Knox was just an old deactivated mechanical Gondsman, sitting on display collecting dust in the Hall of Wonders in Baldur's Gate. It was thought that he was an ancient and forgotten design.
One day an acolyte managed to convince the High Artificer to allow him to try to get Knox working, so that he might be a better example of the wonders of Gond in the Hall. The acolyte spent almost 6 months working on Knox and was about ready to give up, when a spark of inspiration gave him the success he was pursuing.
When Knox first awoke, he was preloaded with skills and knowledge about crafting, languages and Gond the Great Maker, but nothing else. Knox stayed with the priests of Gond, putting into practice the skills he had never used before and learning more about Gond and the world. Knox eventually dedicated himself to Gond and became one of his clerics.
After a few years of this, Knox asked the High Artificer if he could travel, to get to explorer the world, see other wonders Gond had inspired. To get out and help others see the wonders of Gond as well.
The High Artificer reluctantly agreed, concerned for his charge, who had had a sheltered life up to this point.
Equipped with some basic gear, Knox headed out, travelling north to Waterdeep to see its wonders, but he never made it that far. In the dead of night, a group of shadowy figures captured Knox and dragged him underground.
D&D/PbP Experience: I have only played 2 session of Pathfinder in person, but have been playing in various pbp games, here on the forums, for the last few years. Timezone: +10 UTC, I'm located on the East Coast of Australia Campaign specific question: With enough information, I could run an NPC, but I'm fine either way. Character Link: https://ddb.ac/characters/26830859/f2HnEH
Backstory: Tomac's mother died giving birth to him. His father raised him to love nature and live off the land. When his father died of natural causes, Tomac decided to see more of the world. He traveled around helping the down trotted and fight back bullies in the world. He always has an upbeat spirit until his rage takes over. He is ready for a big adventure!
Tomac was walking the woods one day and was ambushed. He was hit from behind and woke up in darkness confused and dazed from the hit on the head.
D&D/PbP Experience: about 5 years of PvP and 5e.
Timezone/Availability: Eastern (USA) time zone. I can post a couple times a day. Once a day on weekends.
Kind of a campaign specific question: I think the DM should run the npcs.
This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
I'm interested in this. I'll update with a character build shortly, just rolling ability scores at the moment. Finally had chance to update this.
Name Tharters Geodedesigner
Ability scores: 12109101513
Race/Class Deep Gnome Wizard (Diviner)
Backstory A clan crafter, specifically a jeweller, Tharters has recently started delving into divination to help him find the best materials for his jewellery. Ultimately, Tharters wishes to be the best at his craft, creating the greatest, and possibly magical, shiny trinkets and jewellery. Still new to his arcane powers and somewhat distracted by the thought of finding some spectacular jewels and metals for his latest creations, Tharters went too far from home and was captured and imprisoned by a Drow scouting party.
D&D/PbP Experience Reasonably new to D&D (started this year DMing a group of other new players). Have been playing PbP for a few months.
Timezone/Availability Live in Australia, so post daytime here most days (US night time) and can generally post several times a day.
Kind of a campaign specific question— I'd probably say DM running NPCs, but am happy to run as a party as well if that's the consensus.
Jasper's earliest memories are of an orphanage in Baldur's Gate, an old and beaten down hellhole that he escaped as soon as he could. The drow blood coursing through his veins was strong, and showed obviously in his physical characteristics. It made life on the streets for him somewhat more difficult - but it was marginally better than before. Out here he could escape his tormentors when needed. Thieving became a way of life for him - and credit to his luck he was never caught in a situation he couldn't slip out of.
In his late teenage years, a voice spoke to him from the darkness of a wealthy merchant's home he was in the process of burglarizing. Locked away in the merchant's cellar was the jagged remains of a blade, pulsing with power. The broken hilt spoke to him in a language he couldn't understand, but imparting the meaning of its strange words onto him all the same. Find. Repair. Power. Wealth...He would be granted the power to attain wealth beyond his wildest dreams, in exchange for his services in helping the sentient weapon repair itself. That broken hilt, some jewelry to sell, and a set of traveling clothes were the only things he stole from the merchant that night.
After fleecing the jewelry and acquiring some basic supplies, he left Baldur's Gate for good. From there, he followed the entity's vague direction to the best of his ability. Eventually, the blade directed him to Silverymoon, and it was on the journey there that was he was ambushed in the middle of the night by unseen attackers, knocked unconscious, and dragged into the Underdark...
D&D/PbP Experience: 2 years DnD. ~ A year of PbP.
Timezone/Availability: U.S. CST. Typically available during the evenings starting at about 5PM up to midnight or so. Weekends are variable, but usually late at night.

Backstory: Qin'jor has died 6 times in the Underdark. His Queen's Raven kept guiding him there, but he was not sure what he was meant to find, or witness. It could be a memory, an artifact, or a tragedy not yet unfolded.
His mentor Austar trained him on how to keep out of the sight and mind of his targets, how to strike from the shadows, and how to take things that were not meant for taking. When he was ready, the Raven led him to the Prime Material Plane, to the city of Baldur's Gate. There Qin'jor made contact with the criminal world and took up a few jobs to ensure he had resources for when the Raven called again. When it did, it led him with dream-like familiarity to the Underdark.
He finds himself caged with a dreadful sense of deja-vu which he takes to mean that he had wasted away in such a cage in one or more of his past lives. The Drow seem to be adept at finding him skulking about their domain, or maybe the time for him to fulfill his duty here has not yet come. In any case, Qin'jor feared disappointing the Raven Queen. Maybe he could use these other unfortunate prisoners to escape.
D&D/PbP Experience: Just over 1 year of 5e pbp, lots of campaigns started but none made it into high levels. I've not played Out of the Abyss, I only know the intro scene from another recruitment thread

Backstory: Miles has lived a secluded life among his kin deep in the wood. Unusually blessed among his tribe, he is strong and fast, and quickly grew to be a powerful warrior. Applying his skills to both hunting and gathering, he became one of the tribe's most far-ranging members as he mapped all the surrounding area. Then came the fateful day when Miles investigated a shallow cave...that got deeper...and was suddenly filled with dark shapes and strange smells. He woke up in pitch darkness with no equipment and unable to see, only able to vaguely sense the weight of stone above his head that indicated he was a great depth underground. Will he ever make it to the surface? He does not know, but he will not give up hope.
