Laire, oblivious to the complicated relations of people around, followed the helmets - that things looked fascinating and to freely dive into the ocean? She wanted nothing more than to try one of them out.
I'll get someone to let me know what the party are doing/where the party are going to next. I'm going to say that about three quarters of an hour to an hour has passed since you all got off the Wavechaser.
The people you rescued followed Bryn and her family up Main Street. You can ask someone close by for directions to somewhere specific (roll persuasion) or set off in a direction and explore (roll perception or investigation). It is only one main street, so if you walk up it far enough, you are likely to come across the shops discussed so far anyway, so you can also just walk up it without making any rolls.
The following is a map of Brokenbank (loosely based on Mont Saint Michel in Brittany France (see here with google street view here if you are interested)):
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Back on the street, Oden says: "The General Store should be somewhere on the main street, we're bound to find it if we just follow it." He tries to map all the other businesses on the main street while looking for the General Store.
Perception: 5
Conversing with Vincent as they walk: "Something was not right with that letter. What do you think? Should we ask Three Earrings for an explanation?"
Vincent shakes his head. “I think it had threats in it which Three Rings was well aware of. We’d do well to distance ourselves from Three Rings after all this.”
With a 10 perception, you are able to find the General Store and take down the names of other shops you pass (and even get directions to a few other stores), but it takes you approximately an hour.
When you all arrive at the Prawn's Pawn and General Store, you are impressed by the size of the shop, with multiple shopfronts and sections. There is a fresh and dried food section, a lolly/sweet/candy section, a 'general adventuring' section, and the pawnbroker section, all accessible from the street and with internal doors between the sections. It looks like the shop has grown over time and that these were not all one big joined shop originally. Each of the sections of the store are bustling with a few locals and (as with all shops, eateries and taverns you have all seen along the way) a lot of sailors and travelers. There is a lot of security watching for anyone trying to get a five finger discount and most things of value are in cases or behind counters.
Oden knows that Brokenbank is the first major entry port and trade junction of the Menagerie Coast, where most ships stop before traveling to any of the other coastal ports (Emon, Feolinn, Nicodranas, Port Damali, Port Zoon, Shamal, Shorecomb, Stilben). It is a stop for nearly all ships traveling between Tal'Dorei and Wildemount.
You cannot see Bryn or Piotr when you enter, though one of the shop assistants in the pawnbroker section has a strong family resemblance to Bryn.
“Well, um, gang? I’d like like to stop by dread, wrath, and beyond eventually. I need to see what scrolls I could get my mitts on”
"Of course, there should be enough time.", says Oden confidently before spending an entire hour looking for the General Store. "It just occurred to me... Are you going to leave Steve with Three Earrings? Or is he able to breathe water?"
Oden shares this bit before they reach the General Store:

