A long few more hours of wandering through the seemingly endless swamp brings you up on a forested edge, no more rats or crocodiles accost you, and you manage to avoid any more quicksand or fire spurts.

Son's not sure where to go from here, but he gets the rat dressed out, and gathers kindling for a fire, absentmindedly snapping his fingers and setting it alight!
Mark accepts some of the rat, only somewhat surprised at the sudden creation of the fire at this point. He glances around, trying to determine if this area is defendable should they stay here overnight, and if he can use any of the natural materials around him to make any sort of shelter.

Mark's not too sure about whether or not it would be a good place to shelter, but there are some plants with large leaves that may help to shed any rain.
Talon plays for the group before taking to the skies, and though visibility isn't great, does make out a bluff in the distance that may have some sort of other civilization, he caught a glint of light on something, glass or metal perhaps? It's far enough away that it would be a tomorrow visit if they decide to go. ((Used your passive Perception.))

Talon describes what he sees to the group and suggests they start in that direction and find a place to rest for the night.
After a long day of trials, after other long days of trials, you somewhat surprisingly are not attacked by anything, don't stumble into any hazards, or see anything weird. That in itself is a bit unnerving. The sun is starting to get low in the sky, and it would probably be good to look for somewhere to rest for the night.

Blue, with a bit of help, spots a bit of a break in the treeline. Exploring further, you find a large, hollow tree has fallen, taking out a few others, before shattering on the ground. The trunk is partially split (think instead of a hollow cylinder "O", part has cracked off, leaving a hollow "C"). The hollow trunk would have enough space to house the party, and there aren't any signs that anything large is residing in it.

Son squints and looks at the log again.
Perception:6
Huh, that log has nostrils.

Blue nods vigorously.

"Great, solid ground! How about a break and some cooked rat?"
"Considering everything else, that sounds appetizing."
Mark takes a deep breath and looks around. He peers up at the sky to try and get an idea of what time of day it is.
"Anyone have any idea which direction we came from, or where we're heading from here?"

He then goes about preparing the rat for cooking for everyone. Hunger is the best spice!
