the fire, a ration in-hand, and settle on a log-chair to continue to warm up.
Ura, seeing Anaeris staring blankly around the camp, chuffs him on the shoulder. "Hey, have some food and warm up first. I'm sure they're okay." She takes a look around herself for their two civilian companions, as well as trying to take stock of the camp.
(Perception: 10)
Afterwards, just to be safe, she summons her invisible mage hand and keeps it close. As she wanders around the camp, she tries to surreptitously find a less busy area and slip between the tents to make herself scarce.
(Stealth: 21)
Feeling rather successful at it, she sticks to the shadows, and begins to explore the Right Hand's camp, trying to get a feel for the layout of it, what they're doing there, where their equipment is, where the officers' tents are, and roughly how many of the guards might be around.
It was likely that the time was dusk, when the party emerged from the cave, because now that they were around the fires, it was noticeable just how dark the sky had since become.
As Ura moves through the shadows of the abandoned village, she easily finds deserted areas in which to hide. Occasionally she noticed a torch or a lantern in the distance, likely carried by a sentry of sort, but even so often she also identified movement of some sort off in the darkness. The movements varied in volume and direction, so there was no necessary indication that the movements were of someone following her. Still she was able to proceed unhindered.
Along the southern edge of the village, where the road was, the large caravan of covered wagons with horses, had a few plainly clothed individuals milling about them with a couple of smaller fires. Behind the caravans, to the east, Ura found sadled horses with reigns lashed to the fencing of the town. Every one of the animals stood calmly in a row, and had no one within sight around them.
There were three other 'camp fires' in total; each with similar crates and supplies as their own. The party's fire was in the Southwest corner of the village. There were two of which were crowded with individuals in a mixture of armor and plain clothing, one located in what had likely been a small town square (this was the fire approximately fifty feet from the party), and then another at the village's southeastern corner, near where the road turned back south and towards Lindenfeld.
It was at the closer campfire in the town square that Ura found Maas and Juppo getting warm by the fire. There were two armored Chosen Men that Ura had seen before; the two the party had met when they first entered Lindenfeld. And an elf in a robe, very similar looking to the one the party had seen chained in the summoning chamber (as best as Ura could tell). The five sat around the fire talking.
The third campfire was at the docks, on the north of the end of the village. It was still going strong, so someone had obviously been tending to it, however there was no one at that time.
Ura noticed that at no point did she see any tents or indication of bedding down in the location. Additionally, for the number of horses and wagons, there were a surprising fewer number of individuals around, even taking potential sentries into account.
((OOC: A map can be provided later today on discord))
Ura spends quite some time and effort messaging everyone what she saw, while sticking near the Chosen Men camp to inspect the stranger, aka the formerly chained elf and observe him. Particularly to see if he is still the same guy, and still mute. She won‘t reveal herself yet.
Current just shrugs and Anearis's information. "It's no bother, I suppose as long as they aren't stopping us from doing what we must to that horrid Zelda woman, then it is no problem for me."
While Ura is off exploring, Current opens up a little to the group, "You all mentioned that you've had a few assassination attempts... I told you all that the same had happened to me earlier when I started showing interest in that Zelda woman and this abandoned town. You don't think that the two are connected do you?"
Anearis nods. "I fear it might be. Zelda and her family are involved in with dark forces and she probably intends to remove anyone who will stand in her way. Or in your case, that has taken a bit too much interest in her."
The natural environment around the village all of a sudden became silent for a split second, followed by a roaring of churning water splashing about, just off the shore of the few planks left of what was the village docks.
The sleeping man near the party's fire awoke, mumbling in a still half-delirious state "...time to go?..." Looking around, it was likely he had not even been taking in his surroundings or aware of who was nearby.
From Ura's view point, the five members around the other campfire turned north at the sound. While Maas and Juppo seemed startled by it, the two Choosen Men and the elf who wore a similar robe to that from the summoning chamber all seemed to calmly stand up, and begin making their way towards the shore.
Austin glances up at the new sound and frowns. "Guess they were expecting that." She comments as she sees the figures walking towards the shore. She shrugs, all she really cares about is getting warm, unless something that seems more immediately hostile appears.
Ura shoots a message to Maas. "Hey. We're okay for now. Who's that elf in the robe? The eldritch horrors we were fighting in the water had a guy chained to a pillar just like him. I couldn't figure out if he was helping those cultists as an infiltrator or a prisoner, because his tongue was cut out. Anything you can tell me about that elf guy might help me figure out who we ran into in the ruins."
Juppo and Maas still stood at the campfire, having jumped up at the rushing sound of water, both heavily sweating as if the sound had triggered something very much unwanted, mentally.
The two Right Hands and the robed elf left the fire and walked towards the dock. One of the armored figure was one that Ura and the rest of the party had previously met. The human from the pair of riders who met them at the entrance to Lindenfeld. He had been singing as Ura and Anearis approached, and identified himself as Ser Hagman. The other armored man with him now was unfamiliar but seemed human as well, and had a head of curly redish hair. Both proceeded north with polearms in hand.
The robed elf wore near identical robes to that which Ura recognized from the elf chained in the caves below. This elf however had a much more seasoned face, as if was covered with grooves and wrinkles. His hair was long, white and thinning.
Watching them go towards the sound, Maas only stopped when Ura spoke. Whipping his head around, Maas looked for the source, almost completely mystified by the voice. "Uh...yeah. They're part of some order of wizards, from Shinra. Rumors about their order says they remove their own tongues." Maas spoke loudly, and turned in different general directions, to speak to the seemingly disembodied voice. The entire time Juppo looked on at Maas, worried about his friend's sanity.
Oops. Sighing, Ura pointed a finger at Maas again, sending him another message.
'Maas, this is a special elven I use to communicate with people close by. No one else can hear me but you. And you can reply in a whisper, and no one else will hear it but me. But you can tell Juppo that I said hi! Be careful around those guys. I'm still not sure if I trust them or not. I've run into Ser Hagman before, I think you can believe him and his half-orc friend Tongue, at least. If you still feel like helping us out, I'm interested in knowing what the Right Hand currently thinks of Tetra Berossus. Would you guys be willing to try and find out while I talk to the others?'
She waits for Maas's response, before figuring that the noise had probably attracted whomever was in the abandoned fishing town, likely arriving at the docks. Moving quickly, she rejoined the others at the first campsite.
"Hey. I found Juppo and Maas, they're at the campfire to the east of us. Something's coming in at the docks. Something all the people camping out here are expecting. Hagman was there, so I want to believe it's someone at the very least not on the side of the Tentacle Parade, but I saw another elven mage there who looked just like the one we freed, except older. Maas told me they're an order of magicians from Shinra, who cut out their tongues willingly. I think at the least, we should tell that fella about his fellow order member we found in the ruins, and see how he reacts. But what do you guys want to do?"
Anearis looks over at the docks. He notices the Right Hand’s men heading over there.
He responded to Ura. "If anything, I would rather avoid confrontation. Not while so many Right Hand are here. If it turns out that this wizard is an ally of the Berossus, we will be in a very bad spot. Maybe try to find a way to separate him from the rest of his group if you wish to interrogate him."

Austin chuckles at the Tabaxi's clear intent to place blame elsewhere. "Sorry." She says when eyes turn to her.