[Hehe, to be fair on Oden, it would have taken half an hour even with a good roll. A lot of the time was getting through the crowds along a relatively narrow street with a reasonably steep incline. Also, Oden (and other party members) kept being distracted by the smells of food along the way. It seems that mussels (moules) in rum cream, a sea salt caramel and savoury crepes with salted fish are all delicacies on the island, and all of them smell delicious (yes, even the salted fish crepes).]
The dwarf shopkeep sees you all standing around taking in the sights and smells of the massive shop, comes up to you all and asks "Are you the heroes that saved my kin? If so thank you with all my heart and Bryn said to bring you out the back."
Personally, Laire would do thins in reverse order: first - planning (or at least discussing) the future campaign, taking into account everyone's strength, then making a list of what is needed for everyone and the group as a whole, and only then go to obtain missing items. So far she had very vague idea of who her accidental companions were and even where the group is going. But it did not seem like anyone was bothered by these questions. Probably this is the way things are done in these lands. She shrugged and continued to follow the group.
[OOC: if Laire wants to ask those questions, it is probably a very good idea, and it can either be now or after Bryn provides the reward she promised for saving the people from Flora Isle. I definitely think the characters discussing their strengths and weaknesses is a great idea]
The dwarf shopkeep sees you all standing around taking in the sights and smells of the massive shop, comes up to you all and asks "Are you the heroes that saved my kin? If so thank you with all my heart and Bryn said to bring you out the back."
Vincent gives a short bow in greeting and acknowledgement. “It was only what anyone would do. I’m glad we could help.” Vincent follows him around to the back
The dwarf introduces himself as Osian and takes you through a door behind the counter to a back storage section. You see all the refugees you saved that came across on the Wavechaser, as well as some of those that came on the Tradewind.
You catch the very end of a heated discussion between Bryn and a slightly overweight male tabaxi.
Before you are noticed you hear Bryn say to the tabaxi, “You have suggested incentives in the past to encourage people to immigrate to Brokenbank to mitigate against all the young that leave the island. Just view the reward as being part of that incentive. I’m happy to kick in part of the reward, and even to front the money, but you will repay me some of it.”
The tabaxi says in response “If you would actually listen rather than talk over me, you would have heard that I agreed to putting in money already. What you think is fair and what I think is fair is what seems to be the issue. Also, you need to remember, even though you own half the street, you are not in charge here, if you want to….” At that point Osian coughs to announce that there is an audience to the conversation and Bryn the tabaxi turn to you.
The tabaxi introduces and then excuses himself, “I hear that the Concord and the Coast owe you thanks. I am Mazin Fahreed, the Portcaller of the island. I apologise that you had to witness that… conversation. Know that you have the gratitude of the Concord for saving these people, now please excuse me, I have an island to run.”
Bryn waits until Mazin has gone before saying, “What “Fat Fish” Fahreed meant to say is that he was trying to cheap out on rewarding you all for saving the Flora Islanders, but I went into bat for you. I have convinced Fat Fish to put in some money for each person you saved, and we are going to reward you properly now for saving Piotr, Ness and me.”
Bryn hands you 1000gp rewardand says “that is for your party” and then says to Vincent “to thank you for risking your life and saving me and Ness and then going back for Piotr, you can have any item we have in stock. We understand that at minimum our family would have been much smaller if it wasn't for your heroics and it is likely none of us would have survived if you hadn't come to our rescue. We are going to help re-home the refugees and I'll put some of them to work here or in our other business.”
Vincent, if you have any questions about any item, please ask.
Also, anyone with a passive perception above 12 (I think that is most of you) sees a poster in the pawnbroker area that says, "We Can Appraise and Identify Your Antique, Rare or Arcane Items for only 10gp".
Laire missed at least half the speech, staring at an amazing staff in a shape of a snake, the like of which she had not seen even in books (Staff of the Python). Being awoke from this awe stroke, she would refuse the gold, though - she was not the one saving dwarven family and if that kind woman wanted to support the expedition, surely those who know what to expect would also know what to buy with it.
"Thank you, Bryn. We have an important quest ahead of us and this will help us greatly."
Oden tries to convince Laire to accept her reward: "You earned this, Laire. You took action. This is not for saving one family, but many... all those refugees, my brothers, my sister, my friends."
To the others: "Now that we have the funds, we should think about what we need to improve our odds. It will not be a head-on attack. Does anyone have any experience in subterfuge, or magic to allow as to advance undetected? Any items that you think will be of use?"
Oden shares what he knows from experience about hunting sharks and fighting Sahuagin: "A tactically important aspect for our quest is underwater visibility. Their senses will surpass our own, so we must be extra careful. Where were going, I would expect us to see up to 60ft away during the day. If anyone is using elemental magic, they're probably smart enough to know that fire won't do much good, and electricity is... dangerous."
"I do have a lot of experience in subterfuge, though I doubt it will be very useful with fish people. I am very fond of the crossbow they have inside. Beyond that, I have a helmet for underwater breathing, a few others do as well. At this point, can everyone fight underwater safely?"

"It is just an innocent whim. Nothing bad will come of it, I promise." Oden smiles and makes a "give it here" gesture.
Persuasion: 11
Seeing Hektor's reluctance, Oden drops it and makes for the exit, wondering what could have made the man act so strangely.
[oh man, I'll have to get used to Oden's low persuasion skill]

I should check, does Laire put one of the helmets on?

On the shore?! No. I meant, when time comes to dive.
